I’m broke, what can take the place of Botox?

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 27/06/2026 21:07

I’ve been getting my 11s, forehead, and crows feet done for about 3/4 years, usually every 7-8 months.

But now I’m broke, and my crows feet in particular are beginning to bother me, and my left eyelid feels a bit droopy and uncomfortable.

Is there anything that remotely compares? I can’t use tret, i have eczema and my skin can’t take it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please?

That’s what I’ve ordered! ☺️ Couldn't remember the name of it.

Thanks! 😁

To be fair if you walked up to women chatting in real life and started lecturing them on how they’re a letdown to all womankind and their faces look ridiculous you would also get a pretty sour reception.

Wee lesson for you there maybe 😉

Likewise. Good luck when you are 70 😂

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 30/06/2026 11:34

Well I’m not 70 am I? That’s a quarter of a century away, so not sure what that’s got to do with anything at all.

Just can’t stop sneering can you. Kinda sad.

Jan? This is the same as calling women ‘a Karen’ to try to shut them down, cancel them, and invalidate their viewpoints.

I raise women up. I believe all women have a right to be valued exactly as they are. I won’t be bullied or suppressed by the Botox generation no matter the pressure to conform to this new way of trying to make women feel like they are never good enough.

It’s important that all voices are heard respectfully. I don’t need to call people names (Jan, arsehole) to express an opinion because I’m confident in myself.

The anger and abuse I suspect is a way of deflecting from answering one simple question. Why does society put so much pressure on women to look a certain way and look younger?

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 30/06/2026 12:04

But we don’t CARE about your question.

I think we’re going to have to learn to ignore the trolls. They spoil threads. Or maybe MN could allow us to block certain posters.
anyway, here to say I use medik8 vit c too, it’s very non irritating, it’s also an oil, so it’s hydrating, I don’t use moisturiser now, under my spf, the c- tetra is enough. But I have normal skin. However! It doesn’t do anything for my frown lines, particularly.
I’ve just ordered medik8 advanced peptides, which say they really do knock back expression lines.. we shall see.
from a budgetary PoV your best bet is a packet of frownies.

I'm 70 and happy with my skin. I have good genes and not too many wrinkles. I do get one on my forehead and I get Botox every 6 months. You're happy. I'm happy . I don't question why you don't use it. I don't care. The OP asked for advice not a lecture on the topic. You don't sound happy tbh.

Yes I know you don’t care. But there is freedom of speech which means I have as much right to my viewpoint as you do yours. I respect you gave an opinion, and although I might disagree with your viewpoint, I respect your right to express it.

😂 You don’t get to ban opposing viewpoints. It’s not what a democracy is about.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 30/06/2026 13:00

Yes because it’s MY conversation 🤣

You just waded in with no intention of engaging with my actual OP, just spouting your very boring heard-it-all-before nonsense.

You can’t have imagined it would go that well.

Having an opposing viewpoint to you has zero link to my level of happiness. What a bizarre thing to conclude.

Mumsnet is an open forum for debate and you don’t own it. You don’t get to police who uses it. How controlling of you. It’s clever that you use deliberately emotive verbs such as ‘waded in’ to try to portray be in a negative way. I can engage in any way I choose as long as I adhere to the rules of the forum - which I do.

Megifer · 30/06/2026 13:08

Gaaaahhhhh ignore the me-railer! Some of the product tips are really good but they're going to get lost in all the weirdness 😩

BrentfordForever · 30/06/2026 13:08

For me all comments are welcome as long as there is no nastiness … and some PPs here were respectful 😍

also tbf there is a tendency for people to go overboard on fillers etc and possibly that’s what PPs are referring to.. I think OP like some of us just aim for basic natural improvement , nothing as intense as Love Island look 😉

This is not about anything going well or not for me. The process of reasoned debate is what interested me the most. I don’t need a majority vote. I’m not here for that. This is about open honest respectful debate and I’m confident enough and strong enough to withstand the torrent of abuse coming my way.

Or just let the steam run out as hopefully there will be more recommendations and my DS says a polar bear snuffs it everytime AI is used 😬

BrentfordForever · 30/06/2026 13:15

@FloodlightsOnTheSquare here is an AI summary for you 😍

Topical products

  • Nip + Fab Peptide Fix Oil — recommended by a poster whose friend got compliments and even cancelled her Botox after using it.
  • The Ordinary's Argireline ("Botox in a bottle") — said to work well on dynamic lines and gentle enough for the eye socket; one poster noticed her droopy eye looked less noticeable after about a month.
  • The Ordinary's Volufiline (92% + PAL-Isoleucine 1% Plumping Serum) — a plumping serum recommended with a direct Boots link.
  • Medik8 Vitamin C (C-Tetra) — non-irritating, oil-based and hydrating; good as a standalone step under SPF for normal skin.
  • Medik8 Advanced Peptides — claims to soften expression lines; a poster had just ordered it to try.
  • Frownies (or generic silicone scar tape) — a cheap option applied overnight to discourage frown lines; flagged repeatedly as the best budget pick.
  • VT reedle
Devices
  • Foreo Bear (or similar microcurrent device)

Of course it’s important to be able to have reasoned debate. But you are debating a different subject. The OP has asked for alternatives to Botox, you are debating the rights and wrongs of Botox, and that isn’t the debate that either the OP or others wish to engage in.

Welllll yes and no. I’d say your posts could be considered derailing, perhaps?

But my main point of view I suppose is that yes, obviously it’s an open forum, but I would be embarrassed for myself if I waded into, say, a thread about Love Island, and started telling everyone they were wrong for watching it.

I would just scroll past 🤷‍♀️
