Agree with @Calliopespa. Let's see the black shoes you have. They might work, particularly as you only see a peep of the toe.

Yes, do that when you get back OP.

You are going to look lovely, of that I am certain.

The black shoes may not be the thing we'd have reached for to style it with for a Vogue shoot, but they are not going to stand out or ruin it, and it isn't as though we haven't all had a decent trawl around for the perfect thing.

What you don't want to do is spend more money on shoes that then detract from the outfit, and I do worry a little that very bright gold might, depending, make the wrong statement - because they ARE a statement, and it either goes off brilliantly or doesn't! When I was thinking of metallics, I was really thinking a darker, bronze type effect that goes under the radar a little more. But that was before we had the very lovely jewellery, which I agree you should wear.

The dress, jumpsuit, jewellery and jacket, if that stays, are sensible, sound choices you can reuse again and again, in combination with each other, and in other combinations. They have cost you, but are money soundly spent. I don't feel so confident that is the case for any of the shoes.

ihaveafavouritecat · 24/10/2026 20:55

Thanks everyone. I think I’ve given more thought to clothes and fashion in the last three or four weeks, than I have in the preceding thirty years, (since having children and gaining weight). That’s probably been pretty evident to you S+B gurus. The shoe and bag search has nearly broken me though! 🤦🏼‍♀️

so:
Final review at home in coming days of a few shoes under consideration:
Gabor - recommended by one but universally disliked by most it seems, as wrong colour, wrong heel, outdated, etc. You’re probably right. I wasn’t unaware of the potential colour difference, but thought I’d check them out. My feet are quite a way from my ears after all, and I had heard the phrase ‘too much matchy matchy’ not being desirable etc As I said, the most recent combination didn’t really feel matchy enough for my comfort.
Jones - again recommended by one of you, and I’m doubtful, but thought I’d give a try.
River Island -recommended by one and I quite liked, so thought I’ll try, but they’re cheap and plastic so that doesn’t fill me with hope.
M+S - khaki ones recommended by one of you, to try with jumpsuit, but I’m not optimistic, as they have a kitten heel and I think I need more height for jumpsuit.

Failing all of these, then I’m almost past caring, and may just rebel and buy gold boots for jumpsuit, and Victoriana lace up boots, for the dress… and you’ll all be horrified and exasperated by my reckless insanity and poor taste.

Who knows how this will end?! 😵‍💫

Just get a pair of heeled ankle boots from a brand you like and trust then. I think suede would probably be better than leather with the jumpsuit, but otherwise I don’t think it matters that much. Then just get a toning but not entirely matching bag.

Oh… @Nylonflaresthose Kurt Geiger ones look nice! Where did you see these at that price please?

On a site called Secret sales. I haven’t used them, but googled to see they weren’t a scam

Nylonflares · 25/10/2026 09:35

I’ve just looked and they are also on Shoeaholics. Which I have used! A lot 😳

Ruthietuthie · 25/10/2026 13:43

Despite my general "anti-boots" sentiment, I could actually see the Kurt Geiger boots working if there wasn't an awkward gap between boot and hem of dress. I like the heel, the toe, and the dull but patterned gold.

Yes, I quite like the simplicity of these, but I wouldn’t spend £100+ on shoes from Vinted. …You know this, from the ones you longed for me to buy, so you could enjoy them vicariously!

No, I didn't expect you to - it's more that shoes like this, which cost quite a bit new & are only worn once, can languish on Vinted for quite a while if the seller wants as high a re-sale price as possible.

So it's always worth offering a price around what you would consider paying for them. The seller might need the money right now, they may be fed up & want to make room in their wardrobe etc - it's always worth a try?

I don’t think I will really. All this thought in advance, is hopefully getting me to a place where I can just put on my outfit, and not have to think about it. Remember that came through on my wish list/what I know list, way back when I did that exercise that was recommended to me? I want an outfit I can put on and not have to think about. I’m confident that will happen. Then I can focus on my lovely DS’s big day 🥰 … and probably be all tearful and choked up, and possibly a bit drunk. Mascara discussions to follow! 🤣

I meant that you probably would be thinking about them if you felt they weren't the right choice & you were "making do"!!

Max Factor Aqualash, btw ...

