It suits you but not really MOB in my opinion.

fascinators are a no, wear a proper big statement hat.

AgentPidge · 01/06/2026 15:20

With a train? It's gorgeous but a bit elaborate for MOB.

princesspadam · 01/06/2026 15:24

But I don’t want to look like a MOB, it’s not so much a train as a flowy bit

NorWouldTilly · 01/06/2026 15:30

It’s fine if that’s the dress code for the wedding.

I would want people in their very best daywear for mine.

princesspadam · 01/06/2026 15:31

It’s formal wear, dd wants me in a floor length gown
the men are in black tie

Black tie wedding? Otherwise a hard no. MoG previously, MoB to be.

Girlwithavibe · 01/06/2026 15:59

I love it !!!!
U look stunning in it ❣️ 😍 ❣️

Overtheatlantic · 01/06/2026 17:05

You look gorgeous! Avoid the fascinator.

PineappleSunrise · 01/06/2026 17:18

Great choice for a black tie wedding. The colour and asymmetric neckline really suit you.

As the dress code is black tie, I’d avoid fascinators and the like and just accessorise with a good evening clutch and sparkly sandals.

Puffalicious · 01/06/2026 17:33

I think you look beautiful. However, wondering if this is an American trend coming over here? They tend to have many weddings where the MOB is in a long gown, often with a train. I've seen it creeping in here now & again & I don't know if I like it. It's like the MOB needs to be very glamorous & it almost seems in competition with the bride?

Edited to say: NOT that I'm saying that's what your intention is, OP.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 01/06/2026 17:38

You look stunning!

Its a gorgeous dress and you look amazing and if your DD wants you in a floor length gown then its perfect.

My DD is getting married next year and has also expressed that she would love me to be in a floor length gown, like her bridesmaids, as I am one of her wedding party.

As long as your DD is fine with a long gown then go for it. 🙂

Overtheatlantic · 01/06/2026 18:27

Yes definitely an American thing “creeping” over to England, where fascinators are still worn and fashion is often an afterthought. 😆

NorWouldTilly · 01/06/2026 18:39

Have to disagree, @Tortephant. At least three of your suggestions are just nice long dresses, rather than distinctively formal evening wear. And two would be far too heavy and warm if it’s a summer wedding.

The OP’s daughter’s dress code wouldn’t be my choice, but the OP looks perfectly fine in her dress and it fits the context.

I said it suited her. It’s just not appropriate for the occasion, and a bit dated

LaurieFairyCake · 01/06/2026 20:08

Lovely formal gown, though the fascinator lets it down and definitely detracts from it.

I love fascinators but a really modern one or proper hat would look better

LaurieFairyCake · 01/06/2026 20:10

These float your boat ?

It looks gorgeous on you. Love the colour too. Imho far too many women wear something they consider a MoB outfit that doesn't do them any justice.

BleeBlahBlue · 01/06/2026 20:21

You look amazing.

A classic mother of the bride outfit can be quite old fashioned for a younger MOB.

You've got a great figure and this is showing it off! You don't want to be frumpy because that us what is 'normal'

If your daughter likes it then go for it!

SliceofTosst · 01/06/2026 21:46

You look stunning.

Some of the suggestions are awful and much more dressed down.

Definitely no fascinator though.

bellventrico · 01/06/2026 22:27

Stunning for MOB at a black tie wedding. I really suits you and the colour is strong and will be great for the photos - I'd suggest hiring a really spectacular hat/headpiece rather than buying

Totally not dated it's very on trend

Woodfiresareamazing2 · 01/06/2026 23:36

It's a beautiful dress, great cut, shows off your figure really well, and is age and event appropriate.

I think it's a great choice.

Are 'black tie ' weddings in the evening? Dinner suits and long dresses are surely for evening parties?
Very formal daytime weddings are tailcoats and very smart day dresses. Look at ' 4 weddings and a funeral'.
