Interailing summer dress

Hi I'm going to be inter-railing this summer. Its going to be hot and I'll have a rucksack. I'm looking for a bomb proof dress that can literally be screwed up and chucked in a bag for the evenings. I'm 56, 5ft 4 size 10 , decent boobs, nothing really above the knee pls. Cheap and needs to be able to be slung in a sink and wrung out to dry over night. Is there such a thing? thank you

Have a look in Uniqlo. They have some great dresses that are made from good fabric, don’t need ironing and look nice. I bought a few last year so can’t justify any new ones, but I definitely would recommend.

Actually just realised more like this without the collar... Also as was cheap not too bothered about getting knackered but has lasted a few trips now.... can't see exact style but this doet of thing

How about a jumpsuit, especially for your train trips? It’s more comfy, and I envy your interrailing. I’d buy something in all the amazing countries you'll visit 😊

AmethystDeceiver · Yesterday 08:43

Oh wow, I am also going interrrailing through hot countries this summer, also a shorty (4.11 and 3/4, thank you very much!) and this thread is so useful! Thanks OP!

I second forgotten tribes by the way, also good for petite frames @fleeceandwellies

God, no. Wrestling with jumpsuits in tiny, juddering train loos!

Uniqlo have some great dresses in a very lightweight material that dries superfast and is non crease. I've got an Airism one https://www.uniqlo.com/uk/en/products/E482982-000/00?colorDisplayCode=38&sizeDisplayCode=003 which was brilliant when I was washing it in a hand basin and drip drying it

Outdoor brands like Regatta, tog24 and Decathlon also do travel dresses. This one has a pattern.https://www.regatta.com/womens-elona-dress-abstract-floral-beige/

I really like that dress.

I got something like this at mountain warehouse last year. When I wash it it comes out dry!

Yes, the clothing at proper outdoor shops is perfect for this and can be quite pretty.

It would end up spattered with slops of doom from the train loo floors.

Another middle-aged wannabe inter-railer here. Only posting to express envy and admiration!

YouHaveAnArse · Yesterday 11:06

Decathlon hiking dresses? Many of them are too short for me at 5ft 10 but may be useful for you?

YouHaveAnArse · Yesterday 11:07

Also Uniqlo Airism dresses, which I'd be all over if this season's colours worked on me.

timoteigirl · Yesterday 11:51

Another vote for Mountain Warehouse. Cheap. Pockets. Cover shoulders.

I always wear a skirt from https://www.macabiskirt.com when travelling. Very versatile, dries quickly, converts to long or short and even to harem-style trousers. That, along with a couple of t-shirts and some quick-dry undies from Rohan and you're good to go.

Mountain Warehouse

and Craghoppers both do a version too. They are both polyester - but thus is the technical sort of gymwear moisture wicking polyester rather than the sweaty cheap blouse type. It’s quick to dry and hard to crease.

@IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads your MW link didn't open for me so I did a search on their page for quick dry dress. The pic below is what came up.

I mean I know I'm fat but that's outrageously rude imo 😂

@fleeceandwellies I came on to suggest Rohan and Royal Robbins but can see I've been beaten to it! Have a fab trip, I'm very envious.

fleeceandwellies · Yesterday 12:44

Thank you guys youve been amazing. Mountain warehouse stuff is on sale at the moment so I think definitely a dress from there, but now I'm wondering about chucking in something from your suggestions thats a little bit smarter - especially as I'll mainly be in cities in the evenings and I dont want to obviously standout as a lone woman traveller.

I never sourced my travelling clothes from outdoor shops, as when I was younger the selection for women was very limited & quite grim!

Also, my vanity wouldn't allow me to give up on looking at least a little bit stylish! So I'd just choose suitable things from "normal" shops.

But that skirt in the long full cut is actually rather nice & "utility chic" in vibe. I actually love both skirts & dresses for travelling, including walking. They make having to go for a pee when you're halfway up a hill, or on a coastal route in the middle of nowhere, so much easier! As, in my experience, you may THINK there's no one else around for miles - but as soon as your arse is uncovered for a pee a head appears over the horizon!!!

ginislife · Yesterday 13:02

No suggestions but I’m another one going inter railing this summer- age 65 ! I’ve discovered SHEIN having avoided it forever and bought loads off there. Some will be returned. Enjoy your travels.

Icebreaker and Barbour do travel clothing that can be stylish enough.
