Does this outfit work?

Is this outfit too baggy and shapeless? No special occasion, just heading out to meet someone for coffee and a browse in a garden centre but have some time before I leave and interested in opinions.
I’ve lost weight recently and so am a bit aimless about clothes just now

I think the trousers spoil it. They are bunched up from the waist to the legs which isn't flattering. They just aren't a good fit / cut. The legs are too wide to work well with the top. The top is lovely but busy so the trouser legs would look better if they narrower. If you were going somewhere for lunch or similar I think sandal would be better, but just strolling around or a garden centre, trainers are fine.

chocoluv · 06/08/2026 20:06

I’m half your age and think you look great.

It’s a shame the trousers aren’t shorter and you had to roll them up.

Sandals would work well but I’d rather wear trainers if I was walking around all day.

BurntBroccoli · 06/08/2026 20:33

I like the top but not the jeans. You need something more streamlined and definitely not rolled up at the bottom. Maybe bootcut would work better?

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · 06/08/2026 21:07

Love the top on you but not the trousers. I’d wear dark denim. I don’t think baggy trousers look a good fit too big.

pastadish · 06/08/2026 21:18

Individually the clothes are fine , well except the trousers they are too long if the were shorter the might hang better , however together as an outfit it doesn’t go. You are not mumsy or frumpy in the slightest but your outfit is veering that way.
The top is too flowy and flowery, the trousers have been discussed, the trainers don’t go with the trousers and the bag is too dark for the light coloured clothes
A few tweaks and you’ll look stylish like, find a different top a bit more fitted, roll the trousers up a bit shorter and make the fold wider it’s very big looking at the bottom because the fold is too small. Change the trainers to something less chunky so not running trainers but like sambas and try a different bag

SisterTeatime · 06/08/2026 21:31

There’s too much fabric, but the bigger issue is that you’re covered from head to toe and there’s no structure. You don’t necessarily need slimmer trousers but you need to show a bit of ankle, foot, possibly forearm.

I think that top would be fab with the same colour jeans but a barrel shape. Personally I wouldn’t have put a small black handbag with that outfit. Trainers are fine, but dull.

Having said all that, you look nice!

Autumngirl5 · 06/08/2026 21:34

The top is lovely!

VoteForCountBinface · 06/08/2026 21:38

The trousers ruin an otherwise great outfit.

Moreholidaysthanjudithchalmers · 06/08/2026 21:43

I really like the top and think it suits your colouring. With the looser top i think you need a more fitted jean. Baggy and baggy doesn’t look right.

lmnabc · 06/08/2026 22:01

Love the blouse but I’d undo it at the neck. The trousers are fine but need shortening

Livelovelaughfuckoff · 06/08/2026 22:08

I’d bin the trousers they don’t do your lovely figure justice. Love the top and I actually really like the first bag just wouldn’t wear it cross body over that top. Also like your home decor style!

flippinnorastights · 06/08/2026 22:15

It’s lovely and the top is not grumpy. The bag works. I’d add a belt and yes, the jeans need shortening otherwise it’s great

RobertJohnsonsShoes · 06/08/2026 22:21

You look gorgeous

Thanks for all the feedback and advice ( and the compliments 🤭). I really appreciate it

Top is lovely. Original bag went better in terms of color.
Throw those trousers away. They do not do you justice. Replace with an olive color barrel jean which shows your ankles. Replace trainers with tan sandals.

Dilemma999 · 06/08/2026 22:34

Love the top - where is it from please?

Would look nice with capri trousers and dressier trainers.

I like the top and smaller bag but the trousers are too baggy. I usually go loose top fitted bottoms of vice versa. Also sandals would be nicer than trainers as the top has a summery vibe.

Twodogsonthecouch · 06/08/2026 22:54

@Dilemma999 it’s Farm Rio but I bought it in spring 2025 so I doubt it’s still on the website

Trousers are to baggy.

Pleasedontdoitagain · 07/08/2026 07:23

I'm quite reassured by this. Being short I always have a problem with the length of trousers and it's good to see other people also doing really messy and unsightly things in an effort to make them short enough to wear.

whatcouldbenext · 07/08/2026 07:39

Shorten and iron the trousers. The top is lovely although I think with baggy jeans a neater fitting top might look smarter. Likewise a smaller or longer bag.
which all sounds very critical but actually I think you look nice, and perfectly fine for meeting up for a coffee.

Gribouille · 07/08/2026 07:57

I think that's a really pretty top and it suits you. Same feelings as others about the trousers and shoes, though as a similar age to you, I also wear loads of trainers for the comfort! Not a disaster, just not making the best of you.

Well done on the weight loss! One thing I found when I lost weight was that we really have to rethink our clothes and have a big 'trying on' session in front of the mirror, and maybe buy a few wardrobe replacements - and that skimming, not too fitted, clothes really enhance the new shape.

I also hope you had a lovely day!

FudgeSundae · 07/08/2026 08:12

Prefacing this with I’m not a style guru and I spend no time on Style and Beauty… but this popped up on the page and I thought I’d come along to say I think you look lovely - I like the outfit and I’d admire it if I walked past you in the street.

Viperregency · 07/08/2026 08:27

I think it looks fine, and I’d not bat an eyelid.

if you want to improve it, then the trousers need taking up. They are far too long for you and the turn ups just emphasise that, they don’t look like a style choice, just my trousers are too long.

the trousers would look better with a more form fitting top and the top better with straight leg trousers,

my rule is go baggy in one place only, top or bottom, but not all over, unless it’s a slouchy jumper and wide leg trousers, or say a silk blouse and wide leg trousers.

so overall wouldn’t bat an eyelid, I may eye the turn ups if I spotted them out the corner of my eye and think you should take your trousers up not just roll them up, but no more,
