Interailing summer dress

Hi I'm going to be inter-railing this summer. Its going to be hot and I'll have a rucksack. I'm looking for a bomb proof dress that can literally be screwed up and chucked in a bag for the evenings. I'm 56, 5ft 4 size 10 , decent boobs, nothing really above the knee pls. Cheap and needs to be able to be slung in a sink and wrung out to dry over night. Is there such a thing? thank you

You pribably want some sort of thin wrap dress that ties. I went travelling round portugal with a rucksack for several weeks and had a couple of dresses like this. Shein is really good for aline wrap dresses would wash in the sink and dry quick. They have a million colours and designs.

I got something like this at mountain warehouse last year. When I wash it it comes out dry!

I would avoid anything jersey, crisp fabrics like poplin (need ironing), polyester (sweaty & can get smelly), linen (creases like hell).

Go for a lightweight fabric in a slight crinkle finish - either a fine viscose or cotton gauze. You can just twist it into a knot & stick it in your bag, & it will be really quick-drying. That's the type of dress I've backpacked with in Mexico, India, North Africa etc.

Is sleeveless fine? What colours do you like/suit?

What about something like this? Beige or orangey-red (the latter will be easier to keep clean). Lightweight viscose, though I don't know what the finish is.

This one is cotton gauze & definitely immune to wrinkling.

This one is cotton cheesecloth, in several colours - though quite cut away regarding bra visibility.

If you've got a backpack then I'd go for t-shirt style rather than strappy dress unless you want to wear a top with it because rucksack straps will be sore on bare skin

I think the OP wants the dress for evenings?

This is similar to a couple of Me & Em dresses I have (bought on eBay/Vinted). Light gauzy cotton cheesecloth.

Just to say this sounds awesome at your age, I missed out on traveling when younger and have often thought I'd like to do interailing - I hope you have the best time!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · Yesterday 05:51

Rohan specialize in travel clothing that ticks all those boxes.

soupmaker · Yesterday 05:54

I’m planning inter-railing when I retire in my early 60s. Cannot wait.

This H&M dress might fit the bill. I love a bit of smocking.

@EleanorMc67that last Hush dress is lovely!

OrangeJellySnakes · Yesterday 05:57

Ooh the Rohan dress dries in 4 hours - @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads- had never heard of them !

Caspianberg · Yesterday 06:04

H and m is good for travel stuff at reasonable prices. They have linen blend trousers for example for £15-20. The khaki green colour is really nice, doesn’t show dirt, and cool whilst protects from mosquitoes in evenings. Dries fast

I’m sure they have dress of similar style, they don’t mind living in bags and not being gentle washed

MsSampson · Yesterday 07:26

Uniqlo airism might also fit the bill, sports type fabric, impossible to crease, very quick to dry.

BlossomBlossomBlossom · Yesterday 08:04

I’d agree - if it needs to be cheap the Uniqlo dress is specifically made to be quick drying - and comes in several colours:

i really like this! Easily dressed up too: nice earrings or necklace for evening.

Shoulders covered with a scarf for daytime wandering in the sun, and you could stick a shirt under it too

HeartyGoose · Yesterday 08:04

How about something like this long black dress?
The fabric is quite slinky so would roll up easily / wash and dry overnight. It actually looks much better on and could be dressed up more with some jewellery etc.

Womens Black Midi Vest Dress

This black midi dress is the perfect update for your collection this season. In a soft fabric with racer vest neckline and side split hem, it can be easily dressed up or down depending on the occasion and weather!

I would suggest patterned as hides creases better and shoulder covering in case you want to go somewhere v traditional
I had a similar to this from h&m when i travelled
