I've tweaked my relationship with Seasalt a bit over the years. Before I lost a chunk of weight I loved their tunics with leggings, as I've got slimmer I've gone more for tops, shirts and trousers along with their plain linen dresses in summer, but I don't go much for most of their prints. Their cord pinafore dresses are great for autumn/winter. I live in their denim shorts in the summer. I have a selection of their cardigans which do pill, but I wash them on a wool wash and they've been fine. I do find the clothes wear really well and my Plant Hunter coat is now 8 years old, wearing at the cuffs now but still great for dog walking in the sort of weather we have coming up over the weekend. Their borg is very soft and warm. Their thick tights last for years. I don't know if this is a factor, but I don't dye my hair and I don't wear any makeup so I find their colour palette actually works very well for me, and I get masses of compliments on outfits - even from young people... (shocker).

They change the designs really regularly and often have 20% offers - there's one on knits and borg at the moment, and it was coats recently, and their rewards scheme is worth signing up to. I don't think I ever pay full price - I always wait until I am offered a discount or get stuff in the sales.

One thing to note, returns used to be free but as of September they now charge which is irritating if your nearest shop is a lengthy car drive away.

Edited to add I find tops true to size, it's the trousers and skirts I now have problems with as they come up too big on my waist.

StylishAndBeautiful · 22/10/2026 16:38

@FlossieKirkpatrick ,the t-shirts are fairly loose fitting but true to size. The next size up will be noticeably bigger so I wouldn't size up or down.

The quality is decent. They're IMO 'smart casual' clothes.

The raincoats are good.

AMarkAMissionABrandAScar · 22/10/2026 16:56

I'm wearing a Sailor striped top now. True to size and good for a bigger bust. Arms are the perfect length on me. Wait for a sale though - it's not that different to a Tu top and twice the price.

Because young people are ....YOUNG. and usually very thin. Of course young slim girls can wear big baggy clothes and look awesome and not 'frumpy and dumpy' because of youth! Pretty obvious really.

When you are older, even when thin, you have to be more careful not to wear things that age you. Or not if you don't care. But denying frumpy is even a thing is daft. Im in my 50s. If I wore a Seasalt baggy floral dress, wellies and barbour/quilted jacket Im going to look 10 years older than when I wear my levis, docs/cons, and a polo neck. Just a fact. Doesnt mean it matters but its a reality.

"How do you do, fellow kids. Now, look at me, bet you can't guess how old i am. Go on, guess guess!"

That's what you sound like going on about wearing docs and converse trying to be cool.

Leopardprintbikini · 22/10/2026 17:07

seanconneryseyebrow · 22/10/2026 14:47

Huh? Where did I say all 70 year olds looks the same and like the same clothes? My mum is 75 and looks amazing and dresses v. funky in my opinion. Not a Seasalt item in sight.

Ffs.

Seasalt and other brands and items ARE aging. If people dont care about that then dont worry.
FWIW I fully embrace the mad, eccentric, art teacher vibe myself. Its a look I do well. :)
Unclench and wear your baggy dresses and wellies if you want. I couldn't give a fig.

Hahaha that look is soooooo dated. It makes women look trapped in their past Desperately trying to recapture their youth. Much like the "Scandinavian architect" look that no one is quite sure what it is.

And you dare have a go at people owning a couple of pieces from Seasalt.

I bet you wear Gudrun Sjödren.

Haha... I have no idea who that is.

But Im fine with you thinking that. Fashion/style is in the eye of the beholder hey.

Not many young people are "very thin".

Your outfit sounds quite ordinary and middle-aged.

Fashion/style is in the eye of the beholder hey. Style might be but fashion isn't.

I love their colours and prints!

Dexter1973 · 22/10/2026 17:17

Blimey! Style & Beauty is so angry these days! If your not fighting about Seasalt then you're fighting about whether skinny jeans can be worn!🤪🤣

Yeah im so 'down with the kids'.

It was a bit cringe the other day when me and my 20 year old niece turned up for a dinner in almost identical outfits.

