It’s so gorgeous:

For the reception I haven’t decided, but possibly a dress from here:

Ho hum - I’ll have to hit the apps. 😄

(Very sorry, I don’t have a question.)

It gives me an evil nurse in a surreal dream sequence vibe for some reason. The Exorcist 3 meets Valerie and Week of Wonders, which is certainly a vibe, and a vibe that I could never pull off at that, but it would be boring if we all like the same thing.

BunnyLake · 19/05/2026 10:43

‘Bride’ looks thrilled to be wearing it.

Nurse Ratchett would probably marry in it.

I'll just leave this here.

Oh my - I need to get married so I can wear this!
selffellatingouroborosofhate · 19/05/2026 11:03

You'd need to change for the reception because there's no way that you are eating in a dress that has boned sleeves.

zanahoria · 19/05/2026 11:04

Just wear it down the pub

Aposterhasnoname · 19/05/2026 11:05

Oh my, thats... interesting. Can you imagine rocking up to a wedding and the bride is wearing that. Trying to keep a straight face after a glass or three of champagne while telling her she looks gorgeous and you simply love her dress,

SnowFrogJelly · 19/05/2026 11:11

You think that’s gorgeous?!

lunarpossum · 19/05/2026 11:13

I think these are marvellous - textural and theatrical!
You would get some interesting photographs, especially playing with lighting to capture the silhouettes and texture.

This is fashion as art, not bland high-street fashion. Heaven forbid someone might laugh at you for having a different style to their preference.
Many moons ago at uni, I remember a fellow student getting the cold shoulder by others because he had a onesie that he would wear to relax in in Halls. It was very nice and had been made by himself, or a member of his family. I was really impressed by his individual style but it did attract a lot of unnecessary and mean comments - one year later and onesies had hit primark and all the bullies were sporting them.

Quite a few miseries on this thread, it's ok to have fun with fashion! Embrace the eccentric OP!

JaneJeffer · 19/05/2026 11:16

It seems there is a fine line between art and fancy dress.

LatteLady · 19/05/2026 11:19

Gosh, the D&B has dragged me back to an outfit I purchased in the early 1980s... a fabulous, high necked ruffed blouse with Leg of Mutton sleeves, buttons up the cuff with an opening across the left shoulder, teamed up with a pair of grey tweed trousers... sadly not from D&B, but C&A, but my God, that outfit pulled its weight and was my go to outfit that Winter, I even remember wearing it for Christmas day... sighs.

ThisCandidMintGoose · 19/05/2026 10:29

surely time and a place?

I don't know any men wearing business casual who suddenly start scaling the office building 😂. Many of us don't do anything "practical" most days that can't be done in a dress.

In business casual you can climb a tree if you have too. Harder in a long or narrow skirt.

It's more the stupid sleeves that dip into the sink or crumple uncomfortably under a jumper, or the shoes that hobble you.

I don't mind wearing an impractical outfit for a special event, but daily life for me demands practicality.

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 11:27

😽@lunarpossum!

Though I don’t see that particular dress as eccentric.

OP, I sympathise with your clothes-related regrets. I lent my glorious Afghan jacket to a nephew, who left it somewhere. That was decades ago, and I can still see its lovely swirly flower patterns ...

I was going to suggest you should buy the dress anyway and wear it for fun. Maybe have it dyed a different colour. Then I realised how much it’s likely to cost. So hit those apps and marry a millionaire!

Wheresthebeach · 19/05/2026 11:29

They look comical and absurd. Genuinely awful. Women dressed as clowns and jokers.

<Sighs>

I was hoping to encounter a fellow enthusiast who would recognise the continuum from Droopy & Browns to Cawley Studio. It was not to be …

I remember Droopy's!

OVienna · 19/05/2026 11:31

@RegularFrankieFan Valerie and Week of Wonders
Oh my days, have found my people!

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 11:44

I have not the slightest clue what you’re talking about, @OVienna- but I’m glad whatever it is has made you happy!

It's a film and a book. I commented that the dress would not look out of place in the film.

It not fair either to refer to people as miseries just cos that think an outfit is awful

monicagellerbing · 19/05/2026 12:05

The website is absolutely batshit. If someone wore this for their wedding they’d be laughed out of the venue and quite possibly sectioned

Oh my - I need to get married so I can wear this!
Tocsin · 19/05/2026 12:14

But you could wear that jacket without the headgear and with a straight skirt, and look perfectly lovely, @monicagellerbing.

And someone else might wear the trousers with a shrunken t shirt and ballet flats for a relaxed evening out.

I’m confident the designers don’t expect buyers to take every stylised photograph literally, or to wear the clothes exactly as shown.

But it’s fine if they don’t appeal to everyone.

lornad00m · 19/05/2026 12:16

£2000? Fort that? It would certainly be a 'choice'.

And for the groom perhaps this little number ...

Uricon2 · 19/05/2026 12:19

A very Sitwell vibe to some of them I think.

There are some lovely fabrics in the wedding section and I like a couple of the designs but mostly, no, I cannot visualise who would get married in the Andy Pandy pantalette suit above or the Nurse Rached ensemble. (I've still got a Droopy's silk tweed jacket that is great quality and I live in hope one day I will get back into it.)

ImImmortalNowBabyDoll · 19/05/2026 12:20

I may not be a fashion expert, but I know an ugly dress when I see one.
