Mother of the Groom dress dilema

I was on here previously asking about a dress. I need a dress for next June and want to get it now, firstly so there is less chance of anyone else having it and also to spread costs. I have found this one. https://raishma.co.uk/products/estella-dress?currency=GBP&country=GB&variant=55411753746808&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Google%20Shopping&stkn=a85857762863&tw_source=google&tw_adid=&tw_campaign=23714931497&tw_kwdid=&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23715027827&gbraid=0AAAAADbSZ1Be8hZNwmp_4zTZLlrlbtj2T&gclid=Cj0KCQjw7eXTBhDBARIsAKF-w45vJ5gQwJL3KZZ-ep8q8G9Uk2BK3Z0pc-fAEmDTYeiqDkGvMGZ1IBcaAgavEALw_wcB It is a dark cerise colour with orange through it even though it looks red in the picture and it looks good on. Is it mother of the groom though? I don't want a stuffy dress but I do want to look as if I have made an effort.

Estella Dress

A statement printed maxi dress in crinkle chiffon with soft feminine design. Great for brunch, occasions and romantic moments.

There are no rules, and it is obvious you won't go for anything outrageous, so wear what you feel fabulous in, as long as it is not indecent.

Barney16 · 13/08/2026 06:41

I would wait until nearer the time then go on a massive shopping spree. Trying on in the shop is so much easier because you will know the minute you put it on whether it's you or not you.

Where I am (north of UK) a red dress signified that you had slept with the groommh So obviously inappropriate for MOG. But perhaps that was just put about because red draws the eye in photos.

That really is nonsense.

Love the cerise pink dress. I actually like all your choices. I would buy whatever is your favourite. None of them will date in a year as they are all classic styles. Have a great day

My reply was to op as she had said she thought they wouldn’t work on her figure.

@eatreadsleeprepeat - sorry, what I meant was I didn't understand the OP's response to my suggestion as these dresses are designed specifically for hour glass shapes, and not neccesarily a younger audience.

It’s a nice dress. The model wearing it is 5’9” and a size 8 so able to carry off the flounces quite well. If you like it has to be your choice.

What about this sort of style (if you can find it in the right colour)? I always think for a wedding you want something that you like but alo that is no effort to wear for hours and hours (because you will be!). So a bit of shoulder coverage in case of sun, no difficult straps that are going to dig in or move around etc. You want to feel relaxed and comfortable and not have to think about your clothes. Plus it's easier to look more relaxed in the photos.

I actually really like this. The 14 is out of stock. However, everyone is telling me I shouldn't wear blue or a maxi. Confused.com.....

This dress is V neck, with sleeves, midi length, well under budget and all one colour. There are lots of different colours to choose from if you don’t like this one.

Sorry, I don't like this at all. The length and shape look frumpy to me.

It is actually a deep cerise colour when you see it in real life.

This one caught my eye as well. No frills but is it too patterned?

Ask your DiL to be if there are any colours she would prefer you to avoid then find something you like and buy it. You can't please everyone online because you will have the you can wear literally any colour other than white, oh and any pale colour that might look white or whitish in photos, and red or green or black or any dark colour that might look black and now we have or blue. The pattern phobes will insist you must wear a block colour, the modern minimalists will say it has to be an over size shapeless sack, the traditionalists will say it has to be something my granny would have worn in the 80s and so on and so forth. Wear what you like and feel good in and enjoy the day.

The dress you posted originally is great, perfectly suitable. Honestly OP I’d back away from MN for advice here because much of it is not good, massively overthought and negative, some of the comments and ideas are baffling 🤣

I think this would be perfectly suitable. Like it

I hate MOB/MOG outfits with a passion. They look so stiff and uncomfortable. The nicest one I’ve ever seen for a summer wedding was a very simple olive coloured silk top and matching skirt with dark gold accessories and simple jewelry. The MOB was tanned with blond hair and the overall effect was chic, effortless, and expensive looking.