With docs/cons - I do think they are cool, and I think redeem almost any shit outfit, but also I really think its laziness/lack of inspiration. I just simply dont know what else to wear on my feet and havent forever basically. I did venture into adidas gazelles but have now gone off them. Im autistic and collect things - so i have a massive collection of docs and cons (and gazelles but they are gathering dust). But I come unstuck when they are inappropriate (eg fancy work meeting, funeral, wedding) I simply dont know what to wear. When I walk in heels I look like 'babs cabs'.

Ive never asked anyone what age I look ever. Dont really want the answer thanks! Id rather live in blissful ignorance.

But you seem to have me pegged so clever you.

BotoxOrPuffins · 22/10/2026 17:19

Love their quality and use of natural materials. They wash well too. Love Seasalt, highly recommend!

I never said it was anything but ordinary and middle-aged. I AM middle-aged. I just dont want to look any older than I am.

Blueandgreencoloursflashing · 22/10/2026 17:24

The clothes themselves are aging

Clothes can't be aging anymore than they can make you look younger. It's fine not to like the cut, fabric, pattern but I look good in some of their clothes. Just like I look good in clothes from other stores.

You sound really insecure.

Baldrapunzel · 22/10/2026 16:02

So what should women 50-70 be wearing to avoid appearing frumpy and older?

I think Doc/Cons were suggested upthread 😂for the cool 50 year old

RampantIvy · 22/10/2026 17:29

Today I have on high waisted red tartan barrel leg trousers and a cropped jumper from disturbia and buckle docs. I think I look awesome

All other outfits barely get a notice. lol.

I don't blame him. The outfit you have described doesn't sound very attractive or stylish.

Loobylu66 · 22/10/2026 17:29

I wear a lot of Seasalt plain stuff, I do not like most of their prints though. Started off last year a size 22/24 and now an 8/10 so have purchased a fair few of their plain wool coats since last winter which are generous in size only to have to put them on Ebay a few months later as dropped another size.
I like their plain linen tunics and dresses and their plain cotton jumpers but for most things you need to size down.

AMarkAMissionABrandAScar · 22/10/2026 17:29

Amusingly I'm wearing platform Docs with my Seasalt top. I wasn't aware I was straddling two different fashion identities.

Some of the prints are a bit twee. A bit like when Joules put massive roses on all their Bretons.

OsfameronTanamoril · 22/10/2026 17:30

I was thinking that I have yet to find an alternative for my Seasalt Larissa shirt for travel in warm and humid countries. I don't think it's particularly stylish and it's probably geography teacher, but it's pure cotton, rolls up in a ball, doesn't need to be ironed, doesn't show stains, doesn't show cleavage, and can be tossed in the wash.

OMG you've gone at me over and over for being rude and you've just said that! Oh the irony. 😂

Maybe they look like that on you.

The few Seasalt clothes I have don't make me look like an old, frumpy geography teacher. I steer clear of the heavily patterned designs and I am tall and slim and the cut and length seem to suit my shape.

What’s up with the teacherism? We don’t like the negative stereotypes thank you. We’re wonderful people and on the cutting edge of fashion.

FillerTrackOnTheAlbumOfLife · 22/10/2026 17:53

I bought a dress from Seasalt. The sizing came up extremely big, I would size down at least one if not two sizes. It didn't wash very well despite instructions being followed which would put me off buying there again.

Baldrapunzel · 22/10/2026 17:54

I'd have looked ridiculous in ditzy flower prints at my most beautiful 18 year old self (all downhill from there). I have a dear friend who rocks a pair of Lucy and Yak dungarees but she's an androgynous, ageless beauty. I'm a 6 footer with ginormous boobs so they're not going to work for me.

Can't wear docs, even though I've been covetting a pair of cherry red ones for decades and can't do converse because my awful, painful, misshapen feet need a raised instep.

So, I wear seasalt cord skirts with thick tights, or one of the artist smock style tops with leggings or jeans and fill the glorious pockets with conkers and sweeties, probably looking every single one of my frumpy 60 years.

I apologise. It was just a response to the rude remarks. I fully supoort all teachers. They have a very difficult job.
