What should I wear to a black tie celebrity wedding?

A friend is getting married in NYC later this year. The dress code is black tie. The venue has not been disclosed and will not be disclosed until the day of the event to avoid media attention as they are within the celebrity sphere (I know them through family and am very much not from this world)
Any advice on something suitably glamorous given there may be a few A listers present and I don’t want to look out of place? I’m 5’7, size 8-10. Budget not really an issue

I think this is classy, appropriate and a lovely shade for Autumn. There is also a short sleeved version. Totally glamorous with no froth at all!

I'm glad you said there was a short-sleeve version, as I was having a hard time visualising the first one on! It's striking in a low-key way. Another American designer though, albeit a more out-there quirky one.

It's a beautiful print & colour. Though the drawstring bit above the bum could be a little odd ...!

Quite a few of their dresses would probably suit both the occasion & the OP's colouring (I really love the navy & rust silk print, the sage & copper, & the black & bronze too).

But it's another US brand & rather recognisable too? It's seen around quite a bit due to its's relative affordability?

But that's just the type of fabric, which means it's weighty & has a stiffness like taffeta, but with a satin finish (I assume). It doesn't state the composition - which would once always have been silk. But now it's usually polyester, or nylon, or a blend ... much cheaper to make, especially in such a full-skirted dress as this.

Whereas somewhere like H&M now supplies detailed info like this:

I was talking to a celebrity last week about what to wear to the Cannes Film Festival. If you're a normal person you go strictly black tie. If you're a celebrity you can wear whatever you want. The more flamboyant the better!

So it depends on if you want to look like a normal person or a celebrity?

I don't think that's quite true? It's more relaxed at other red-carpet events - but Cannes was notorious until quite recently for its requirement that women wore heels! And they recently reinforced their dress rules, including a nudity/near-nude clothing ban (the sort of thing that Kanye West's wife, Bianca Censori, wore to the Grammys).

Of course she’s not! They’re going to huge lengths to keep it secret, she will have been sworn to secrecy!
