Hello everyone, old and new.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

bundle · 17/10/2008 10:44

weeeellll

I did get a bag of Twirls

(for the children, you understand)

I must do a blooming blanky square too, have been alternating between my current cardi and a spot of spinning (which so far I'm rubbish at)

eemie · 17/10/2008 10:51

Just calling in to greet everyone and say I've read thread quickly and sorry to hear that so many are sick/nursing sick kids/worried and stressed. Slipper camp (arf) seems good idea till the going gets easier.

Dd had great birthday 'the best in my whole life' - glad your dd did too, Duchess. She had six friends for tea and the noise was enough to make your ears bleed so I think they were enjoying themselves. Will have to apologise to new neighbours up to several streets away - may put ad in local paper.

Managed to get refusenik cat to vet for injections today (after undignified episode in kitchen trying to put her in crate). Nearly burst into tears when vet told me I should be brushing her teeth every day. With her and the dog and dd, when does he think I'd ever get to work? Felt better when he said less than 1% of cat owners achieve it.

Couple of quiet days now, thank goodness. And choir has started again, so luscious Poulenc and Whitacre going round in my head.

COngrats on job, www

WideWebWitch · 17/10/2008 11:02

WHO tfkingF has the time to brush THE CAT'S teeth every day? I barely remember to remind my children to do theirs! Don't worry agout it eemie, def just don't do it, really, life's too short, the 99% are RIGHT!

Bundle, glad you've confessed too, this is indeed slipper camp for the weary and worried

Good Morning everyone

Sending get-better vibes to all the unwell dc's

And good wishes to BoyBlu

Horrid about your finger Blu, hope it gets sorted soon

Marina, know what you mean about new computer systems, we had one just before I gave in my notice and I thought "Thank goodness I'm not going to have to get to grips with it" Everyone was still struggling big-time when I left this week - it was definitely not an improvement. When will the geeks realise that a computer can't do a job, only the people using it

I will spending much of half-term revising helping dd revise, interspersed with trips out - one of them to see Francis Bacon exhibition.

bundle · 17/10/2008 11:44

thunk @ cats teeth

www happy to fess up anytime

Cammelia · 17/10/2008 11:51

Bundle, your esteemed name has been mentioned on another thread re possibly being interviewed for Costa Rica trip.

Is there something you want to share with us, other than drinking cava and eating chocolate

IotasCat · 17/10/2008 12:22

oh god am ROFL at brushing the cat's teeth

I would suggest that the vet lead by example -I'd like to see him try it with Iota's Cat

bundle · 17/10/2008 12:23

ah yes, they did phone me but rather went off me when I fessed I was a member of the meeja

Cammelia · 17/10/2008 12:27

You should have gone undercover Bundle

bundle · 17/10/2008 12:29

snigger
undercover and decaff

LoveAndSqualor · 17/10/2008 16:26

goodness - so sorry to hear so many of the dc are sickening (no pun intended) (no, really).

and eemie, no one - no one! - brushes their cats' teeth! surely?! am rofling for all I'm worth on this side of the computer screen.

Slippercamp with a vengeance over here. DS and I are both Still Ill and I am bored of it now. Just about to walk round the park for a little fresh air as we are festering somewhat. And then going to collapse on the sofa and knit (am doing a rather nice scarf, in lovely brown wool, which has the virtue of being both snuggly and vair' vair' easy - about all I'm good for at the moment).

And tonight, by god, there will be wine.

Glad you're okay Issy, be prepared to take it easy for a while and read the paper from cover to cover every day.

Hope BoyBlu progressing equally well.

Took dd to Covent Garden today to look at the market, buy a birthday dress and watch the acrobats (staff study day at her school).

Brilliant day until I discovered purse had been stolen from bag - presumably when I put bag on the floor for a moment in Monsoon.

Fortunately purse had no money in it but it did have dh's other watch (the one that wasn't stolen in the burglary) which I was taking to be repaired for him.

Fraid I took shine off dd's day a bit with some sighing and crying. She quickly dug in her bag and offered me £10 from her birthday money. Have since got a grip on myself.

Covent garden police said I have to report it to local station but they, er, close at six on a Friday. Told you it was nice and quiet round here.

Dd did get lovely dress though, she looks gorgeous in it

foxinsocks · 18/10/2008 09:24

ooh eemie, next time you're there you must tell me. Office right round the corner from cov gdn. Sorry to hear about your purse . They are v v quick of hand in cov gdn unfortunately. Let me know if you need someone to nip into the police station there.

and I hope issy and blu and blu boy feel better soon and everyone else with illnesses. There's a vile fluey coughing bug doing the rounds in the office grrr.

that's interesting about the counselling www. I keep booking some and then not turning up too. Perhaps we'll have to vow to do it and just get on with it. Am v v lazy about these sort of things and feel it's just something else that will be hard work iykwim when work is hard enough on its own!

WideWebWitch · 18/10/2008 10:10

Oh poor you eemie, how horrible, your dd sounds very sweet and kind.

FIS, I think atm it's just one more thing to fit in and I can't do it. Will have to organise it for when I've got more time. (so that'll be never then).

Issy, glad to hear you're back and glad the surgeon was pleased.

L&S, sorry you're both still ill, what a pain.

I am at ex dh's, having gone out with very lovely dodgy woman last night. So yesterday:

sausages
bacon sandwich
crab
tiger prawns, tomatoes, ciabatta with olive oil and balsamic vinegar
chicken karai
naan
chana masala
lots of Muscadet

and this morning, 2 bacon sandwiches and full fat Coke.

eemie · 18/10/2008 14:15

The thing about counselling is you have to do it when you don't have time for it.

When you start to feel the benefit, the time magically makes itself; the journey there and back is suddenly no problem, the 101 things that stopped you going are less vital all of a sudden.

That's how it was for me, anyway, when I had psychotherapy (twice).

Thanks for offer foxinsocks.

More cheery today - had two good walks and a swim

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/10/2008 01:18

Hello hello hola

Sorry to hear about general sickness'. Grim. Also how blardy annoying to have your purse nicked eemie, but your daughter sounds lovely.

I have been a paragon of virtue these last few days. I have been body brushing, moisturising, exfoliating, putting on sun cream and even doing some exercise - mostly walking but also some stomach crunches.

It is easier here tho, Spring is here, yesterday was 35 degrees, so is easy to be out and about in fresh air - or lounging by my friends pool - Do you all hate me yet? Sorry.

But really, I feel great. So much better than a week ago, I have been following a juice plan and it has really put some zip in my step.

CorpseBrideOfJohnCusack · 19/10/2008 08:35

35 degrees!
not nearly as hot here, but still spring, and I have been attacking the garden - it looks miles better and it's good exercise.

have lost a couple of pounds which is a step in the right direction. Decided I would hae some wine tonight but only purchased a minibottle so I wouldn't be tempted by an open bottle in the fridge - v.proud of myself

glad op went well Issy
sorry about purse Eemie!
wd Claudia

sorry for ill peeps. I am still ropey but not too bad, DH has been sick for over a week with a horrible cold and my dad has what he describes as 'the worst cold he's ever had'. He looks dreadful TBH, he is 77 next month and not exactly in roaring health. We're all a bit worried about him

the in laws' tale of woe continues. the money they thought they'd got out of Icesave actually wasn't and so is all inaccessible for now and FIL is owed salary etc. by his company. and he had just bought a new car (for some infathomable reason) when the company imploded so is stuck with paying for that
