@Doy - that is a bit rubbish. I haven't been to a swap event so I don't know if it's easy to try things on. Maybe you could let the admins know on the FB group as they do try to keep resellers out. Was it just two things from the swap, or everything else she's selling?

triggers34 · 18/07/2026 13:37

@DoyI've never been to a swap , but presumably she gave some equivalent value things that were hers ?
Two of my orders arrived , the stripe culottes 😂 will be going back!

I love the pull on indigo denim crop but the waist is a teeny bit snug . I broke a bone in my back 3 weeks ago and can’t bare any pressure there . I might try the bigger size , however if the sale culottes work I won’t need them . Sale culottes arriving Monday 🤞as better for my bank balance!

PrincessofWills · 18/07/2026 13:49

I was resolute I wouldn't buy anything, however those denim culottes . . .

IlovePond · 18/07/2026 14:27

I’ve just been to the archive/sample sale.

Apparently it was heaving yesterday and lots of stuff sold, but they were able to restock throughout the day.

There was still quite a bit left this morning when I arrived, but there is not much now and they are not restocking for tomorrow.

How long are the denim culottes on you both @MsDastardley @triggers34? They were ankle length on me which was one of the main reasons I ruled them out, but I do love them. They would look fab in winter with a neat fitting sweater. I am sure they are one of those pieces I am going to try multiple times before I have to finally accept they are not for me 😆

MsDastardley · 18/07/2026 15:02

@ScottishMouse they arrived this morning. I really like them and am keeping. I’m 5’6” but have quite short legs IMO and the graze ankle bone. They looked nice with my Fracap sandals, but I think would work with the monkey boots once it’s colder. I have lots of neat sweaters, long sleeved t-shirts etc that I can wear them with.

I’ve been thinking about your recent post about body image when I’ve been out and about the last couple of days. We are our own worst enemy. I’ve seen lots of women older/younger, bigger/smaller than me, wearing what they want, going about their business, and they all look fab. I wouldn’t normally pay too much attention but we’ve been talking about it.

ScottishMouse · 18/07/2026 15:23

You are of course so right @MsDastardley. Why do we do it to ourselves?
I would love to see the denim culottes on a real person rather than the Toast model. Ok, Jenny is a real person but she is model like to my eyes. If anyone wants to share a photo of themselves in them…

MsDastardley · 18/07/2026 15:57

@ScottishMouse I don’t have a full length mirror, otherwise I would! I would have to stand on the bed to get one 🤣. I know what you mean about the models. I am probably two sizes bigger than Jenny, and definitely no model. I occasionally order something though and I think it looks nicer on me, and same case with photos other people post on this thread post.

Buy the culottes! I think you would get loads of wear out of them.

triggers34 · 18/07/2026 16:13

@ScottishMousethey're at my ankles , I’m 5ft 2 . I’m going to have another go at styling them before I decide .

IlovePond · 18/07/2026 18:14

I’m wondering if all the money I spent today at the sample/archive sale in stuff I absolutely did NOT need, will make up for me returning all my sale orders! I will be upset if I am removed from Kindred next month.

OP posts:
MsDastardley · 18/07/2026 18:27

@IlovePond 🤞🏻did you get anything nice.

PrincessofWills · 18/07/2026 19:23

I so wanted to go but not feeling well . . . I really don't 'need' anything 😂

ScottishMouse · 18/07/2026 19:39

I absolutely would @MsDastardley, they are exactly my sort of thing. I have a pair of (non-Toast) very lightweight denim culottes that I wear all the time in spring/summer, and these would be a great aw alternative. But I just don’t think they suited me. Next time I’m in a store I will try them again again 😆

mizu · 18/07/2026 20:04

@IlovePond I went to the archive sale yesterday - and took my sister along with me. We had great fun. We were almost first in the queue and I thought the prices were a little more reasonable than usual.

I bought:

hand stitched organic velvet quilt in pomelo £90
striped king duvet cover £64
garment dyed linen lounge dress in amber £40
a dark olive coloured dining plate £8.40
a pair of olive / brown sort of barrel leg trousers dated 2020 £45
green lambswool and cotton jumper £35
a pull over checked shirt again sample dates 2020 £45
and not baubles 😁 but a box of the paper chains that I had a couple of years ago and loved 6.50

And bought the space dyed tank in red / green and blue for £50 on Vinted so am definitely shipped out.

We really enjoyed it. Nice, large space. Hope you got some nice things too!

IlovePond · 18/07/2026 20:31

You did really well @mizu - that all sounds lovely. I love those velvet quilts!

