Does this outfit work?

Is this outfit too baggy and shapeless? No special occasion, just heading out to meet someone for coffee and a browse in a garden centre but have some time before I leave and interested in opinions.
I’ve lost weight recently and so am a bit aimless about clothes just now

Don't take offence here, but some of the pics of your current clothes make you look 'butch'. The oversized jackets do you no favours, the chunky sandals. The photo of you in jeans, white top and the white 'spotty' jacket in your study (or whatever room it is) is an example. The jacket is awful- sorry. You need to wear clothes that FIT better, are simple and show off your shape. If you want an extra layer over a shirt or T shirt, think of tank tops, cardigans that can be worn with two buttons fastened to nip in your waist.

For some ideas have a look at Marks and Spencer, Boden and Hobbs. (I feel you may think Hobbs is too staid and corporate but it's worth looking at.)

By way of cheering myself up …

Top is lovely and flatters your body shape and colouring. Trousers are too baggy and scruffy; fine if you’re my teenage daughter but not otherwise. I’m a fan of chunky trainers but not with this top.

Saying that I’m currently wearing some baggy khaki cargos and will happily go out later in these.

I think the point is that the op herself has indicated a liking for voluminous Monty Don styles so the persistent attempts to get her into more fitted clothes seem a bit futile.

I wonder op, if what you need to do is go for increased volume? I think at the moment it does look as if you're wearing clothes that are a bit too big as opposed to intentionally voluminous and maybe the problem is that you don't look like you mean it?

A poster upthread mentioned Uniqlo and all the talk about jackets, has reminded me of a bomber jacket from the Uniqlo C range last year that I really liked and that, from memory, had tabs allowing you to adjust the volume. They're not selling it any more but I bet there will be some on Vinted / Ebay. (I might go and check myself as I've regretted not buying it.) And the current spring/summer C range still has some culottes that aren't a million miles away from those Toast ones linked upthread - they're just a bit toned down. They're in a heavy cotton, too heavy for the recent heatwave but good for autumn. Sorry I can't link but my laptop is very glitchy today.

Or you could go straight to Plumo etc but Uniqlo's a bit more budget friendly for experimenting.

I was very frustrated with @MotherHenPeck earlier in the thread but I really appreciate that she stuck around and has tried to see where I’m coming from even when I’m being obtuse 🤯🙏.
I really really like what you’re posting @Gruach and think that you do “get” what I’m trying to achieve.
I think I need to embrace the fact that I pretty much need a whole new wardrobe and realistically that will involve high street brands but I’m excited to get a couple of more individual pieces as investments and build on these.

@Gruach You're coming over as very aggressive. This is style and beauty. There is no need to be rude, swear and generally try to belittle posters whose ideas don't conform to your own. That's bullying, not suggesting other styles. No one else is bullying.

I think androgynous is probably better but I think the point is around gender stereotypes in clothes which might be seen as a bit restrictive

For what it’s worth I always thought style and beauty should be a fairly benign space too until
years ago I wrote a post about, of all things, Ugg boots for my preteen daughters and was told in no uncertain terms that they had no style if they would consider wearing them ( remember, preteen children 🤯) so I discovered early on that people have very strong opinions on certain things and that if I want to participate in the conversation I need to try not to get easily offended and to be assertive when I really feel strongly about it.
Without wishing to get sucked into a row, and I assume you didn’t mean to be antagonistic, I did find a few of your posts where I felt you challenged my truthfulness and were quite dismissive of what I was saying quite galling but got over it and appreciated your subsequent input

You look great but I think darker jeans and a less sporty trainer would look better.
White loose jeans are a hard look to wear, they probably would look better rolled down with a wedge and a shorter boxier top perhaps with less balloon sleeve? (See blue one below)

Would you consider a tan trainer with mid blue jeans in a straighter style? Love your blouse and bag.

The stylist Melissa Murrell is good to watch on You Tube - she talks about proportions with examples in various body sizes and it does make a difference.

I think you’re trying to be several different things at the same time and therefore it’s not quite gelling. You clearly like a slightly bohemian vibe but you also seem to be drawn to what I see as really bland as well (ie the shorts outfit). For this reason, I’d suggest maybe going one of these two ways in outfits:

boho ish midi dress - easier than separates because you don’t need to worry about what ‘goes’ with it until it’s jacket weather

plain, well fitting base such as a black dress; jeans and a plain top; culottes as Flo suggests with a plain top - and then a slightly boho but well fitting blouse or jacket over.

And stay away from full on beige outfits which suit nobody imvho.

If you like those Toast wide leg culottes linked above, Muji had several similar but cheaper. They were LOVELY, but I did not like the way they looked on me (but I have v short legs and look much better in a barrel, to my surprise). I second the recommendation for Uniqlo too. Also, I think @SargeMimpson 's AI is much funnier than mine - "it looks line items randomly assembled" (ouch!).
