Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

It would take some rejigging if I went back to work ft at the moment, with DS3 still in primary for another 12 months, and DH about to go office-bound (eeeeek!), although still not absolutely certain yet if it'll be office hours or on some sort of shift.

Might be singing a different tune this time next year...

ClaudiaSchiffer · 15/10/2008 03:29

Right gotta be quick as about to go TO THE HAIRDRESSERS for the first time in about a year I have 6 inch grey roots before my highlights start. Yum.

Bootcamping going great - I am loving it! I am thoroughly moisturised and have been bumping up the walking. Today I pushed the kids (3 yrs and 1yr) in pram into local village and back through park - took about 2 hrs with a stop in a cafe on the way - where I had organic celery/apple/carrot juice (bleurgh - celery = devils food) bloody good for me though . Am hoping to follow Arfishys example and start juicing. I have lost 4lbs but have notoriously unreliable scales so not convince about this. Stomach is still sticking out - I has never gone back to normal since dd2. Will I have to do sit ups (horrors)?

All this work talk makes me a bit envious, I am a SAHM and am so bored. Also we could do with some extra cash so I really should look for some high paid, part time, rewarding and fun work - does it exist? Oh it would have to be flexible too. Too much to ask???

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 15/10/2008 07:19

URgh

UGH
am ill AGAIN fro the 457th time this winter (well it's spring now - was 24 degrees yesterday! - but you know what I mean)

aching limbs - so bad I couldn't sleep - headache, sore throat, totally knackered, dizzy - FFS I only just got over a horrible cough last week. DS ill with unspecified something or other aas well as new-toddler-itis - there have been some v.impressive temper tantrums. Today they both had them while we were doing an emergency shopping trip, DS round the supermarket, DD in the car park. A nice lady gave me a chocolate becasue she said I was 'so patient'. Hmm. Onlyu in public do I do patient. Now neither of the buggers will go to sleep, just when I NEED an evening to rest

on the upside, had first scan since I got to NZ (had large tumour and ovary removed a few years back) and all clear which is always nice

Bootcamping - hmmmm. no alcohol, other than that, pretty useless really. Today, cannot eat. Have had 2 muffins and that's all I can face really

Am v.short of work - am v.part time musician and haven't got much til the end of the year, and next year not sorted out yet. I hate not having anything lined up

sorry to hear of panic attacks - very scary.

and sorry about v.irritating day Norks - snarl indeed

and sympathy on the useless DHs, on the other hand, am glad I am not alone. Mine is always leaving doors unlocked/open, keys in the lock etc. as well as losing/breaking credit cards, keys, headphones etc. Good thing he's so nice and pretty really

ClaudiaSchiffer · 15/10/2008 08:16

Gosh poor you CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack, illness' sound horrid, particularly if children are ill too. Can your family pitch in and take them off your hands for a while so you can rest?

Here is a slightly bonkers recipe for a juice that is supposed to be marvelous darling for colds/flu etc . . .

1 lemon peeled
1 grapefruit peeled
1 clove garlic or 1-inch slice red onion
1/2 inch slice ginger root
2 apples with red skin
1 handful mixed fresh herbs
Add 1 cup hot water and 1 Tbsp honey

Bung the lot in a juicer and drink. Well done on the positive results from your scan, are you relieved? Had you been worrying about it?

I have just bought The Juice Fast Bible, it looks totally insane but splendid iyswim.

MrsJC, you know what you need don't you? Some reflexology

First day of new contract today. New boss laid back and allows plenty of home work, trip not too awful and juice bar nearby, so all good.

I miss DD but feel strangely useful. I was getting very bored at home.

Great news about the juicing ClaudiaS - I'm going hard core on Monday, so lets see how well we do!

I hope you manage to work out the contract/life dilemma WWW. I think for now I'm definitely going to take more time off in between and during contracts but also save more. When I stopped working I realised very quickly how much money I had been wasting before.

Duchess, you sound like you've had a nightmare few days. Grrr indeed. Hope things get better.

Cammelia · 15/10/2008 12:18

As dh was at a business dinner last night and dd was at school swimming gala, I started off healthily with some fish lightly cooked in olive oil, served with lettuce dressed in balsamic vinegar

It then all degenerated rather rapidly as I tried one of the delicious handmade belgian chocs (work leaving present) and then ate most of them (it was a small box)

I'm going to do some low impact aerobics later and then loads of ironing as a punishment

WideWebWitch · 15/10/2008 15:32

Hello all

stayed up til midnight talking to dh last night, so am knackered but it was most pleasurable.

Sooooo
bacon sandwich
chorizo
cheese
spinach salad, tuna, anchovices etc

water
no exercise

have been told 95% I've got the job. FFs! I can't consider it a deal until it's 100% though.

I got the contract so I get to take half term off and we get our cash cushion

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 15/10/2008 21:46

hello hello hello

my dh has left cash hanging out of the cash machine. Taken his card and just left the cash there . We are ALL totally head in the clouds .

Sorry to hear about all the panic and anxiety and health worries. Is no fun, especially at this time of the year.

And as for all of you considering full time work, I shall say one thing (which will no doubt be backed up by Marina) ARE YOU MAD? DON'T DO IT! I am knackered. Properly knackered. Finding it hard trying to fit everything in, feeling like I outsource my children, grumpy, teary, fed up with trains/tubes/suicides/leaves on the line blah blah blah. Just don't go there. Office life is ok but I'm starting to feel like it's my whole life as I'm there so much!

