What dresses are you all wearing?

Daisydaisy1313 · 25/05/2026 17:30

Most of my Summer clothes no longer fit and I desperately need a couple of cool, floaty dresses and some shorts that are not too short.

What have you all bought recently that you’ve loved?

I really need some inspiration.

This dress from Uniqlo. Amazing quality, washes really well and sooo comfortable. In fact, any of the dresses from Uniqlo are great.

That looks fabulous on you! And your boobs look super-perky, especially if you're a double F cup! I suspect I may have gone up a cup size (currently 36F), though I swore I wouldn't buy any new bras until I lost weight! (That was my 2025 resolution ...!!).

I love the colour too - I think that slightly darker/richer, almost burgundy/red/orange all at once, shade is great too. I've started to migrate from brighter reds towards those richer ones since my hair has faded from auburn to strawberry blonde.

But you have a very clearly defined waistline (which the dress also highlights well). It's the area I put weight on first. Still, it's in store here in Edinburgh, so I may venture into town when the temperatures drop ...

How kind of you @EleanorMc67 I feel very cheered! I’ve recently lost a LOT of weight so rediscovering my shape is still a work in progress!

Go and try it on!

Do the trousers crease much or are they easy wearing, like a wash and toss it on?

If I get them out of the machine and hung up straight away they are OK, especially the darker ones. Ironing them definitely takes them up a nitch though. The uniqlo dresses always need an iron unfortunately

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · Yesterday 21:55

None because I am fed up of all these mid dresses with soooooo much fabric that drown my 5ft 5 frame. Tried one on the other day and looked like a milk maid.

BitOutOfPractice · Yesterday 22:05

I bought a lovely emerald green cotton midi shirt dress from H&M at the weekend. It’s gloriously wafty thin cotton. I felt very swanky in it. It was only £28 but I feel it could be a real stalwart of my wardrobe. Only downside, no pockets.

Seasalt and I don't care who doesn't like it.

I wore this today.

I know it isn't the height of fashion but it is cotton, has pockets and was comfortable in this weather.

RampantIvy · Yesterday 22:33

I have this dress in navy. It lookds like they no longer do this in navy though

Ah, well I know it's not going to look as good around my (absent) waistline as it does yours!

Though you have encouraged me to do something about my waist ... as I'm very envious! It's difficult as I've always been naturally slim (super-skinny in my 20s), & I felt really self-conscious about being tall & lanky with small boobs. I hated being skinny! By my 40s I was a bit curvier but still a 12.

Now post-menopause at 59 (with fibromyalgia which can limit movement at times, & a sweet tooth that has appeared since I stopped drinking), I'm now a 16 - & can feel I'm creeping towards an 18 in some labels. Yet I actually feel quite comfortable in one way with my body, as I was teased so much for my skinniness when younger! But my midriff is where I've put most of it on, & I don't like the fact that it's starting to affect what I can wear, proportionally speaking. My height has allowed me to ignore it longer than I should ...

Congratulations again on your weight loss - & the gorgeous new dress! I hope you have LOTS of fun shopping for a new wardrobe!!

Are those Asda dresses any good? I WFH so all my clothes are cheap and cheerful at the moment as I don’t see anyone 😝

I have this George dress which is lovely in this weather! https://direct.asda.com/george/women/dresses/black-sleeveless-tiered-jersey-mini-dress/GEM1417948,default,pd.html?cgid=D1M1G20C1

The only one I could find on H&M that I'd describe as an emerald-green shirtdress is this one - but I presume it's not this, as it's dearer?

Ah, it's this one isn't it? Oddly doesn't come up in a search on their website for cotton shirtdress! It's a very nice dress that I can imagine becoming a bit of a staple.

I know that this thread is really meant to be about day dresses that people are wearing in the heat, to give the OP some inspiration.

But this is what I wafted around in today ...!! A silk maxi dress* from NRBY that has been sold out forever (& more than I could afford anyway). And I'm so chuffed with it I just had to post! Especially since my partner didn't even notice it earlier ... 🙄

I've been keeping an eye out via saved searches on eBay & Vinted for ages, & then one popped up in my size last week. Still more than I could really avoid right now, but I couldn't resist ... & I absolutely love it! It also makes me look slimmer IMO - which is not the first thing I look for in my clothes, but it's a nice side-effect of the cut. I'm a 16-18 & feel I look less than that in this.

I only wore it for a couple of hours this evening, just for the sheer pleasure of it. But it will receive a proper airing in public soon - dinner out beckons!

Crappy photo though - sorry!

*Irrelevant info - it's from a past collaboration with the fashion & furniture designer Tracey Boyd, who is married to Adrian Wright, ex-Human League keyboard player!

@EleanorMc67 that dress is gorgeous!

Me? I have swapped my winter look of long sleeved black asymmetrical dresses for short sleeved black asymmetrical dresses, topped off with a rather fabulous pair of Alexander McQueen studded cat's eye sunglasses I got last year on ebay. I don't normally look good in colour, although I did buy a beautiful purple Donna Karan wiggle dress that my Dh is shocked to hear I am going to dress up with turquoise rather than black. Meh, I am a creative, people expect me to look nuts.

Thank you! I like the sound of your dresses - AllSaints by any chance?

I keep admiring this one, though it's many years since I had the chest of a teenage boy & could happily go bra-less! It's certainly very well-ventilated ...

Yes! Mostly all saints, with a mix of Me and Thee, Norma Kamali and vintage Donna Karan. I don't like the newer Donna Karan New York stuff as it's a bit dull and I am waiting for Urban Zen clothes to trickle down to the second hand market as they are waaaay out of my budget brand new. I used to go crazy for Me and Thee but now everything seems very 70s disco and nothing suitable for day wear. :( I have sifted through them and there is more colour than I thought, but nothing outrageous, mostly copper and orange and gorgeous sage green slinky Donna Karan number that is begging to be taken out to dinner. I do have a lovely terracotta Hush dress that looks like a greek toga. It's quite a silky fabric and no matter how I abuse it, it never wrinkles. I can literally ball it up in my hand and bury it in the bottom of a bag and it bounces back. It's very light and floaty. I really wish Hush would do it again, I would buy it in lots of different colours. Footwear is a real problem for me as I have very weak ankles and like a lot of support so I am thinking of getting a pair of brown cowboy boots. I tend to live in deck shoes but I need something a bit more rock and roll (with support for a fractured ankle that doesn't seem to be healing). Any ideas?!

It’s not that one. I couldn’t find it on the H&M site either. I bought it in store. Please excuse the mess in this pic - it’s in my steaming hook in my laundry cupboard.

I wore this Whistles one to work yesterday and got quite a few compliments. I'm short so it's just above the knee on me. It's great for hot weather as it's very light material, no waistbands and doesn't crumple.

I just found some simple knee,-length shorts from Weird Fish which fit my rather tubby nether regions comfortably and actually don't make me look bigger than usual. I thknk they may be last season as I found them in Boundary Mills Outlet.

I’m wearing this beautiful blue one from
Sosandar on repeat. It’s very comfortable, and I receive so many compliments.

I’m waiting for this green broderie anglaise one to arrive from H&M, and I’m hoping it fits well as I love it.
