Agreed, this thread has been a little wild....who knew Seasalt could inspire such fiery passion! I really liked the sound of your outfits, by the way. I'm a similar age to you, and also very nostalgic for 90s indie style! Also a doc lover.

I also very much like (whispers) the odd Seasalt gem. I've lost weight recently, and didn't bother seeking out exact replacements for almost any of my bigger clothes. The only three things I found a like-for-like replacement for on Vinted, were 3 Seasalt items. A pair of cords, a indigo denim jumpsuit, and a beautifully cut midi skirt, quite plain. I even admit to owning one of those jersey, patterned midi dresses that have been guilty of inspiring the dreaded 'F' word! Mine is black with a slightly melancholy autumnal sparse floral pattern that reminds me of Disturbia patterns. I wear it with a wide fitted belt and boots. Happy to be embracing the F-core with that one, if that's how it's seen!

I think that actually sounds nice. I think they really do need belts though dont they because they are so loose round the waist - am I right? Thats my main issue with them. I need things fitted on the boobs, waist and hips, otherwise I look bigger than I am. I do think its not just the style but also the cut that doesnt work for my body type. I have chunky arms and legs, but a small waist so I want/need to show it off otherwise Im on a one way ticket to 'f' town. But I can see if people want to hide the tum, and show off lovely legs and arms (envy), then I can see the shapes would work better.

Thanks for the nice comments about my clothes, which was timely. Im just heading out shortly and I have actually just been staring at my clothes feeling a bit daft and that maybe I do look ridiculous and dated and yuck. Think this thread has knocked me a bit, and I actually thought I was feeling quite confident lately. Now I feel like a massive twat who looks like Suzie Quatrro.

This thread got a bit crazy but essentially, regardless of fashion, true style is about wearing what makes you feel fabulous and the most like you. If you're wearing something you feel great in, whether that's an f-core patterned frock or a leather jacket, that's what matters. And the confidence that comes from that is what we all want, isn't it?

@seanconneryseyebrow Well, come alive, come alive down at Devil Gate Drive! (iirc) 😀

You haven't brushed your hair in 50 years? Impressive. I have mad curly hair so I get that we need to avoid as much as poss. But I have to at the start of the day (with wetting down) otherwise I look like Gene Wilder. Are you just finger brushing/raking? That just never works for me. Sorry Im just really curious.

Yes I just rake through it with my fingers and generally mess it up after washing and also every morning. I realised early on that brushing just dragged out all the curl - it's a strong wave rather than fiercely curly - and also left it frizzy. I don't comb it either although my hairdresser does after he's washed it so it sees a comb every 6-8 weeks.

We've had our own run-in on this thread but I'm sorry to hear it's knocked your confidence and I hope you're back to your old self again soon. Suzie Quatro is very cool in my opinion.

This is what I dislike about S&B. Well, MN generally. Trying to make women feel shit about their appearence. And - god forbid! - old. Personally, I'm grateful to be old. Neither my mum or MIL got to be 60.

My DH and no doubt a million men his age wouldn't mind more Suzie Quatrro in the world.

@CinderellaParker All I want is to look like me which tends to be part pottery teacher, part land girl, part gardener chic.

An excellent look. Frances Tophill is my poster girl.

Youngbutsuccessfulmum · 23/10/2026 19:55

I find the quality really good. I have a lot of their dresses, jumpers and have had coats in the past.

I find the sizes to be extremely generous and usually need to size down. I usually wear a belt as they all seem to be so loose fitting in the waist. Coats tend to be true to size if you want to wear chunky layers underneath.

I also find everything really long. Both in terms of the cut and dresses coming a long way down and most dresses are midi length. I wish their dresses had a bit more shape to them. I also wish they had shorter dresses/skirts. I prefer above the knee

At least the tops aren't ridiculously short!

No, I loved the sound of your outfits. If I saw you in real life I'd definitely do a subtle but happy double take, as I always do when I see people whose style I like. I think the negative comments were only huffy snipes to get back at you for the Seasalt criticism! But anyway we all have different tastes, and that's a good thing.

Yes, the jersey dresses can be a bit loose at the waist. They are quite fitted at the top half down to the waist seam, but the seam always seems too high for me (I'm tall) and kind of empire line. So a big wide belt pulls it all in, then it just flows subtly over the hips. The jersey dresses are probably the items that inspire the most criticism, but it's definitely possible to make them work. And I do love an old fashioned cottage-core type look, with modern twists here and there.

i agree. There’s a lot of ageism here. I am 46 but I have a lot of health issues so whatever I wear needs to be comfortable. I’m not looking to wear the same things now that I was when I was 20/30 etc. People change and what they want changes too. Thats okay.

Seasalt really come into their own with the accessories. I fell in love with this fairisle beret.
