I’m broke, what can take the place of Botox?

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 27/06/2026 21:07

I’ve been getting my 11s, forehead, and crows feet done for about 3/4 years, usually every 7-8 months.

But now I’m broke, and my crows feet in particular are beginning to bother me, and my left eyelid feels a bit droopy and uncomfortable.

Is there anything that remotely compares? I can’t use tret, i have eczema and my skin can’t take it.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please?

My dd is extremely athletic, competed for her school, has a responsible job-and-shock horror has had Invisalign and what she calls ‘preventative Botox’ at 27. She’s hiked up Snowdon and various Lake District fells like a goat. Injectables aren’t for me as I don’t like the look on older women, but it’s ridiculous to say that if you care about looks you don’t care about anything else. The OP asked for things which will make her skin nice not whether she’s immoral.

OP, I also want to suggest getting your eyebrows tinted and shaped. I had mine done for my ds wedding last year and was amazed what a lift it gave to my face-the tech called it Eyebrow Botox! Saying that, if you add all the skincare and brow tint together, it’ll ptobs cost the same as Botox anyway!

They are right.

No they are young. Their time will come. They just don't see that yet.

I am in France … it’s so hot that I can’t do any of the things I had planned so I booked myself a facial. It was a completely different experience.. instead concentrating a lot on lotions and potions there was a lot specific lymphatic drainage type massage and the therapist was very keen that I notice the “lift” in my face …she did half my face at a time.
I asked if there was uptake Botox in France and she said no.. they rely on massage and some products.
It was a very eye opening experience.

The problem with many of these facials is that the results are temporary. Eg hydrafacials which can be 200 pounds a pop. Mine lasted less than 24 hours.

Probably. Either way Id be reminding them they are now adults so are a bit too old to be trying to blame others "examples".

God, most of the replies on this thread 🙄

OP, try microneedling (though still not cheap but works out about £50 a month once you’ve done the initial 4-5 sessions) I’ve had to give up Botox for financial reasons and also, I’ve seen so much Botox poisoning on people lately, it’s really scared me. I will get it again but am going to have to save until the end of the year I think.

I do see a difference with microneedling, not as dramatic as Botox but still a difference. I also use nip & fab products and swear by them and a good quality SPF and moisturiser!

You’ve misunderstood me. My DD and friends also love hair, make up, nails and fashion. But they none of them have any interest in lip fillers, Botox, turkey teeth etc. They consider this going too far in the pursuit of beauty. Too much money, time, faff. The young women (not many) I know who do the tweakments - im talking lips, teeth, nose, tan, poss a bit of Botox, have a different focus in their life. Go climb a fell in the Lake District and you won’t find any of these women on the top of it.

God you really doubled down didn't you?

What's the expression again? Handmaiden of the patriarchy?

Sums you up I think.

But what do I know? I put fake tan on once and apparently killed all my brain cells 🤷

Why can't we all just age naturally and gracefully? Botox etc removes character and 'a life lived' from your face. Why would anyone do that?

I do it because it lifts and opens my droopy eyes and makes me look alert and refreshed. Money well spent.

They are right.

I agree and I’m not getting anything done because I don’t want to normalise it. It’s very different injecting stuff into your face and skin to combing/dyeing hair or putting on a bit of makeup. I’m surprised people are making that comparison!

Honeyhonay · 29/06/2026 12:27

Hellohelga · 29/06/2026 10:45

It’s not misogynistic to feel women shouldn’t need to change their faces with surgeries and injecting stuff into it. Narrow minded maybe, or maybe just a different opinion to you and the OP.

It’s misogynistic to claim women who care about their appearance or alter it can’t be interested in Y, and women who are interested in X aren’t interested in their appearance.
It’s almost as if women are a dynamic body of people and can care about their appearance and have an interest in hobbies.

Is it though? It’s a temporary cosmetic treatment.

