@NorWouldTilly @Tortephant @nonmerci99 thank you! If I do any weights or manual work I get guns like the Rock, so I do a lot of pilates but am just never going to be willowy like OP. Those arms on a woman with a grown up child - EXCEPTIONAL WORK!

As the youth say, her body is tea! And I do suspect that’s why a few vocal commenters are so angry. I would love to look that good in a dress like that! Gotta keep lifting 💪🏻🏋️‍♀️

tartyflette · Today 12:38

No fascinator and no big hat either, it would be all wrong for a dress like that.
An ultra chic hairdo or a small floral pin/small and sparkly jewel for your hair? Perhaps not on a band.
I might suggest some kind of non-frumpy cover up in a contrasting colour to the dress like a beautiful silk wrap (on stand-by) if appropriate for the weather.

Just because someone disagrees with you it doesn't mean they are angry. I am neither angry not have I 'ranted and raved' as @PineappleSunrise would have it. I've told the OP that evening wear is not appropriate in the daytime (because it isn't). Obviously she will wear what she likes, inappropriate or not, it's of little interest to me although I do think it's funny that another poster has told her you don't wear hats with evening dresses and that seems to have got past the over dressed fan club.

You've led a sheltered life if you think telling someone that you don't wear evening dresses in the daytime is unhinged.

I haven't tried to dictate anything. Do you always over react?

Touched a nerve I see 😂

VenusClapTrap · Today 13:30

The train is a bit much, I think, so I’d have that removed, and keep to the absolute bare minimum with accessories. I haven’t been to this sort of wedding so can’t comment on appropriateness, but you look great in it.

It's inspired me, I was on that reformer at 8am this morning.
@princesspadam is playing her cards close to her chest and not revealing her awesome arm secrets 😂

Ignore some of the unhelpful posters on here OP! There are always some on there threads!

You look fabulous in that dress. The colour and the cut really suit you. I agree no hat or fascinator. Just some beautiful, but simple, jewellery and a good clutch bag and you will look fabulous!

Where did the OP say it wasn’t an evening wedding?

PineappleSunrise · Today 14:35

It’s obvious to anyone except apparently you that I’m talking about a series of garments and referring to the pattern. You’re just arguing for the sake of it now.

Then you’ve had no point at all to make. The question was whether the chocolate brown polka dotted dress would date less than a solid block colour one. If you just want to talk about patterns but jot the dresses themselves and how trendy they are, I’m afraid a solid colour is even less likely to date than a polkadot!

RedPony1 · Today 15:53

Tortephant · 01/06/2026 19:35

I said it suited her. It’s just not appropriate for the occasion, and a bit dated

i think your suggestions were far more dated when i looked through, so it's all a matter of opinion

RitaIncognita · Today 16:39

It's a fair point that OP has not indicated what time of day the wedding is being held. I think many of the negative posters are assuming that it is in the daytime because that has long been the practice in the UK, especially in England where until fairly recently, I believe, by law weddings had to occur before 6 pm.

If the wedding is in the evening, the dress is appropriate, bare shoulder and train included. If in the daytime, it might seem a bit out of place as black tie dressing (in the UK, I assume, and in the US as well) is traditionally for evening only. However, there is a middle ground which sometimes happens in the US, which is that even in the daytime, the wedding party, mothers included, dress in black tie and evening dresses, while guests wear attire more traditional for daytime.

Either way, it's a beautiful dress and OP looks great in it. I am, however, firmly in the no headgear camp.

It wasn’t. Try reading your own posts. You said:

Polkadots are THE micro trend of this summer, which unfortunately means they will date very quickly. Probably by Sept, given how ubiquitous they are in the shops right now!

I know. I’m sorry. I’m going to piss off out of it now as I’m contributing to the lunacy.

Pendapala · Today 17:43

If I looked that good as MOB in that dress and DC was having a black tie wedding, I’d be all over it. It really is beautiful on you. Maybe drop the head wear though (it looks like it’s trying to fly off! )

I’ve been to a traditional US Southern black tie daytime wedding and this is very much the sort of thing people were wearing. I think it’s a nice fashion for a day or evening non religious wedding, pr the secular part of a non religious wedding.

Pendapala · Today 17:47

@princesspadam just seen your daughter is marrying an American. That dress is completely appropriate for a US black tie wedding.

dontwantobeneet · Today 17:50

I think it’s beautiful and really suits you. Not sure a hat or fascinates would work as it’s black tie, would you consider some sort of hair clip. Or just fab accessories.
