Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

speaking og Icedsave, has anyone heard this Herts council have £17 mill in Icesave

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 08/10/2008 21:57

hmmm
though I might be able to do it for the sake of millions

OK today's goal is to drink 2 litres of water and NOT pig out.
I have 3 stone to lose (have lost 2 from what I was before I was pregnant with DS - which was horrendously too much). I have stalled. I NEED to lose more. Summer is nearly here and I would like to not feel like the elephant at the party.

Marina · 08/10/2008 21:59

Hello pussy
Hello all
Have ausweis from Slimming World until after half term which gives me time to put my emotional house in order
Went to see secondary school today for ds and liked what we saw, a lot (that includes a Mner's fab ds1 who gave us a cheery if startled wave from the Physics lab!)
Total bummer re poor ds' ear, www - thank goodness he can retake later. Hope he feels better soon.
Am LOLing in a slightly shocked way at Corporate Wife concept in this day and age. I could be Corporate Dworkinista Ballbreaker I suppose
Anyway, back to life, back to reality. Apart from trotting round and round the biggest school I have ever seen not much walking but healthy lunch and plenty of water.
Let's hope RL picks up for us all soon, am thinking of L&S and the move, arfy and the crash diet, Torty and the meeting, www and the Ear of Postponed Agony, Foo up in the Huff Tree, snaf running for the hills, ureb feeling crook...I think we ought to rename this thread the WWW Respite Unit for Poor Old Hard Done-by Fat Ladies

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 08/10/2008 22:01

oh don't Iota
my ILs - who want to move to NZ, have FINALLY got their visas, but cannot sell their house & can't afford to come without selling it - have just informed us that a lot of their savings are with Icesave. In addition, FIL lost his job last week - no warning, company went bust, he didn't know until he couldn't get into the computer system from home and his phone didn't work - had to phone up and find out he was jobless. He is early 60s so getting a new job isn't going to be easy.

it is bloody depressing and rather incomprehensible that this can be happening

IotasCat · 08/10/2008 22:03

oh dear corpsebride, that is truly horrible.

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 08/10/2008 22:04

oh they shuold get their money back but still - nightmare

hello Marina

Marina · 08/10/2008 22:07

Oh bloody hell MrsJC, that's a terrible run of luck, I am so sorry
Our favourite hairy gonk still very much in evidence btw

Prufrock · 08/10/2008 22:07

I do sometimes get to put tossers in their place though - I had put up with one patronising git all through the starter until he started trying to explain to me what a money market fund was -and was getting it wrong. I let him spout on, then told him (pleasantly, but in front of 2 junior colleagues) exactly which bit's he'd got wrong, where upon dh said "Oh yes, I forgot to mention pru used to work at big US asset managers and set up their MM funds" He did have the grace to apologise.

arfishy · 08/10/2008 22:40

Ooh pru how satisfying. I love doing that. I have a superb eyebrow twitch I bring out for special occasions such as those.

MrsJC - how awful for your in-laws. It's really terrible what's happening.

I'm not surprised at all by the corporate wife thing [embittered at corporate life]. I used to work for a company who honestly believed their employees would put their babies into corporate logo-ed babygrows and offered a tie-pin for 50 years service. 50 years!! It was agony just doing 2.

WWW that book looks good. I think I'll get it. I would recommend the other one to you as well, it looks like it would complement your one well. Re your 2 hour test - funnily enough I was talking to a bank last week about a role. They also wanted a two hour test plus psychometrics for a contractor. The job was pulled after the big stock market hoo-ha though.

Iota - I am bootcamping

I'd better go. I have a conference call interview in an hour and shouldn't really be here.

IotasCat · 08/10/2008 22:45

I'm only here for the gossip so don't point that carrot at me, arfy.

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 08/10/2008 22:54

oh marina - yuk re gonk. Have been thinking a lot about home things as have got back in touch with a v.old friend via Facebook and feeling cross about MY territory being invaded all over again. very bad for my head - I need to do more

Prufrock - how fabulous

NOt sure what the ILs are going to do - they are still in shock and do have a history of histrionics and drama so who knows? we think they should get themselves over here and just start again, and at least be near grandchildren etc. and we can help them out (and FIL was actually offered a job over here). They are not particularly sensible though so I'm not holding my breath.

I was totally lured in my the chat BTW...

unknownrebelbang · 08/10/2008 23:44

Ooh, what a busy thread! Hello everyone.

WB Pru. at corporate wifey. Although had I been married to DH when he joined up, I, as potential copper's wife, would have had all my shenanigans raked over. Not quite the same I realise [wink}.

