Hello everyone, well it's officially summer.

This is about feeling better about yourself and looking and feeling better etc. But mainly we chat and laugh quite a lot, which has all got to help towards happiness etc.

The rules (anyone can join):

  • Sunscreen at all times - REALLY mean this now summer is here.
  • No or little booze. Wine or Champagne or whatever at the weekend is allowed if you want it
  • Walking is important, a small amount every day if possible. 30 mins if you can
  • Lots of water, aim for 2 litres a day
  • Apply body cream as often as possible
  • Use hand cream
  • Go to bed early, by 10.30pm if pos
  • Eat healthily
  • Be happy

The idea is that we all feel happier, healthier and glow with the good food, sleep, exercise, water and lack of sun damage.

Some people are doing India and Neris's Idiot Proof Diet (Atkins, more or less), others are doing Slimy World, others are just being as healthy as possible.

Welcome everyone, have a good week.

Ooh, have gazed from afar at these threads.
It's time I took myself in hand.
It will be the water intake and early bedtimes that will test me.

Cod, well, I have lost 1stone 4lbs in the last 6 weeks so it's working for me.

I don't drink in the week, do use sunscreen at all times, drink 2 litres min water a day blah blah.

I love that you have to hide this every week and are forced to see it in active convs until you have, ha ha. !

I've lost over a stone in recent months.

And wtf would I want to be at aintree in a maxi dress?

unknownrebelbang · 22/06/2008 17:42

Anyway, haven't you hidden us yet?

noddyholder · 22/06/2008 17:46

When all is said and done its genetis You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 22/06/2008 18:03

I'm drinking much less because of bootcamp. And I've joined the gym.

So there [sticks tongue out]!

And my dads bigger than your dad!

eemie · 22/06/2008 18:22

Up at 5.30 with puppy;

Knocked ourselves out getting house ready for a viewing this morning, ('No, they can only view on Sunday, they have a lot of other commitments')and then the people didn't show and didn't let us know;

Raced off to choir rehearsal without lunch, then had cake to make up energy deficit (strenuous work, singing Bach);

Now got chance to relax in sunshine and have luxurious bath.

Happy summer

Marina · 22/06/2008 19:55

Good weekend foodwise, shared bottle of rose with dh on Sat night but otherwise no booze, tearing about both days to keep all church/school/hair/aged parent/tennis/swimming balls in the air, but no real exercise apart from that - honestly no time. Am bushed.
Water - check
Cream - check
Bedtime - still a work in progress
Dad likely to be sprung on Tuesday. Dd, who currently longs to be a nurse, was allowed to "help" put a dressing on grandpa's leg scar today (did I say the staff at St Thomas are wonderful?). Astonishing to think that his ribcage was spread wide, he has a massive wound down his front, his heart was stopped and restarted, but what hurts most is the site where they took the veins from his well-travelled old pins.
Will be maxing up the walking etc this week, am hoping to shift plenty more kg before SIL's wedding. Have to shop for outfit...so far have one pair of Spanx and that's it.
Good luck on Tuesday prufrock and have a good week all

Batters - blimey. That is more than seven stone! Brilliant. And if these threads have been even a teeny tiny part of that then long may they continue and hopefully inspire others to follow your lead.

Marina - chuffed that your Dad will soon be home. Will he have to have follow-up care from District Nurses? Good luck with clothes hunting; have you considered the personal shopper route? Might take some of the stress out of it and as it is for a specific event should be fairly straightforward.

Ureb - well done on the stone(+)!

WWW - how has DS been over the w/e? Have had many a teary moment after outbursts from DD (liking her a lot this w/e but not enough to listen to her John Barrowman CD. I know my limits!).

Saggars - how goes the gym? I need to crank up my attendance again as I have slacked off whilst DH has been unavailable in the evenings. Bloody socialite. I still see the trainer and am going to ask her to push me this week. I need to see how much I have improved my fitness and whether to renew or not (not telling her that obviously).

This thread definitely helps me along the path of living well. I have lost very little weight but my shape has changed enormously - have even worn vest tops in public which is a first for me.
DH away again so must now remove my prune-like DC from the bath and have an early night.

Cammelia · 22/06/2008 20:48

This is my favourite thread on mumsnet and even when I haven't been posting on it I have often read it.

I have been eating quite healthily most of the time, I usually produce healthy family meals on which dh and dd stay lovely and slim, bright -eyed and bushy tailed.

My current problem is hormones which are making it hard to lose weight.

I know exercise is the key but have had to stop all the step aerobics and stuff I did until about a year ago because I need to protect my knee joints now I'm past a certain age.

I think swimming and low impact aerobics is the answer , just need to factor in more time for them.

Because I have done huge amounts of exercise all my life (and could always eat what I wanted) I'm finding it easy to put on weight for the first time in my life so really want to fight this!