Dh working Christmas too but has the week off between Christmas and New Year so that's good.

I have a few days leave left to take so may do so in half term. I need a break!

Hope everyone feeling better soon.

foxinsocks · 15/10/2008 21:48

ooh that post sounded VERY grumpy. I am actually not that grumpy. I had a bad day yesterday but a bit of a better one today. Onwards and upwards!

VersdeSociete · 15/10/2008 21:51

I am completely out of touch and living on chocolate but will catch up eventually and rejoin you all properly!

Cammelia · 15/10/2008 22:00

Go WWW

foxinsocks · 15/10/2008 22:03

well done www

VersdeSociete · 15/10/2008 22:05

Well done, www (you can see how far I've got reading back through thread)...

TheDuchessOfCorpseBride · 15/10/2008 22:05

Well done www, may as well get paid whilst everyone else gets the boot. You said this business would be doing well in current economic climate, so is it insolvency, repossesions, debt collecting or loan sharking?!

Short but fast dog walk this morning. DD1 and DD2 home again today but both fit for school/pre-school tomorrow. DD1 is 7 tomorrow, having Archie in the house is a stark reminder on how much she's grown up already. I find that a bit sad so can you imagine what a state I'll be in when she hits 18?!

I've eaten lots and lots of raw carrots, cheese & poppy seed crackers, apple, fish pie and sweetcorn. And a bowl of Ben & Jerrys Fossil Fuel icecream which is heavenly.

Must finish wrapping birthday presents...

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 15/10/2008 23:07

congrats WWW!
feeling a bit better today here
still not great though and taking it very easy

hmm, business that does well in current economic climatE - booze?

Hi everyone, sorry not to have posted for a few days. Thank you everyone for your sympathy about panic attack - it was very horrible, but as you say, recognising that that's what it was really helps. I will also try camomile tea!

batters - sorry to hear you are suffering too, and L&S. Really hope things are a bit better for you both. xxx

www - congrats on the job. Really good news, and you can really enjoy half term now, with the security of the contract. Excellent news!

ureb - about the posters, but it is good that you are now being treated/monitored so it WON'T be like the posters for you. x

Issy - good luck with the surgery. Definitely enjoy the rest! lol at slipper-camp.

Eemie - how annoying - if he does it again you should 'stage' a burglary and take all HIS stuff and hide it - all the stuff he'd REALLY mind losing.

DofNB - glad you're feeling better

Sorry anyone I've missed off here. And thanks again for the sympathy.

tortoiseshellWasMusicaYearsAgo · 16/10/2008 08:50

ps, marina thank you for your 'rational response' comment - I did wonder if I was going mad, so that made me feel better x

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/10/2008 08:59

Arf @ slipper-camp and at grumpy FIS.

Congrats www.

Glad you're feeling a bit brighter MrsJC.

Issy - I am uncomfortably interested in your nasal surgery. GP thinks my nose bleeds may be a polyp thing andmay refer me if this spray thingy doesn't help. Hope it goes well for you.

Bootcamp? Hmm well.....I've flexitolled for the first time in a fortnight and in the economic circumstances am trying out the Aldi face cream - no SPF though www. I don't pass muster do I?

LoveAndSqualor · 16/10/2008 09:55

Hey all,

Oy vey. We are officially the House of Cold. I'm sick, DS is sick - in fact, he started wheezing last night and I was gearing up for a trip to a&e - thankfully in the end the splendid nhs direct nurse said to keep him at home and under a close eye and take him to the gp instead - which is what I'll be doing at 12.05pm. He's much better this morning, actually, poor little mite. In fact he was fine last night (other than the wheezing) - more entertained at being up and about at 11pm than anything else.

To add insult to injury, I have a great big spot beside my nose. It is horrendous. Need to look out the paper bag until it subsides. I can actually feel it festering away as I type.

Bootcamp otherwise more or less on hold until the illness passes (though last night's chicken soup was both cold-friendly and bootcamptastic). Now have to spend the morning sorting out john lewis delivery people and storage for the stuff that I'm not leaving with DP (ex-DP, as I must start calling him) or taking to my sister's. Joy unconfined .

Issy, erk and to surgery, really hope all goes well (inc close-mouthed sneezing!).

And WWW FAB news on job. Well done you. Cash-cushion no bad thing these days, I feel. Hay/sun/etc.

unknownrebelbang · 16/10/2008 09:56

oh well done WWW!

Can I just say....unelasticated trouser waists? hmm?

More later, rushing off to my pt very flexible hours job - should be there in about erm 3 minutes (and it's at least 10 mins in the car, oops).

Prufrock · 16/10/2008 09:59

Well done www. Enjoy half term

Issy - having recently undergone surgery here are my top tips.

Eat plenty of prunes etc before your op - GA can screw up your digestive system so it's good to have it working perfectly in advance to lessen the effects.
Book into your hairdressers now for a few wash and blow drys afterwards. Presumably you won't be able to fully shower for a while because the dressings can't get wet and it's very easy to underestimate the grump inducing effect of having dirty hair.
Accept that even though it's a minor op in physical terms, the GA is still a major shock to your system and you will need lots of rest. I was fine most of the time, but some days I would just collapse from tiredness after lunch. Go to bed and watch mindless rom-coms.
