@Twodogsonthecouch - looking at both your first outfit and the one from today in particular, they look ‘utilitarian’ because there’s no visible variety in fabric. (Don’t know what actual fabric the first top is.)
Obviously you’ll gradually get used to wearing a different size, and not everyone wants tightly fitted clothes (I certainly don’t) but you can inject style by thinking about proportions and adding something more luxurious or light hearted to even the simplest outfit.
If for instance your jacket was a size smaller and hit you at the waist, you could wear a block colour silk or cashmere vest (weather dependent) that hangs just a couple of centimetres below the jacket. (And iron your shorts!)
Loafers would ‘upgrade’ the whole outfit (if you can wear them). Or fisherman sandals if you were wearing a skirt.
Going forward, if you’re shopping, consciously look for as many fabrics as you can find - cord, velvet, something translucent, mohair, suede, leather, tweed, cable knit - and mix them together. It will invariably look more upbeat and luxurious.
