Hi I'm going to be inter-railing this summer. Its going to be hot and I'll have a rucksack. I'm looking for a bomb proof dress that can literally be screwed up and chucked in a bag for the evenings. I'm 56, 5ft 4 size 10 , decent boobs, nothing really above the knee pls. Cheap and needs to be able to be slung in a sink and wrung out to dry over night. Is there such a thing? thank you

I always wear a skirt from https://www.macabiskirt.com when travelling. Very versatile, dries quickly, converts to long or short and even to harem-style trousers. That, along with a couple of t-shirts and some quick-dry undies from Rohan and you're good to go.

I have one and I've even worn it hiking. Super comfortable, dries super fast, and wears like iron.

Maybe have a look at Rohan, Weird Fish or Go Outdoors pricey yes but they will probably have the exact thing you want and if the style fits then maybe check out Vinted and Ebay. Definitely avoid linen or anything too thick as it will definitely not dry over night .

Jersey and denim seem to be neverdrying.

You would have to undress completely to wee outdoors!

Al fresco weeing is not on everyone's bucket list, of course.

But need arises.

Sweaty Betty explorer dress. On sale now and all over Vinted. Thin as anything and won't crease, can wash in a hotel sink and will look great hung up to dry.

Nothing on this thread even remotely suggested anyone would be weeing outdoors! Inter-railing involves trains... with toilets... last time I looked!

Thank you guys youve been amazing. Mountain warehouse stuff is on sale at the moment so I think definitely a dress from there, but now I'm wondering about chucking in something from your suggestions thats a little bit smarter - especially as I'll mainly be in cities in the evenings and I dont want to obviously standout as a lone woman traveller.

Red lipstick like Margo?

The trains are just the means of travel! I'm assuming she will be disboarding frequently ...

I hate peeing outdoors, but when walking rurally, as a PP said - needs must!! And there's nothing to say the OP might not be sticking purely to cities.

Sorry for the multiple posts ... internet issues!

What a great thread!

On the strength of this thread I’m looking at the Mountain Warehouse Tahiti dress. Does anyone who has bought it think it comes up big or small? I’m between sizes so dithering.

We are doing our second interrailing holiday as a family this summer. Last time was 2023. I really enjoyed it. Packing light is crucial. I was ruthless last time about this and will be again this time.

Margo ... who?

My first two thoughts were (oddly) Gwyneth Paltrow-related. Margot getting off the train in the Royal Tenenbaums, & Marge in her 50s frocks & red lips in The Talented Mr Ripley.

Margo Leadbetter? Margo Robbie ...?

I managed never to go to the toilet outdoors when inter-railing, but we're all different I guess. I think it's a lovely dress regardless - might get it for myself, given that I pretty much never go to the toilet outdoors!

I’d agree - if it needs to be cheap the Uniqlo dress is specifically made to be quick drying - and comes in several colours:

I came on to recommend this exact dress. I have it in black and it is so versatile. And looks good as new after two years.

I hope the passengers sometimes leave the train!

ConBatulations · Yesterday 16:07

@MotherofPearl Have a similar one and would be inclined to size up but as with all clothes it will come down to body shape and how fitted you want it.

tougholdbirdy · Yesterday 16:15

I travel a lot and this dress is fabulous. I’ve got 3 now! Absorbs moisture, folds up to nothing, no creases and dries in seconds.

I did... and went to other places with toilets!

Thanks. I’m an 8 on the top half and 12 on the bottom half which is awkward. I can wear a 10 but depending on the fit this can either mean baggy on top and okay on the bottom, or fine on the top and too tight on the bottom! Drives me mad.
