Is this outfit too baggy and shapeless? No special occasion, just heading out to meet someone for coffee and a browse in a garden centre but have some time before I leave and interested in opinions.
I’ve lost weight recently and so am a bit aimless about clothes just now

When I had to change my whole wardrobe I sold all my old clothes which funded a big splurge on Vinted for the new wardrobe. Is that something that might work for you?

I'm sorry, it's been a long week at work where I have been on my best behaviour in the face of AI 'help' desks and AI Tech 'Support'.

The top looks like it's perfect to go with jeans that shade and the jeans definitely fit you better than the jacket.

I’d wear the jacket with dark wash jeans or ecru jeans rather than mid wash

I’m very late to this thread.. I’ve only just seen it, so can’t resist saying how beautiful the floaty top was in the first photo. I want one! You have great proportions for clothes, you look good in everything and your white jeans and latest jacket look too big for you, as you obviously know! Also your home is gorgeous! Interesting to see your various outfits, and congrats on the weight loss, great achievement.

Yes @Gruach you totally get my style.
I am short though (hence the constantly rolled up trousers!) and have a big bust so I’m nervous that even though these are the exact style that I love, that style may not actually suit me.
I also absolutely hate the concept of rules for age, height etc though so am genuinely open to ideas once it’s something I like. I will not be persuaded into something I don’t like even if it is what would suit my age, height, shape etc if you follow me

This jacket has a bit of structure which gives shape. Good length for wearing with jeans and jumpers.

The jeans are ok (nothing more. You could walk the dog in them, say). That jacket? HORRENDOUS. Please throw it away now. It is far too big, yes, but it also looks like the kind of shell-suit jacket I longed for as a pre-teen in the 1980s. Hell no.

I th8nk if you have a big bust avoid round necklines, I’m fairly well endowed and prefer v neck type tops. For work I wear shirt dresses with a belt as I have a good waist. I’m also short and will spend money on having trousers taken up, even dresses/skirts to make the hem line more flattering.

@Twodogsonthecouch can I just say that you are
being both very brave and a good sport to subject your outfits to scrutiny on here!

And also (sorry) that last jacket is hideous 😆😆. The basic shape is ok but it’s way too big and the fabric and pattern are shockers

Hope you manage to get some valuable advice from this thread. I would just say that you need to wear more fitted things, otherwise you risk looking like a rectangle and avoid shoes that “cut off” your feet from your ankles as this has the visual effect of shortening your legs

I did suddenly ‘get’ your preferred style! And it’s adjacent to mine. I’m a similar age to you, not quite 5’3, hovering between sizes 10 and 12 - and I shop from probably half the places on the beloved ‘If Monty Don were a woman’ thread; everything’s oversized, voluminous, crunchy, bankrupting …

Awkward question - has it been your preferred style because at some level, you wanted to cover up/have looser clothing at your previous weight?

If that's the case, perhaps you're realising it isn't quite right now and that's why you are finding things that feel safe but aren't looking how you imagined.

I don’t think so… I hate conforming to perceived expectations, always have.
I have a life that could be that. Professional career, boarding school educated, married, 4 adult children and I fight against norms in other areas of my life. So I am completely allergic to what would have been “appropriate” when I was younger. I’m 60 now. So no to fitted dresses, tailored clothes, suits etc even though I can see other people in them and recognise they are very well dressed and equally recognise that the clothes I like may not actually suit me

I too had a clothes-mad friend, who is still alive but has disappeared from our lives. Your mention of coat linings reminded me of her beautiful 1950s velvet leopard-print coat which, when she bought it, had a really tattered lining. She replaced it with an emerald-green silk-satin lining (or rather, had an excellent dressmaker do it!). I so coveted that coat ...

I do miss our chats, & vintage shopping together. Though I currently have a fashion designer client who used to head up a famous Italian fashion house ... & is full of interesting stories - not always about the clothes 😁!!!

Op, now that you've explained what you like and also what you dislike, I'm beginning to wonder if the main thing you need is a bit more faith in your own taste. Not everyone on this board will like it but so what? You clearly have a lot of innate flair, I mean, look at your house!

Clogs are the very bastard to wear! I have a couple of gorgeous pairs, & I can barely get out of the house in them - let alone run for the bus!

I have to agree with you on the jacket. It made me think of Terry from Minder - it's the kind of oversized blouson-style jacket he would have worn on holiday. I can smell the Old Spice ...!!

Sorry @Twodogsonthecouch - I think you're regressing sartorially in this one! I don't mind the sandals, or the jeans (they just look deliberately slightly oversized to me, & although I'd prefer the dark denim & deep turn-up look mentioned by Gruach, the rolled hems fit ok with a casual look). Don't really have an opinion on the white top as I can't really see what it's like - apart from the fact that the collar of the shirt & collar of the jacket do not look good together, at all ... Maybe the jacket could be carried off by someone taller, but I personally don't like it & it drowns you - sorry!
