It’s hard to tell because you’ve (understandably) taken a pic that doesn’t reveal your face. A dramatic cut will always feel a bit weird at first but I think it looks pretty cool. You’ve got nice hair and can pull off a wolf cut. I’d live with it a bit and test it out in public before doing anything else.

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 19:11

I’ll definitely wash it again in the morning, straighten it as I normally would and then see what I’m working with
Does anyone think this hair do would be a realistic ‘correction’?

This is a LOT shorter ...

Given that you had waist length hair I'm guessing you haven't got a regular stylist.
How did you pick the stylist that did this cut?!

I would advise asking a friend whose hair looks well cut who she goes to, then book an appointment with them for a consultation. If you're happy with what they suggest, go ahead with a restyle cut.

Depending on how much this cut cost you, I might ask for a refund from the original salon, but they would probably want an opportunity to put it right too.

Good luck!

Not yet. I’m wondering what the hell to do next. I’ve been out all day (looking like this 😂), then come home and had a closer look. Do you think I should go back or cut (lol) my losses and go to a different salon?

Definitely a different salon in these situations, preferably one recommended by someone who has similar hair to yours.
You have such lovely hair that there will be several cuts to suit it and your face. I'd ask a stylist to recommend something, and don't be shy of going as short as necessary, because it will grow and you may be pleasantly surprised by how nice it looks.

Ooh, I've got one just like that from Tu!

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 18:56

This is how it was styled by the stylist so I’m thinking the curls hid a multitude of sins! Ahh

Interesting observation. I have naturally curly hair. My hairdresser always dries it straight so she can double check the cut. She'll pop some iron curls in at the end. So I'd tend to agree what you are thinking.

Did you have inspo pics or ask for such heavy layering?

k1233 · 17/03/2026 21:55

Just read you adked for a wolf cut, so yes that is heavily layered. Good to see it's looking ok after you've washed it.

HamBap · 17/03/2026 22:31

I thought it looked like a wolf cut then read that it was, you got what you asked for, just needs styling. I like it and your hair is a great colour!

SeenYourArse · 17/03/2026 22:41

I’m a hairstylist with 20 years experience, this is just a BAD cut no two ways about it. It’s full of mistakes and incorrect angles, disconnection and accidental chinks missing. The salon mananger needs to be shown this cut as it’s not acceptable and the stylist shouldn’t be charging for work like this. You need either the cut fixing as best as possible and then a free restyle again once it’s grown out enough in about 10 weeks (neither by the original stylist!) OR a full refund, your choice!

Charlize43 · 17/03/2026 22:42

Wigs seem to be making a comeback.

Incidentally, why is there a big angled chunk missing from the side? Did you ask for that?

DinoLil · 17/03/2026 22:46

@Hairhelpasap The angles you've taken the photos show layers and if you tip your head forward then they will be clearly newly cut. Especially with new layers.

I was upset when I went from long to shoulder length hair as I did in October. Not for the first time.

It's a bit of a shock for now but, fwiw, it looks just fabulous.

Btw I cut my fringe over the weekend. Let's just say I shall be smiling and waving!

You look great and have beautiful hair.

Shoemadlady · 17/03/2026 22:51

This is awful. You need to complain as you won’t be the only one she’s butchered. I’m so sorry that’s gonna be a nightmare to grow out 😢

N0ChildrenYet · 17/03/2026 22:53

I think because you’re looking down, the longer bits of your fringe are falling in front of the shorter bits so looks worse than it is? You haven’t styled it (by the looks of it) so I think you just need to style it into shape?

I would try styling it with something for shaggy hair to get that ruffled look like in your inspo pics (so like straighten and then ruffle with a wax or powder and then set with a light hairspray if you need to) or curl and set?) Hopefully it will look fine once you’ve styled it and fixed it into place but I can totally understand that it feels and looks weird to have your hair hacked at and when it’s an extreme style it’s even weirder. But in your inspo pics one of them has that longer piece of hair with the fringe so it might be a case of restyling and arranging into how you want it?

If you’re still not happy with it after doing that then I’d go back and ask for a refund/another stylist to maybe see what they can do? And try and find someone specialising in wolf cuts/shag hair. You need to be happy and comfortable and confident with your hair and I really do get how it can be after having so much cut off. At the end of the day, they need to be sure you’re happy with your hair

Giddykiddy · 17/03/2026 23:15

Oh OP - it's not good I'm afraid though you have lovely hair and the length really suits you.

researchers3 · 17/03/2026 23:20

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 19:22

I just don’t think I can walk about with such a noticeable chunk missing for so long. I feel like I’d rather have it cut even shorter than I was initially wanting, if it saves me having to try and disguise the bad cut for weeks on end

You could get extensions for that section?

outerspacepotato · 17/03/2026 23:24

I think you need to go to the salon and speak with the manager. That's a hack job and you should be refunded and your haircutter shouldn't be cutting hair. She's cut random chops into your hair and those bottom layers are really thin.

I'd gel my hair back for a few weeks or wear headscarves until it can be cut to one length.

ProcrastinatorsAnonymous · 17/03/2026 23:28

Just to say OP, you have stunning hair! Thick and shiny and a gorgeous colour. You're right about the cut - they've done a terrible job - but it shouldn't take long to grow to the point where you can make it a long bob, and it looks like it will be a stunning long bob!

I'd try to get some money back from the original salon, then put that towards a tidy up at the best salon in your area - see if they can re-shape it a little to help it grow out. Or - just accept you're wearing it up for 12 weeks or so (which will become easier and easier as it grows) and then try again somewhere else.

shuggles · 17/03/2026 23:40

@Hairhelpasap Maybe I'm blind, but what's the issue?

Well how am I supposed to understand what others are saying in relation to the hair? I'm not a hairdresser.

I'm just looking at the photographs and I'm not sure what's wrong.

TheSunjustcameout · 18/03/2026 00:09

Ask for a full refund and never trust this person with your crowning glory again.

You have beautiful hair which will grow back.

ItsGooodToTalk · 18/03/2026 01:09

So sorry, OP. Your hair looks lovely and healthy, it's just the cut that needs addressing.
As a rule, I never let the hairdresser curl my hair - I always ask for it straight and sleek from the onset, so any colour / cut issues will be obvious.
I hope they offer to fix this for you.

BeardofHagrid · 18/03/2026 07:48

I actually think it’s because they cut it wet. My hairdresser does the same to me. Once it’s dry, I have bits sticking out all over the place 😭 We should bring back dry cuts.

The thread is a split between people that understand the cut and think it looks good and those who think its a dreadful job and OP needs to put a paper bag on her head

Most of it is right, but I still think the angle of the front is wrong, unless OP wants to tuck it behind her ears permanently.
