It’s so gorgeous:

For the reception I haven’t decided, but possibly a dress from here:

Ho hum - I’ll have to hit the apps. 😄

(Very sorry, I don’t have a question.)

The dress is hideously crumpled too - you'd think they would have steamed it for the shoot. Imagine how rumpled you'd look after a limo ride to the venue. It does irritate me when designers don't consider such things.

<Sighs>

I was hoping to encounter a fellow enthusiast who would recognise the continuum from Droopy & Browns to Cawley Studio. It was not to be …

I considered Droopy & Browns frump central when I was a young'un in Edinburgh in the 80s. For the older, wealthy woman, not the fun and fashion forward.

Ruthietuthie · 19/05/2026 12:32

As Tim Gunn used to say, "If that's the look that you were going for you've certainly got it."

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 12:34

I was more early 90s D&B. With lots of money to spend on clothes!

Why would elderly and wealthy exclude being fun and fashion forward, though?

It would if you shopped at Droopy & Browns!

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 12:39

🤷‍♀️ I was young back then …

Sigh, I was late 20s then and couldn't afford it. Wish I had just blown my budget

The website is absolutely batshit. If someone wore this for their wedding they’d be laughed out of the venue and quite possibly sectioned

I think that's beautiful too.

PersephoneSmith · 19/05/2026 12:52

Are you baiting us OP? That’s hideous 😆

changedusername190 · 19/05/2026 13:00

I’m sure we had a fake Barbie/ Christmas angel from Poundland that was wearing that.dress. Luckily she didn’t have legs so escaped the wonderful shoes.

ClockGoesBack · 19/05/2026 09:48

👆This x100.

I mean, come on…

The shoes 🤢

NettleTea · 19/05/2026 13:08

some of them are wonderful and some may look better in the lived flesh rather than the odd poses. love the hats and the big oilskin stuff.

some are definately not my style now, but I would have possible worn them if I was alot younger and thinner

SliceofTosst · 19/05/2026 06:15

Looks like air is being blown up the sleeves and have wire in them.

Looks like a cross between a lab coat and a straitjacket!

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 13:14

As to who might wear Cawley Studio clothes - there’s a Radio 4 program on this afternoon on 19/20th century female gardeners. I’d say the daywear is exactly how they might have dressed if they’d been around now.

As a gardener in the 90s my gardening wardrobe was mostly from the farm shop + partner’s cast off tweeds, and I may sometimes have mixed those things with D&B stuff.

You can think what you want about an outfit privately. However many have decided to comment to shit on someone's joy about an outfit. Notice how the OP didn't actually ask for anyone's actual opinion in her original post - they were just sharing an outfit that they loved.
This could have been a joyful, celebratory thread about interesting clothes and why we like them.

Miserable behaviour.

SevenYellowHammers · 19/05/2026 13:24

I mean the thing that your eye is drawn to isn’t the dress but the miserable model.

lunarpossum · 19/05/2026 13:25

Sidebeforeself · 19/05/2026 12:05

It not fair either to refer to people as miseries just cos that think an outfit is awful

Well, I’m quite open to comments and opinions, @lunarpossum. It would be a very quiet thread otherwise. (And I’ve had much worse reactions on other threads I’ve started!)

What I don't understand is, if OP you are someone fabulous enough to wear such a bold standout dress, and to really really love it, why would you ever take it off?! And put something else on for the reception. There's only really one occasion you could wear that dress (wedding) but the dresses on the other site you could wear to all sorts of functions. Never understood 2 dresses for a wedding. I had a big tulle ball gown and I even slept in it 😄 (and other wedding night stuff) I never wanted to take it off as I knew there was nothing I could ever wear it to again :(

I hope you find the man of your dreams to enable you to wear the dress (or 2) of your dreams!

HellonHeels · 19/05/2026 13:34

I bloody love some of those bridal designs!

My thought was - does Grayson Perry shop there? I think people would laugh?

Yep, this is Grayson Perry, or alternatively Annabelle the doll.

worldshottestmom · 19/05/2026 13:55

I mean, at least it isn't as bad as that D&G wafer ham dress that someone else posted recently

Well, quite. The rudeness.

Augarden · 19/05/2026 14:54

Is it like a flex to dress as hideously as possible, like "I am so beautiful I can even wear this horrible dress"? Just trying to understand. 😂😂😂
