Another wedding guest one sorry!!

I am part of the grooms family. I will be doing one church reading and will be in a few pictures. I bought this and loved it. But now I am thinking it is too much? I am a size 14, 5'6'' tall, my bum/ bust measurements are equal and my waist is defined. I'm 36

I think it’s not a good choice - the colour, the exposed shoulders (not because of church, because tacky) - you’d stick out, and not in a good way.

This thread could turn into a classic. It's hilarious.

Remember that English weddings are for Cinderella. Midnight or earlier and all gone to bed with a Horlicks. Things are only starting then at an Irish wedding.

Remember a jacket! Or a cardigan

Nah. Loada rubbish.
I asked opinions on a MOB dress and was told black meant i disapporoved of the marriage.
Who makes this stuff up?

Last wedding I was at the bridesmaids were wearing black Shock

And a mahoosive picnic basket in the car on the way, full of snacks in case of starvation before dinner is served.

Gorgeous. I love that.
My dd wanted it but the groom vetoed it. Bastard 🤣

On a phone, keep your finger on the letter needing the fada, it will show you options, pick the fada.

Oh I think people in England do get dressed for weddings. They just dress nicely.

Condescending and rude. As expected.

Granddaughter of an Irish Catholic here, red is an absolute no go for a church wedding unless you want all the elders referring to you as “that harlot”.

Card carrying actual Irish catholic here , “ the dress is perfect “ we’ve moved on a bit since your granda’s day and as a previous poster said “ as long as the priest can’t see your knickers or knockers you’re grand !! 😘

At my wedding (in England) most of the English guests (my lot) were thinking about heading home at midnight. DH's Irish family were just getting started and were still going strong hours later. It was great craic. The English lot who decided to stay had a brilliant time too, especially when the Irish dancing started, followed by the singing Grin

OP's dress is fine for a wedding in Ireland, the dressier the better here. Weddings are full-on glam, think evening wear during the day.

If you’re a 34J I’d be concerned about the bra situation in that dress.

I can’t see nothing about this dress that would mean a standard bra wouldn’t work?

tinaabbot · 16/03/2026 19:55

Another Irish person here, used to be Catholic, that is a lovely dress for an Irish wedding. Enjoy!!

AnSpideog · 16/03/2026 19:58

As an Irish person that is totally fine for a church wedding and you won’t stand out at all.

toswitchornottoswitch · 16/03/2026 20:03

Absolutely fine! I think you'll look lovely. X

Too much in my opinion. DD, DS and DIL have been regular wedding attendersnfor the last couple of years. I am pretty sure both dd and dil would think that inappropriate. We are England, CofE, and it woukd be regarded as too much. Too bright, too much flesh.

With respect, the words "England, CofE," conjure up conservative, repressed vibes. Not every country, or every church, is like that. No-one would turn a hair at a wedding guest wearing that here.

It's fine OP, if you like it, then wear it. MN generally has weird views on what is suitable for weddings and funerals - the world has moved on, MN posters often haven't.

NorthernDancer · 16/03/2026 20:13

Ach, you'll be grand OP

So you are saying that Irish people don't have standards?