Much sympathy www. Had problems a couple of years back with DF and my wicked darlink stepmama. Again not the same, but harrowing, and I really didn't have the emotional energy to deal with it. Hope the counselling helps. Poor DS, hope he's feeling better really soon. And good luck in getting the job you want.

Know how you feel about DD and the maths Marina. It's hardgoing with DS2 and his literacy, and impossible not to fret.

Fingers crossed for MsSaggars, and grrr at DS1. How was the trip?

LS, hope DS was more settled today.

Your poor inlaws, MrsJC.

Hope you're feeling better TS, and well done DS.

How's boyblu?

Good luck with the house, Eemie.

The juicing sounds enthralling Arfishy.

Good luck with IPD Foo, and get back into it, www. A mum at school has discovered it and is a convert.

I understand Moonshine (squirrels). We thought it was a bit erm strange tbh, maybe naive is the word I'm looking for...

There is a lot to be said for my safe little job, where I can pretty much do what I like, hours/lunch/clothes/swearing/sarky comment-wise, as long as the work gets done. Don't get me wrong I'm over-worked and under-paid (of course) but locally it's a good number, and very secure (one of the few perks of the CJS). No little ambition has its place occasionally. Now, if staff issues could just be sorted....

Am also debating whether to swap from being part of the open-plan front office, or whether to swap to my own private office. decisions, decisions...

unknownrebelbang · 08/10/2008 23:55

Little I didn't already know tbh saggars, although it was great catching up and having a giggle about the situation (I'd done the outrage at work, hehe). I hadn't realised but the governor quoted in the paper is also governor at our primary. I note the Chair of Govs has been remarkably reticent about the whole matter - maybe because he was off to Marbella with t'rest of 'em! Still beggars belief, all things considered.

Healthwise, had an appt with the nurse yesterday. I've lost over 10 lb in five weeks, so that's good (lots of comments this last week or so). BP still raised, so may need further intervention, although it is coming down slowly. Definitely need a chill pill, to go alongside the monitor the nurse has loaned me (and it is slightly lower at home too).

Bootcamp generally ok, except for bedtime .

Oh, and a slight preen. Went to look around the secondary last night with DS3 and during the Head's speech, he commented on all the usual things including sporting achievements, and - without naming them - made reference to DS1/2's "international success" . He made it sound far grander than it was, but it was still a proud moment.

unknownrebelbang · 09/10/2008 00:05

(the boys - and the school - do much more than just sport, but it bemuses/amuses me because I am sooooo unsporty, and always was).

ClaudiaSchiffer · 09/10/2008 03:51

Hello may I join in? I too am emerging from a southern hemisphere winter only to find that I am somewhat larger and lazier than I would like.

On the pluses I have just taken the dog + 3 yr old + 1 yr old in HEAVY pram for a big walk. But on the minus side today I have mainly eaten liquorish. So not totally brilliant. I am furiously swigging water in the hope that it flushes out the liquorish before it sticks. A friend has today asked me to join her in training for a 100K walk in a years time. Has anyone ever done such a thing? Is it possible without actually dying? Apparently they walk for 24 hours - YES 24 hours with no break. Surely ones feet fall off well before 24 hrs is up?

Am impressed with Arfishy's juicing. Must get mine off the shelf and dust it down.

Am hoping that a few weeks bootcamping will get me looking foxy (HA!) for the upcoming summer. I usually loathe hot weather as never seem to have any clothes to wear. I'm much better at dressing for a British winter. Australian summers are not good for me.

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 09/10/2008 09:10

Blardy hell - I've been gone a day and there's all this catching up to do

Back later....

Pru, I would like to add my goggle (here it is: ) to the others expressed above, and my warmest congratulations at your dealing with the tosser (particular admiration for the 'letting him spout on' bit ).

Further to Marina's suggested thread title. I endorse it.

ClaudiaSchiffer, welcome! I did a 100k walk once. It took me five days. And my feet still fell off at the end (almost literally, in fact; two of my toenails turned black and dropped off ). It's possible - possible - that I didn't do any enough training. A year sound about the right amount of time to warm up to it

All a bit grim chez L&S at the moment. DS has a terrible cold - he's totally blocked up, which means neither of us is getting much sleep. And have the move-to-sister's looming (a month from now) which is just hugely daunting and scary and also . Hmmm. Www, v wise words about chucking stuff out; I'm about to begin that today. Also have my wonderful dad coming down in just over a week, and he's going to help me move my dozens of boxes of books personal effects into storage (leaving big bits of furniture here), so that will get things going. Now just need to start packing ...

Bootcamping is going ok, however. Lots of walking in the blissful weather. Plenty of water. Too much booze yesterday however (went for a drink with a friend - three glasses of wine! I am such a lightweight now), and by heck I paid for it at 3am this morning when DS was wailing. Dearly want to collapse on the sofa tonight, but have friend-in-the-middle-of-housemoving-nightmare coming over to weep on me, so I think alas it will be wine again ...