Marina · 22/06/2008 21:06

That's the problem with swimming and low impact stuff Camm - it's blissful but time-consuming. I used to spend trancelike hours powering up and down the local pool before I had the gruesome twosome, sigh.
Thanks for all the shopping tips ladies, I'll try Elvi asap batters. I keep looking longingly at some of the stuff on Phase Eight, and I think that's for NEXT summer. As is the Personal Shopper thing yoyo - me, batters and www are going to Do Selfridges Big Time when we all hit target (anyone else welcome too).
I do need nork assistance though as I think my bras are too big now.
Dad will have zero care as of course St T's is not his local hospital. I expect his GP practice (ours too and a bigger shower of bare minimum eejits I have yet to encounter ) will be their usual inefficient selves about following up.
Must go downstairs and talk to wan and sulky man alleging he is my dh. Can barely remember what he looks like

eemie · 22/06/2008 21:22

I love swimming but apparently walking's much better for yer bones when you get to a certain age (the age I'll be getting to on Tuesday, actually).

Hi Marina, hope you're bearing up as well as you seem to be. Did you hear the early music show? And Robert Hollingworth doing the King's Singers 40th? Missed everything good this week and can't bear 'listen again' atm because the sound's gone all weird on computer.

Batters, wonderful to hear of your success. I feel so much better than I did a week ago, just having made the decision to take better care of myself.

Enjoy your early night everyone

WideWebWitch · 22/06/2008 21:30

Marina, that's lovely that your dad's coming out on Tuesday, fab.

Noddyholder at sows ear comment

Eemie the puppy sounds v tiring. and how annoyig and rude of the people not to turn up.

Welcome BetteNoire, great name!

Batters, ooh a weekend in the country, how lovely! Your weight loss is so impressive. Will take your advice re bras then and go to R&P at some point, thanks.

Dr Who was indeed fab and next week has Jack and Gwen and ooh it looks exciting. I must say Catherine Tate has grown on me as Donna.

Yoyo, ds has been fine the rest of the weekend but that didn't half spoil our Friday, sorry your dd has been tough too. I read the "I'm not enjoying being the parent of a teenager " thread earlier and it SCARED me. Vest tops v impressive, haven't worn one of those since I was about 14!

Camm, nice to see you

Marina- think about personal shopping in Debenhams for the wedding outfit - they will do a 1hr session to find a specific outfit and they do have a wide range of stuff - and it's cheap enough that you can get something that it won't really matter if you can't wear it again because it's too big! It's much nicer than shopping by yourself because they will bring accessories, extra sizes etc, you get to sit in big air-conned changing room with drinks, and there really isn't any pressure to buy.

Batters - do you want to come up here in 3 weeks- my villagers are going to be getting all excited about an "it's a Knockout" competition on the village green, followed by a swing band! (actually I shouldn't mock too much as we have John Otway performing on the Wednesday night as part of our week long village feast)

WideWebWitch · 22/06/2008 21:36

This weekend has been good from an eating pov, I haven't remotely strayed from I&N and didn't even drink that much (we opened Champagne last night but only drank half of it, what a WASTE as it won't be any good next we and I won't drink it tonight or during the week, obv, neve mind) but am slightly disappointed that I haven't lost any more. I keep repeating to myself "weight loss isn't linear" as per I&N and thinking of my next goal for next hairdresser appt. I may stay off wine until we go away for dh's birthday, we'll see how I feel on Friday. I think I must try to walk more this week, so that's my goal.

today
bacon and eggs
spinach salad with bacon and avocado, chorizo, cambozola, smoked cheese
2 sausage and egg muffins

probably not enough water, do find it harder to remember at home
no sunscreen but haven't left house
happy ish
Have a good week everyone.

John Otway! Of "Really free" fame? Bless him!

Will you be coming home again on Tues Prufrock or will you be away for a night?

Good suggestion about Debenhams or John Lewis will do the same but Debs is cheaper.

Saturday I had an ice cream at dd's gym display (she was a very cute caterpillar doing forward rolls through hoops) and a huge curry, but only 1/2 bottle of wine, which was especially moderate given my mother was here.
Today I had a cooked breakfast, and then bbq @ my parents, and 2 helpings of delicious dime bar cheesecake, and am about to finish curry. But no booze, and I've just done a 50 minute gym session.
EJ doesn't make me wear a heart rate monitor because she doesn't let me get away with doing cardio with her. I have to box, or do sit ups with her sitting on my feet, or lift v. heavy weights with her yelling at me that I can do one more. But she's really v. lovely.
www - are you sure you aren't a DD+? You do know that most women are in a bra that is 2 cup sizes too small and 2 back sizes too big? Once you have had your proper fitting, try the fig leaves website - they often have great sales.
I will indeed need new bras, but for 3 weeks I have to wear these horrendous soft cup things. and at night as well for 3 weeks after that. So if anyone wants any slightly worn bra's, 30G, let me know.