Sorry @ihaveafavouritecat I hope you didn’t think I was being rude about option paralysis - it’s just I started out on this thread three weeks ago thinking gold shoes and bag and I’ve changed my mind several times, felt overwhelmed by the choices, so goodness knows how you feel! I’ll link the satin Mango shoes now, been at the hairdressers since 12:30 and feel I’ve missed so much 😂

I've been away at a 60th birthday party in Cumbria at the weekend - I'll have to spend the morning playing catch-up to see what's happened (in terms of multiplicity of suggestions/changes of mind/forcefulness of opinions!!!).

Btw @ihaveafavouritecat - a woman at the party was wearing a jumpsuit with gold ankle boots & she looked rather fab ... Mind you, this was a ceilidh in a village hall, not a wedding!! (Didn't stop me from choosing to overdress anyway, just because I wanted to 😁!!)

EleanorMc67 · Yesterday 03:39

Ruthietuthie · 23/10/2026 23:02

Apologies, @ihaveafavouritecat, I should have read the full thread before jumping in with my support of those particular shoes.
The Air and Grace ones do have the advantages of a) an elegant heel, b) balanced by a securing fastening, so you feel balanced despite not having a thick heel c) an ankle strap that doesn't chop the leg, making candles, d) the right color of gold, e) an elegant pointed toe.
I have tried them and they are REALLY comfortable. Could I not tempt you? They would work for both outfits and you could wear them afterwards for many nice events.
If I am spending money, it is going to be on shoes, just because the feel of toes in a sweaty, plastic shoe is awful to me, even if I am not wearing them for long. And I've realized, through much error, that buying inexpensive shoes is always a false economy. (I regularly bought mid-range ballet flats, for example, and wore through them in less than a season. I then bought Chanel ballet flats and they still look lovely five years on. The original prize was an absolute shocker, but I am saving money at this point). Badly fitting shoes show on your face. On the wedding day, you want to put the shoes (and the whole outfit) on and forget about it.

I really don't think you need a necklace, given the lovely jewelry you have already bought, particularly not such a pricey one.

@EleanorMc67, I did vanish for a little, as I think my comments were too blunt (humor doesn't always convey online) but I am SO invested I just can't help myself.

No, humour doesn't translate on here well, does it? Especially of the drier & more sardonic variety ... in real life, my right eyebrow springing up is always a give-away, plus tone & delivery.

However, I'm always worried about sounding deadly serious & self-important on here - hence the overuse of ellipses & exclamation marks to the extent where I probably sound like a very excitable puppy 😬

MumzSuki · 24/10/2026 08:01

I’ve looked at some of the shoes suggested here and agree with @Ruthietuthie; I’ve seen those Air & Grace sandals mentioned before and think it’s worth paying extra for comfortable shoes.
Have you thought about changing shoes at night? I change into trainers once the dancing starts. Sounds a bit strange but the guests in their 20’s do the same thing! ( the last few weddings I’ve been to have had ceilidhs).
For this wedding I’ve ordered a pair of ballroom dancing shoes which will hopefully be super comfortable.

I have the flat version in black & gold - in fact I wore them on Saturday night. They're very comfortable. But I think the OP dislikes the T-bar, which is a pity as I think they'd work well with both dress & jumpsuit, & are clearly leather not synthetic.

EleanorMc67 · Yesterday 03:55

Ruthietuthie · 24/10/2026 17:35

The shoes are not nice, unfortunately. The shape is dated (the blocky heel, the cross-cut strap, the toe shape) and the undertone of the gold is wrong. You don't want to match exactly, but the colors need to go together, the undertones need to work. With this jewelry and these shoes, it would just look as if they were oddly mis-matched. If you look at the line-up of photographs, it is so clearly the odd man out. You can see it doesn't work from the photographs alone.
The bag could really work. I like it. It is interesting, but in a muted way which wouldn't grab attention from the beautiful dress. I suppose my only concern is does it look interestingly muted or really worn-out and slightly grubby, which you could only tell in person. Would you use it again, though? Seems a waste to buy things to only wear once. What did you think of the Me&Em bag suggestions?
I would wear the jewelry, as you love it - I like its boldness and organic look.

Edited

I'm relieved someone else thought that - I agree. I find them terribly sensible-looking - which is ok if they're purely for dancing in & you don't mind spending that much on them (though I'd just bring suitable flats instead!).

