Im a lone voice here but that cut is very similar to my own, I ask for that, its completely disconnected and choppy. I dont have very thick hair though so it hangs more layered.

I like it OP

I would phone and ask to speak to a manager.. hopefully they’ll offer you to have you come in to show the issue and a free cut with their most senior stylist.

Wellthisisdifficult · 17/03/2026 19:39

You look like you have the same type of hair as me (even the same colour). I will say it’s an absolute nightmare to go for any cut apart from blunt bob or long with long layers. I’ve tried so many times over the years to have it styled. Exact same experience as you, looks great when I come out of the salon. Layers sticking everwhere when I wash it myself. Almost impossible to cut level because every movement makes it a different length.

My advice is if you can tie it up/pin back down this and grow out. Your hair needs more weight in it. Dont get it cut shorter. It will look worse and worse. Once it’s grown (I’m guessing it grows quickly esp at this time of year) get it evened up a bit. Stick to light long layers

thank you! A wolf cut is what I asked for, we spoke about how long I’d want it and the fact my hair is naturally wavy, but that I mostly wear it straight so a cut that would work for both. We agreed on just below shoulder length. I didn’t mind how short she went as it needed a good chop.
But there are some pieces that are about two inches short randomly dotted about, then the missing chunk, and then the long piece at the front she’s left in for some reason 😂

Oh Ive just seen your post, yes a wolf cut is what I have, which is what she did for you by the looks of it. Its ok not to be happy with it though, they'll do something different to reassure you.

MargotLovesTom · 17/03/2026 19:40

What does it look like when you tuck it behind your ears?

whatisheupto · 17/03/2026 19:43

Definitely DO NOT go back to the same salon to get it fixed!

ShipshapeShore · 17/03/2026 19:45

I quite like it! I think the cut is designed to be sort of pushed back off your face so you don't have that long bit at the front? I don't think it's awful, you can definitely work with it.

Thatcannotberight · 17/03/2026 19:46

Whatever they've done with the front is very wrong for a wolf cut. Did you have pictures of how you wanted the front to look? I took my 14yr old DS to my hairdresser recently and she did a brilliant shortish wolf cut( he's growing it) with a fringe and more layers on the top. He also has thick brown hair. I'd be mortified if she'd done that to him.

MiaKulper · 17/03/2026 19:47

Next time find someone who understands and can cut wavy hair. They are few and far between.

This.

Also, it's not even a wolf cut. How annoying for you.

MargotLovesTom · 17/03/2026 19:53

Tuck some of it behind your ears like this? But I agree with pp the front is wrong as most wolf cuts seem to have a fringe of some sort. The straight out of the salon style looks less like a wolf cut than what you have now! To me it looked too flat on the top then, and it looks like it has more volume now.

I mustn't be looking at the same pictures, as I think your hair is lovely and you look beautiful.

mdinbc · 17/03/2026 19:56

I would wash it and let it dry naturally. Really have a good look, by taking pieces from each side and seeing if they are the same length.

A good cut should fall naturally into a style with just a wash and wear and you shouldn't really see distinct layers. Take photos if it is still bad, then go back to the salon, but talk to the manager as well as the original stylist. Sorry you have had such a bad experience, but don't rush into a correction....

Moodlable4045 · 17/03/2026 19:59

Do you have naturally curly hair? I agree any hairdresser that sends you home with curly hair doesn’t have confidence in their cutting abilities! Maybe go to another hairdresser to get it tidied up. A reputable salon with good reviews from a specific stylist. The worst will grow out in 6 weeks ish and you’ll be able to think about a change, but if it’s really wonky then getting a pro to tidy it up is a good idea. And might help you to adapt to it. Also, you had long hair and you’ve had a lot taken off, so it will take a while to get used to the change either way.

Honestly in a few weeks you’ll feel much better about it all x

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 19:13

It does doesn’t it! Oh god. I don’t know whether to just ask for a straight up refund/partial refund or risk another cut from the same place. Or just go straight to another salon and ask if they can salvage whatever this hair do currently is.

Wolf cuts do often have a big step. Would take an experienced hairstylist to advise of whether it’s a correct wolf cut or poor cutting for your hair type. May be worth a consultation somewhere else to ask for a second opinion.

On what you can do, depends on whether the hairdresser works for the salon or is self-employed (renting a chair in the salon). If they work for the salon, suggest speaking to the salon owner/manager to rectify or offer a refund.

If they work for themselves, you wouldn’t want them trying to rectify, so ask them for a refund.

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 19:11

I’ll definitely wash it again in the morning, straighten it as I normally would and then see what I’m working with
Does anyone think this hair do would be a realistic ‘correction’?

Doubt you need to go that short. IMHO should be rectifiable by keeping to a longer length. But I’m not a professional hairstylist.

Shutuptrevor · 17/03/2026 20:05

I don’t think it’s as bad as all that! It does look wolfish to me. Did you show her any pics beforehand, so we can see what you were aiming for?

Honestly, I think a good wash, a straighten just to properly understand the layers and then re-curl it to style and you’ll be grand.

Aluna · 17/03/2026 20:05

I see your point, I think you need to keep curling it for the moment, it looked fine when styled by the cutter.

Flibberdigibbit · 17/03/2026 20:06

Short hair is just a lot more effort and takes a lot more styling. Speaking from bitter experience as I’m regrowing mine post chemo. I think you have to learn how to style it, and accept until it grows out that it’s unlikely to be as low effort as your long hair was. It’s great you have the flexibility to tie it up though, and I think it’s actually lovely!

mcmooberry · 17/03/2026 20:08

I think it and you look great and would swap with my thin difficult hair in a heartbeat.

MabelAnderson · 17/03/2026 20:11

Hairhelpasap · 17/03/2026 19:22

I just don’t think I can walk about with such a noticeable chunk missing for so long. I feel like I’d rather have it cut even shorter than I was initially wanting, if it saves me having to try and disguise the bad cut for weeks on end

Yes, in your place I would get a refund and go somewhere else to get it revised. Your hair will be shorter than you wanted, but you have really lovely hair, and it will grow quickly.

i was thinking the same as you i like it

EmeraldRoulette · 17/03/2026 20:13

@Hairhelpasap You asked for a shoulder length cut

that isn't shoulder length

And it's uneven - you should ask for a refund.

As a veteran of cutting my own hair, I would suggest that you just let it grow out. I have made mistakes on my shoulder length hair and that's usually the way to go - unless you're actually okay with a much shorter cut.

MissyMooPoo2 · 17/03/2026 20:15

BillieWiper · 17/03/2026 18:58

It's very choppy isn't it. Is it roughly what you asked for? But you've got lovely hair that looks quite thick. Give it a couple weeks it'll calm down so to speak.

The actual length I think is good and is flattering it's just the level of contrast in the choppiness is a bit harsh. But that's just because it's new.

Don't worry. As I say you've got really nice hair.

I agree - and the colour is lovely.
