Another wedding guest one sorry!!

I am part of the grooms family. I will be doing one church reading and will be in a few pictures. I bought this and loved it. But now I am thinking it is too much? I am a size 14, 5'6'' tall, my bum/ bust measurements are equal and my waist is defined. I'm 36

Oh for god sake, stop thinking so highly of yourself.
There is nothing about misunderstanding a different culture and claiming this dress is inappropriate, with no actual experience of the country OP is asking about, that means you have “good manners”.

It’s ironic that it’s always the stuffy English posters talking about manners and standards while actually just being incredibly rude and a bit of an arse.

Apparently we don’t have manners either, despite the tone of every Irish comment being ‘you’ll be grand have a ball!’
And the English commends are full of “trashy” “harlot” and more derogatory words of that nature.

Sure it wouldn’t be like them to rewrite the narrative!

Doteycat · 16/03/2026 20:27

Its not bad manners to wear a fab dress. Or red. Or black.
Its bad manners to be really really fucking rude and up your own arse and look down your nose at people.

Indeed. The OP has had some really nasty comments framed in a very passive aggressive way by some posters, yet we are the ones who have no manners or standards because we don't agree with their way of dressing.

What was a really fun thread has descended into something very nasty and it wasn't from the Irish side.

Some posters are trying to be superior and puritanical, but in real life I bet they dangle from a tightrope naked with a whip in hand for the DH. 😂It's the hypocrites you have to keep an eye on....

Are you not embarrassed to be so openly rude?

damelza · 16/03/2026 20:37

Ignore the obvious shit stirrers. They are in post colonial crisis mode, and the Royal Family has let them down, God love them.

I’m Irish, living in Ireland, been to loads of Irish weddings and I think it’s perfectly suitable. Enjoy the wedding!!

I really like most of the dress, just not keen on the long sleeve bit. (I reckon that could be removed if you're not keen, otherwise great as it is). Add a nice long line blazer to it and lovely heels I think it would look great for the church and the party.

Signed a Scottish Catholic with tenuous Irish heritage and many Irish friends.

They would probably still have a sensible cardi on standby because they don't like to turn the heating up too high!

Yep just gonna ignore them.
I do love when a racist/xenophobe announces themselves.
Seen off worse than that we have.

Ironic the same people who generally criticise things as ‘American’ that are actually deep rooted in Irish history are hashing out a cliche “slept with the groom” line which is an American take which doesn’t even hold any standing there let alone England or Ireland.

You really weren't.

MrsArcher23 · 16/03/2026 20:56

Irish here. Perfect for a wedding in Ireland if you get a cover up against the chill. Colour is beautiful. You’re part of the groom’s family party, you can go all out, no worries.
Ignore the naysayers here, they probably haven’t danced a Siege of Ennis at 11pm or seen their other halves rolling up the legs of their trousers, wrapping their ties around their heads and dancing with their air guitars at 2am.

Staid, just the word you want describing your Irish wedding 😆

Charlize43 · 16/03/2026 21:21

I'm told Irish people love to drink...

I wouldn't wear an off the shoulder dress for church unless I had a jacket to go over it. But the red is fhe worst aspect imo. I saw some wedding photos recently (winter wedding) where the bridal party all had dark/muted colours apart from the MIL who stood out in all the photos because of her bright red dress.

It really ruined the look of the whole day.

Well that's not because mil wore red - it's because mil wore red when the rest of the bridal party were muted. At my winter wedding, mil's red outfit would have fitted beautifully. Unless you know what this particular wedding party are wearing, that experience is irrelevant.
