Pockets in dresses?

Pockets in dresses - why? They tend to be made into the seams directly in line with the hips, accentuating unnecessarily. What are people putting in there anyway? A tissue? Loose change?

Just hands in mine. Don’t know why, it just feels comfy.

booksunderthebed · 02/06/2026 18:20

airpods, my phone.

I wish more women's clothing had pockets!

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 02/06/2026 18:21

I never put anything in pockets. It spoils the line of the clothes.

Exactly! Isn't that what a bag is for?

I think they look awful in dresses, they make your hips look bigger 😅 I avoid dresses with pockets

Same with formal trousers that skim the hips

HenriettaHenhouse · 02/06/2026 18:24

I wouldn't buy a dress (or anything) without pockets. Even my pjs have pockets.

I don't carry a bag all the time so keys, tissues, phone, dog biscuits, hair slides, shopping list, credit card - not all at once.

Plumbed · 02/06/2026 18:25

I never buy dresses without pockets. Phone, key and lipgloss. Don’t own any handbags.

Danikm151 · 02/06/2026 18:26

Dresses with pockets are elite!

Ohthatsabitshit · 02/06/2026 18:26

Some of us are less worried about “looking like we have something in our pockets” than others? I mean honestly if you can’t imagine why someone would need to be able to move around without a handbag I suspect you live in a bizarrely niche world of the limply feminine.

Enko · 02/06/2026 18:26

Another one who is nkt a fan and dont get me started on pockets inn wedding dresses

SoScarletItWas · 02/06/2026 18:26

I don’t like pockets either. I might not reject a dress completely because of them, but I don’t get the love. Anything in them spoils the line or gives you a lump.

Although hands in pockets is great for a little swish. Or a pose at the bar.

nonmerci99 · 02/06/2026 18:26

I quite like them as long as they don’t, as you say, unnecessarily accentuate the hip. It just depends on the cut of the dress.

If I need to be active I’m probably in trousers (which suit pockets) and not a dress.

Limply feminine?! Oh do fuck off.

This.

Who wants to permanently have a bag? Or worse, those phone lanyards.

This accurately sums up how I feel/react when I realise my dress has pockets....

I love my new dress because it has pockets.
Just being able to put a tissue or my phone or my hands in there and going 'look pockets!' to whoever will listen -is the best.
I don't care about lines and style though & if I did I might feel differently.

LulaLulaByeBye · 02/06/2026 18:31

I love pockets in dresses. I don't care if it ruins the line. If I am in a hotel for example, I am going down to dinner I can put my phone and key-card in there, that is all I need, I don't need to faff with a bag.

Oh a summer day though, taking the dog round the block or popping to the shop you can just slip what you need in the pocket. No need for a bag. No need to change into trousers.

FourForksSake · 02/06/2026 18:35

Even better are deep pockets that actually fit a phone or whatever without fear of the item falling out.

AntiHop · 02/06/2026 18:51

I only ever buy clothes with pockets. Safer and more convenient than a bag.

hattie43 · 02/06/2026 18:51

I don’t buy dresses without pockets , love a pocket

hellospring26 · 02/06/2026 19:08

I was marvelling today when I realised my new shorts have pockets. Bloody love pockets.

MissPrismsMistake · 02/06/2026 19:14

I don’t find them useful on dresses.

But there’s nothing nicer than an inner pocket on a jacket or coat - those really can obviate the need for a bag, sometimes.

cramptramp · 02/06/2026 19:14

I hate them too. Pointless.
