It’s so gorgeous:

For the reception I haven’t decided, but possibly a dress from here:

Ho hum - I’ll have to hit the apps. 😄

(Very sorry, I don’t have a question.)

The sleeves lost me, unfortunately. I am just getting over barrel jeans, not ready for barrel sleeves.

I hadn't heard of Cawley, but absolutely love every single item in the bridal gallery!!! Now fantasising about working some of the veils and that gorgeous skirt into my everyday wardrobe...

Me too! The veils are fabulous.

The red MB ones are gorgeous!

DroopyDress · 19/05/2026 07:58

I thought Droopy &Brown!
I got married in one their dresses in 1999 and had other bits which never got worn enough due to married life being more drudge than party.
My kids wear it now. The dress went to prom and looked great. Like 1880 novel, everyone assumed we'd gone to London.
I think my imaginary lifestyle would make that dress work. Love it.

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 07:04

But I genuinely would love the first dress for a civil ceremony (if I hadn’t got round to saving up for vintage Dior or McQueen, which I probably wouldn’t have). It’s weird to think strangers seeing me going in or out would be thinking how dreadful I looked. Despite how delighted I’d be with my image in the mirror.

I think you’d probably look a bit more cheerful than that photo, which would help! And it would probably also suit your style, which those invited would understand

Picklechamp · 19/05/2026 08:12

I think these are fabulous and I’d be thrilled to be invited to a wedding where the bride wore one of these dresses.

daffydreams · 19/05/2026 08:13

Miss Havisham is that ypu?

Purplecatshopaholic · 19/05/2026 08:15

The Frill Mini could look great with heels and great headpiece, jewels etc. Cawley defo have err, interesting styling choices.

The shoes (and styling in general) make the frill mini considerably worse, I agree…

I love you, @PleaseAccepyMyUserNames!😅 Have you looked at the non-bridal wear on the rest of the site? Click Ready to Ship and Made to Order.

@DroopyDress … You must have looked wonderful! I would have worn Droopy & Browns to my wedding in the 90’s - but we broke up. I bought a good few things - they were magnificent for swishing around the countryside and the local city. (Did I store every piece carefully for posterity? I did not. I’m ready to weep every time I remember my own stupidity.)

Another Droopy bride here 😊 Happy memories!

TheyGrewUp · 19/05/2026 08:22

@Tocsin I.loved Droopy & Brown late 80s/90s. A dress and jacket was no. 2 in my shortlist for the day. I had a couole of other frocks from there that were endlessly useful. However, I cannot see the continuum from Droopys into Cawleys.

Paradoxically, DD is getting married next summer, isn't a traditional beauty and I can see her both liking and wearing the Heidi frock - because she's quirky.

Yippityyoi · 19/05/2026 08:22

The Magda Butrym dresses are amazing! Eye-watering prices sadly, however I'd rather wear one of their party dresses than spend more on a conventional wedding dress. I have mentally spent many 1000's on the dresses I have seen so far! Sigh!

The white wedding dress is not my style personally however you have to wear what you really want to wear when you marry!

Tocsin · 19/05/2026 08:27

You’re very fortunate, @Shangrilalala!

@VerbenaGirl - I generally abhor flounces, but what MB does is breathtaking. I’m in my mid-sixties and feel I’m just about ready to wear such majestic clothes.

The only route to this is via billions of ££ on classes to completely upgrade my knees - but it would be worth it. Fortunately the tops and dresses are just made for my vast expanse of shoulder.

However I cannot see the continuum from Droopys into Cawley Studio

Interesting! Not even the daywear, @TheyGrewUp? For me it’s the crunchy fabrics and the devil-may-care romance and grandeur of it all. The I want to live my life in the most fabulous clothes possible attitude. It just grabs my heart.

Also in the nineties I had a floor length, scarlet, cotton/linen skirt with a bustle at the back from Dries van Noten. I wore it once, to an Aldeburgh Festival concert, and then life got complicated and it was left behind somewhere … (When I die, all my regrets will be lost clothes related.)

Are there any brands you think do compare to D&P?

Oh dear. Take away the veil and the outfit makes her look like a deranged nurse from a Wes Anderson film.

SignGrudgeBluebook · 19/05/2026 08:42

That model in that dress looks like a child drew her.

Picasso, as a child.

I (still) have a Droopy and Browns tweed jacket which I bought because of the emerald silk lining. It is up there with the most expensive things I have ever bought. A house, a car , a Jacket…….

Such an imaginative shop.

SignGrudgeBluebook · 19/05/2026 08:43

Heidi dress? Just hide would suffice.

Sarah Coggles in York used to do some extraordinary dresses as part of the collection too. A day out shopping in York wasn’t complete without a visit there and then off to D&B. Wish they were both still around, although I am a little more pared down these days.

Maybe this chap could use something like it?

This has reminded me of the time I spotted an ad in the newspaper (yes Im going back some years!)

For sale. A droopy, brown wedding dress…

Me and my sister were crying laughing.

PriscillaQueenoftheKitchen · 19/05/2026 08:53

Hideous all of them. A case of the Emperor's new clothes in all but the fact they are not invisible. Just over priced and shite.