Cammelia · 09/10/2008 14:23

Found out something today that proves the world is going through a seismic shift.

My big brother has given up being International Corporate Man to retrain as a...............Maths teacher

At the age of 54

I don't think he knows anything about children as he was never there during his 3's childhoods or his 2 marriages

Apparently he worked out he's been in 56 different countries doing business over the last 30 years and wants to completely change his life

WideWebWitch · 09/10/2008 14:33

Well that's a good thread title for next week!

Hello, will write more later but today

3 sausages
salami
cambozola
smoked salmon mousse with prawns and smoked salmon on top
lots of water

am knackered due to drinking wine last night and going to bed too late, oops

Looks like this job are suddenly saying they haven't got enough budget ( why WASTE MY TIME THEN?) Grrr. Never mind, Nov and Dec off is looking likely again

Hello all, oldies and newbies - can I second Saggar's blardy hell about so much to catch up on in so little time - more gossip than bootcamping eh (hides cakes).

WWW - I can't keep up with your job opportunities - it looks like you get a reasonable amount of things for which you are suited so I say hold out for the one that gives you the best life balance (easily said I know when sitting comfortably on the outside).

TS - did all go well for Mr TS?

Corpse Bride - sounds horrendous for your ILs - poor things.

Arfishy - your diet atm is mind boggling - how long are you doing it so strictly?

Marina - hope you are feeling a little better. You can run but you can't hide eh (didn't realise that slimming club leaders seek out those who go AWOL )?

Snaf - come back and confess!

100k walk - am I reading that right [faints]?

I finally made it to the gym after a week and felt it badly. But my ILs are here this weekend so there will be a vat of booze drunk and several tonnes of food to be cooked and consumed. And there's nothing else for it but to make my renowned tirimisu (they think it is an old family recipe but it's actually from the hallowed pages of an ancient Good Housekeeping recipe book).

And I am experimenting with yet more supplements as I have realised that my acne was not just pre-period but all the blardy time (I am middle-aged fgs, how is this happening?). I shall report back, but results are already quite good (tentatively said).

And I seem to be loving brackets today ()...

ClaudiaSchiffer · 09/10/2008 21:58

Morning/evening all.

Today I feel fab, woke at 6 with a clear head and staggered into the shower and SCRUBBED myself with exfoliator. Now feel about 2 lbs lighter and so clean! (Yuk, sorry that makes it sound as if I haven't washed for weeks - but you know what I mean about using exfoliator for the first time in months?! Please say yes).

Must try to resist the sweeties today and focus on FRUIT and water.

Mrs JC so sorry to hear about your ILs. It is a very worrying time. I have a friend in the UK who sold her house last year - pocketed the balance (over 100K) and rented a house in Norwich for a year. Now she has found somewhere they want to buy but all cash is tied up in blardy IceSave. V worrying.

Moonshine, I too have middle-aged acne. Had a bad crop a few weeks ago which seems to have passed but if you find anything that works do let me know. The only thing that has really worked for me was Anti-Biotics, or the Pill. So would be interested in a more natural solutions. Am hoping that all this healthy living is the answer .

eemie · 09/10/2008 22:58

Thanks for messages Foxy and ureb. Feel very guilty losing sleep over house sale when people have much worse problems.

You have to laugh at our timing, though. We put house on market in May, the very worst time to do so in the last 30 years.

Now it now looks as though we might sell the house (at a painfully low price, but still). But at the very worst time in the last 30 years to put money in a bank.

Aargh.

Said to dh this morning 'what's today's grotesquely scary headline in the Guardian?' He said 'I think it's something like 'MELTDOWN'.

So we had a look. It was 'STARING INTO THE ABYSS' . So encouraging for potential buyers.

Puppy much better though . Sister and two boys coming for w/e to help us settle in . Dd ran in cross-country for the new school today and did very well . Sun shone. Feeling better. Bootcamping well (for me) .

Happy camping all. Friday tomorrow

Oh God, have just weighed myself and realised that I have put on A STONE in the past 8 wks. FFS just HOW did that happen. I wore my jeans today that used to look foxy, now I look like I have been shoehorned into them. I am and more than a little disgusted with myself. There were extenuating circumstances but even so, A STONE how revolting.

Right I am now DETERMINED, I will lose a stone before my folks come and visit in 5 weeks.

Anyway, enough.

eemie good luck with the house sale and Issy how depressing it all is at the moment as you say, hard to keep away from the booze and chocolate. Hope today is better for you. I agree, let's get Gordy on this thread. Although he may really depress us.
