What's good in M&S right now?

Live quite rurally so don't often get the chance to shop physically - always online. Tomorrow I'm going to a fairly large M&S. Would love to see what, if anything, people rate there. Open to any suggestions.

That’s a really lovely jacket ❤️

SavageGarden23 · 09/05/2026 17:15

@AppleDumplingWithCustard frilly and ruffled is something that I am expecting everywhere as runway style dictates fashion for next season. Thats why flowy satin trousers and satin jackets with high collars are being sold. Dreary colours is another matter that can't be helped, truly uninspiring

ReallyOtter · 09/05/2026 17:29

Period pants.
Wire free bras.

MumAsYouAre · 09/05/2026 18:02

A lot of really lovely jeans. I’ve just bought some very pale pink barrel legs which I’m loving.

Caniweartheseones · 09/05/2026 18:13

Always wonder if these repeated M&S messages are an advertising scheme to distract from the fact that it’s awful quality now and the majority is made of carcinogenic recycled plastic.

Body by M&S underwear - 5 stars, excellent 👏

Did you need to size up? I tried these and they were a odd fit.

Sickofmodernworld · 09/05/2026 22:35

While millions go to food banks you humble brag about a trip.to an overpriced supermarket. Go and enjoy it without the Mumsnet parade.

No, I got my normal size, although I don’t have very wide hips (a fair old mum tum though 😂)

BlueberryMill · 10/05/2026 00:19

I know you're looking for clothing, but have a look at the food bit. I love it

You'll be relieved to know that low-slung trousers & skirts have taken over on the catwalks & fashion pages ...

My stomach is not ready for it & will NOT be participating ... 😬!!!

I actually find lower or mid cut jeans more flattering as the top is on my caesarean tummy shelf and disguises it. Whereas in high waisted jeans all I see is a denim bulge.

I don't know if anyone else has chimed in on this but I've got the black ones and 'sand' ones in these as they're just so gooooood. They're so wide so they're a bit like a skirt almost but with a better cut around the waist, if that even makes sense. I've been dressing the black one up for events and have the sand ones for our summer holiday. So versatile, flattering, and comfortable! Fit wise I'm in between and sized down as the back is elasticated.

I have a couple of very wide long flared trousers that look good even on me as a short arse - but I wear them rarely as I’m too clumsy and forever tripping on them or catching my heel. I goggle in wonder at the ladies travelling in very wide fit long trousers. I’d definitely catch my shoe and plummet down the aeroplane steps!!!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 10/05/2026 02:30

I found the barrel leg cotton rich trousers instore , I am usually a Reg length in M&S , these are a tiny bit long but I reckon they can be rolled up .
Went for the brown, I did like the pink but I'd keep them clean for less than 30 minutes .

(Ordered online as they didn't have my size in brown)

suburburban · 10/05/2026 07:35

I gave up with M&S jeans and agree about sizing.

I tried on the barrel jeans yesterday. So disheartening. I wear an 18 now in the Eva or the wide, but the barrel at a 20 hugged my belly so badly.

I hate barrel legs!! I like H&M cigarette trousers which are light cotton. I take up the hem to make them ankle length and iron out the front crease to make more casual flat fronted. They are flattering mid rise. Great with ankle boots or ballet flats.

There’s a straight leg crop Jean in marks just now which is more flattering even if high waisted. Can’t remember the name but gets top reviews. I bought in cream.

I just don't think they suit my shape. They were really tight across the crotch area and I had to struggle to get them over my hips. Winter trousers are fine 🤷‍♀️

boatyardblues · 10/05/2026 08:27

I ordered one of the tops recommended upthread, in two sizes. In both sizes the armholes are huge and too deep. So huge in both sizes that all of my bra band is visible if I raise my arms, with added side boob in the larger size. The size that fits is also too short in the body for me and the next size up is like a sack. It’s the style in this photo.

@EvelynBeatrice do you mind linking to the h&m ones

EvelynBeatrice · 10/05/2026 08:39

Ah I can’t sorry. Just google hand m women cigarette trousers. They’re only £22.99 and in 5 colours.

Gettingbysomehow · 10/05/2026 08:46

I was in there yesterday trying on all the shoes but I felt they were rather overpriced.
I bought a lovely dark green heavy weight oversized t-shirt for £15. The sleeves come down to the elbow and cover my weight loss upper arms, and a white slim fit sleeveless T to go under a crochet top.

I think this jacket is fabulous, but am so annoyed they’re only selling it in this one - surely quite tricky for many? - colour. Every time I walk through the store, I want it, but that colour and me are not friends.😆

I've got one from Sainsbury's, £25. 'Stone cropped linen shaket' - different colours including that green!

Edited to remove rubbish link.

I look horrible in knaki next to my face. Makes me look pasty. Trousers are ok. Lovely jacket though.

PiglingBlandings · 10/05/2026 09:27

I ordered the linen trousers and they’re perfect in length and waist and everything - thank you! Wider silhouette than I usually go for but I look more modern as a result!