But I'm afraid that my first thought was "Oh no - from Dries Van Noten to Gabor?!!!" - which makes me sound like a fashion snob & I really don't think I am! But to me the DVN shoes - or a couple of other pairs I've spotted/suggested - are everything that the Gabor ones are not ... to me they look more dated than retro (although I'm aware it can be a fine line).

You are the voice of reason. Love this post.

I really, really (REALLY) hate kitten heels!

Some of them (the ones that really do look like a little misshapen curved claw) aren't nice. But a lot of what's being called a kitten heel isn't quite - there are lots of variants out there that are much more elegant-looking, stable to wear & comfy as well.

Yes, I don't like a few inches of a gap between ankle boots & dress hem - ankle boots wouldn't work with the dress, though they would with the jumpsuit.

However, although I like the shape & the duller tone of those boots, I really don't like that gold buckle (that looks like a padlock?) at the top. It makes them look cheaper than the actual cost.

Charlenedickens · Yesterday 06:40

ah just seen this thread I was under a different name on the last one, no reason for the change other than I randomly do it 😂

anyway I was the poster who also has bought the jumpsuit,

I have tried every variation of shoe and beleive black suede goes the best, I did tack mine up an inch and have let it down again , and will need to wear a low heel with it. I didn’t cut the material and it was too lumpy if that’s the right word and they sort of swung about, it wasn’t right, even my husband was a bit like hmm, so I took it down again and tried a low heel.

i have a pair of black suede quite delicate ankle boots I will wear with it over Xmas and new year and if I was wearing sandals ir shoes I’d also go for black suede.

the material is very dark in some lights and I think gold is too much of a contrast, Focus will be on the shoes, me + em style it with black suede shoes and I think they’ve got it right.like me they probably tried every variation for styling and settled on black suede as the best,

for jackets to casual it down I’ve a fitted black leather jacket from Reiss, which works very well, the fitted jacket balances the billowy legs, so if going for a jacket I’d pick something neat to the hip and fitted,

at new years I will need a coat, as I will be outside, and I’ve two, one cream thicker from reiss to the kneee and one black and low calf length, an older lk Bennet one, and it will be the black, again the cream is just too high contrast. The silhouette is wrong, the black one is closely fitting, long and narrow,

ive far too many clothes and I’ve tried it with everything, from tan shoes to dark brown jacket and for some reason black, a colour I seldom wear, works the best.

i think it’s because as much as it is clearly a dark green colour and can shimmer lighter green in parts, it also shows as very dark almost black In others,

so I’d recommend a pair of elegant low heel black suede shoes, and a black fitted jacket, to the hip bones, to balance the billowy wide legs out. Let the jumpsuit do the talking,

anything else I think will give the wrong shape , look awkward and be too high contrast,

Nylonflares · Yesterday 07:41

I like a gap between an ankle boot and a dress, personally, cool look

Although way back in the previous thread, I asked @ihaveafavouritecat where she usually buys her shoes and the brands she said were of the very, very sensible kind. This suggests to me that she’d be uncomfortable in fashion brands (low or high end) and that a more sensible style, even if not cutting edge or making a statement, might actually make her feet much happier on the day. It’s a decision she’ll have to make, but it’s easy to get caught up in the excitement of the chase, as it were, and forget about more practical issues. I’ve been there!

At risk of sounding like a broken record though, I remain on team black suede!

I had no idea Air and Grace do a flat version! Thanks for this; I’ve just ordered them; have been looking for shoes to change into at night that I can dance in.
I’m going to have to return my Gabor shoes; they’re universally disliked. I focus a lot on shoes but not footwear; I now feel pretty clueless!

Tbh I think everyone thought that, but I've given up. There have been a lot of decent stylish shoes suggested that meet OP's brief, but she doesn't like them for whatever reason. And then the ones she likes are Gabor, or stiletto heeled boots from KG that are absolutely not what I'd choose if I had previously broken my ankle and was worried about falling... She's now considering Esska too despite rejecting them on thread 1, and I feel we've gone in circles.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · Yesterday 12:13

I think we’re going in circles because OP naturally gravitates to sensible but is also being caught up in the thrill of everything. At the end of the day, it’s just a pair of shoes or boots and she just needs to decide what her biggest priorities are with them. The broken ankle thing is yet another reason why personally I’d probably favour a sensible option- and I agree that spindly heels shiny boots are not a sensible option!