@Hellohelga
@kitchenchaosargh

they are not right. Who the hell do they think they are to tell their mother what she can and cannot do to her own face?!

Also, so what if it is a ‘bad example’?! Not everything a mother does has to be with her children in mind. They are adults, they make their own decisions.

This! @Hellohelga

refraining from Botox doesn’t make you a better person.

soz

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 29/06/2026 13:15

If anything you should get every treatment under the sun, and they will automatically think it’s uncool and do the exact opposite.

Me too. It looks natural. I do it three times a year. They call it a Botox Brow Lift. I thought Botox was just for wrinkles. The difference is shocking. I used to look so old and tired. Because I am not using Botox to target wrinkles, this could be why the result looks more natural.

I am hoping that by getting Botox I will never need to get eyelid/brow surgery. (The government will pay for a surgical brow lift when the drooping interferes with your vision -they did for my elderly Dad).

Bumbelinaaa · 27/06/2026 22:54

Botox weirdly doesn’t work much/very long for me for me! However, for your basic forehead/bunny line/crows eye, it’s not a service that requires a particularly high level of skill (like good filler can be), so have you tried shopping around for a lower price? Just check that they are using a well regarded neurotoxin brand

Not a service that requires a high level of skill? Are you joking? Anyone who puts needles into your face requires a thorough knowledge of facial anatomy and physiology ie. the position of nerves and blood vessels, the action of the muscles etc. Plus what to do if a problem occurs. You need to go to a skilled and experienced medical professional to ensure your safety.

Rondayvu · 30/06/2026 07:18

@FloodlightsOnTheSquare did you get any good recommendations? I can't get through 11 pages of people telling you to age gracefully. I am here for the recommendations if you did get any good ones but I can't be reading through the other sanctimonious lecturing posts. No everyone wants to look haggard.

@rapid3874greekyoghurt perhaps if people only came on with recommendations which is what the op asked for instead of giving her their advices/pieces of their mind there would not be so many pages at all to have to sift through and those of us interested in recommendations would be able to just discuss them without being told off for our decisions. Bodily autonomy and all that being a RIGHT.

GrimDamnFanjo · 30/06/2026 08:43

What were you spending before?
im fairly wedded to my Botox person but I have developed quite a microneedling habit.
by accident I discovered a local training centre who call for models on an instagram channel so I’m using that option at the moment.
I’ve done it 4 times now, the trainer is 1:2 and closely supervises.

Thanks! 😁

To be fair if you walked up to women chatting in real life and started lecturing them on how they’re a letdown to all womankind and their faces look ridiculous you would also get a pretty sour reception.

Wee lesson for you there maybe 😉

I ordered some stuff from The Ordinary which was then later debunked by some research someone posted on the thread 🤣

And there’s something called Reedle I’m going to look into.

After that it was mostly fending off the whinging.

I never said unqualified. The fact is, Botox is much easier to perform than filler.

Nanda66 · 30/06/2026 09:17

In my view nothing works as well as Botox. I haven’t been able to have it for a few months and I look older and tired (I’m late 50s). However I’ve found that using a vitamin C serum on my face has made a big difference, it might be a bit more saggy and wrinkled but my skin is glowing. Sorry, probably not much help, but it’s working for me in the meantime. I used Medik8 but there are cheaper alternatives.

I can’t understand why people who are not interested in having Botox feel the need to comment on a thread like this. Some of the responses have been awful.

FloodlightsOnTheSquare · 30/06/2026 09:19

Thanks @Nanda66maybe I’ll look at a serum. I just get scared to try new things as my eyes are so very sensitive, and once the irritation it can take weeks (and steroid cream) to calm it down. It’s very frustrating and partly why Botox works well for me.

Hope that justifies it for the ladies in the back 🤣

The Ordinary's Argireline. Known as 'botox in a bottle'. Great for dynamic lines. It's gentle enough for me to use in my eye socket too and after about a month, I've noticed my more hooded droopy eye is less noticeable.

I was going to suggest this!