I wish I could have gone yesterday- they didn’t have anything so good today and prices were higher, (I think the real bargains had gone), but it was much better to have the sale upstairs.

@MsDastardley I am keeping my fingers crossed!

I got:

A bandana from the seashell collection, (to add to all the other bandanas that I have already and don’t know how to wear!) £15
A denim tunic top - I probably should have just got this as it looked really good on. I have never been interested in this sort of item before, but I like it a lot £50
A Kantha gown - why? I won’t use it as a dressing gown and just can’t see myself wearing it outside either - I should have not bought this 😿 £75
The green striped button through dress from a recent collection - I really don’t know what I am going to do with this either, but it’s a fun piece of clothing! £50
An oatmeal jumper, (that I first saw in a sale a couple of years ago - they must have had loads in storage somewhere) £50
An advent calendar and Xmas wooden printing blocks to use as Xmas presents

In case anyone does fancy going to Shepton Mallet tomorrow, this is what they had left by mid-afternoon today, (no guarantee - obviously - that any of it will be there tomorrow):

Loads of those brightly coloured huge linen bags: £65
The orange Turtle bags: £30
Some pairs of the Chie Mihera velvet shoes: 39 and 49: £60
Cream Novesta pumps: £20
A couple of cotton quilts: £160
Some bedding - various prices
Some candles and candlesticks that were still pricey: £24, for example
A few Xmas paper decorations: £6.50
Industrial quantities, in a range of sizes, of the lime green Gabis: £25
Lots of those floppy, lacy wide-brimmed straw(?) hats from a recent sale - didn’t see the price
Some knitted long socks: £14
Various bandanas: £15

Note: Someone at Toast has dug out a supply of swimwear - long since discontinued - and there was a box of various items looking unloved along a wall, half-hidden by the XL rail. I think most people missed it completely due to its location, so I suspect some of it will still be there tomorrow. From a quick glance most of it seemed to be dark green/black patterned separates.

Re: Individual items

On the XS/S rails: There were quite a lot of very small-sized dresses, trousers, shorts, skirts, tops left by mid-afternoon. Prices ranged from £20 for a long-sleeved top to about £70 for some trousers

Very very little left of anything in M, with a bit more left on the L/XL rails

Virtually all nightwear had gone in all sizes, ditto knitwear. Only one coat left, (XL orange/black check - the one I should have bought in M from the autumn 24 collection 😿)

Very few shoes /sandals and just a few random cotton hats

No plates/cups/glasses/jugs/bowls, etc. (There were none of these left when I arrived in the morning - I assume they all sold out yesterday)

Imo, there wasn’t much of interest downstairs in the ‘outlet’ section of the shop. I was hoping some stuff from the recent sale had landed, but no such luck.

On a non- Toast note: NRBY opposite Toast are also having a sample sale. I bought a white cotton long-sleeved top for £25 - very pleased with it!

Hope this helps!

That’s such a shame @PrincessofWills I hope you feel better soon 💐

Thank you - I'm pleased those who went got lots of lovely swag.

CakeAndJazz · 19/07/2026 09:19

@mizu and @IlovePond you managed some lovely things, and such good prices. @IlovePond I’ve been wanting the scarf from the seashell collection for so long (it’s large and cream coloured with green, brown, orange shell and seaweed detail). Do you know if they might sell me one over the phone? I’ve kept an eye on all the resale sites for so long, and managed to buy one but it was stained and unwashed (so returned it).

IlovePond · 19/07/2026 09:39

@CakeAndJazz if you phone first thing today and ask they might, (they would usually, but don’t normally during sale time).

If they say no, you could ask if it would be possible for you to call back first thing tomorrow and if there are any left, could they sell you one then.

Mine is the bandana.

I'm so envious of those who made it to the sample sale - if it weren't literally the other side of the country I'd be there in a flash. I don't suppose you noticed if they had any flat sheets amongst the bedlinen @IlovePond ?

IlovePond · 19/07/2026 09:54

I think they did @faustina but couldn’t swear to it as they were in those cotton bags and I didn’t look properly. They definitely had quilt covers yesterday pm.

Yesterday’s journey wasn’t as bonkers as the one I did down from Thirsk, (after convincing DH that Shepton Mallet was - sort of - on the way home), but I was still pleased to hear from staff that at least one person this weekend had travelled the same distance as me to get to the sale 😹

I would usually combine a trip to SM with a weekend away, but have to be home for serious stuff tomorrow and DH dislikes having just one night away so a day trip it was 🙀

OP posts:
faustina · 19/07/2026 09:59

Thanks @IlovePond - I might give them a ring. It sounds as if your trip was definitely worth it!
