Another wedding guest one sorry!!

I am part of the grooms family. I will be doing one church reading and will be in a few pictures. I bought this and loved it. But now I am thinking it is too much? I am a size 14, 5'6'' tall, my bum/ bust measurements are equal and my waist is defined. I'm 36

Its a beautiful dress but being bright red it will definitely draw eyes to you and we all know all eyes should be on the bride. Id wear the dress but maybe in a different colour if possible?

ahsurelookit · 19/03/2026 19:46

I really like both of those and I think they would really suit me. I love the red pretty kitty one

The pretty kitty one is the nicest on the thread.

The phase 8 dress is nice but again with the ruffles.

Farrah2025 · 21/03/2026 06:34

Agreed the pretty kitty one would be stunning on you - the shape is Amazing and will me so flattering on a larger chest! I also really do like the original dress but it is a bit fussy in my view? I think you’ve made the right choice to keep looking and find something you really feel great in!

also from a “posh” part of Dublin 🤣🤣🤣🤣what are we like

Bolonese · 21/03/2026 12:44

I'm so invested in the OPs wedding outfit now. I've never put as much effort into anything I've worn myself! For what it's worth from a stranger on the internet, that Pretty Kitty red dress would be so fab on you! Might need some strappy heels and costume jewellery to jazz it up a bit. Bit of red lippy and you're good to go.

It sounds as though I’ve been to more Irish and church weddings than everybody else commenting and if you want to be a laughing stock go for it it’s not suitable.
If they make you stand on the end, you’ll know I was right 😜

Its a shame you have such personal issues that you felt it was ok to write that and not be embarrassed.
Some people just dont get the help they need these days.

And some people make a real show of themselves and whereas it might have been considered kind in the past to say nothing we now have the Internet to save us from such faux pax

And yours was no better and a personal attack so 🤷‍♀️

It's a very decent outfit for all Irish churches. I'd seen some insane outfits not just on guests but on brides... 😵‍💫 Also there's a giant trend about painting the skin orange and glue very fluffy fake eyelashes. 😂 I'm sure you wouldn't do that but you'll be amused.

JMAngel1 · 21/03/2026 20:03

For an Irish wedding it’s probably not dressy enough?

almay · 21/03/2026 20:35

Jesus this is nearly as bad as an Irish names thread!

Autumngirl5 · 21/03/2026 21:35

Sorry but I think it is too much and not very classy.

PissedOffAndStuck · 21/03/2026 21:48

I think you know your family and the context for the wedding better than anyone here so are best placed to judge.

It's a gorgeous dress.

Wonderlandpeony · 21/03/2026 23:23

I really like the green dress, very classy.

Newname29 · 21/03/2026 23:35

Lovely dress and perfectly fine for an Irish wedding!

Granddaughter of an Irish Catholic here, red is an absolute no go for a church wedding unless you want all the elders referring to you as “that harlot”.

I’m also 1/4 Irish but your comment is so embarrassing. I can’t comment on whether the dress is suitable but I think it’s ugly.

Well I hope it's not @Doseofreality 's grandparents who are the "elders". You find them everywhere, in every society - horrible people, best not to repeat the crap that comes out of their mouths and we certainly shouldn't be making choices to please the likes of them.

Ninjamom · 22/03/2026 09:17

Wear the dress. I’m Irish and live in England so can speak with experience. Maybe a shawl or a cape for the reading - and then you are good to go for the rest of the day. Accessorise with gold, pair with camel tones to tone it down a bit.

TheIceBear · 22/03/2026 18:14

I see this type of thing at Irish weddings all the time . Just wear a jacket in the church .

I’m fully Irish and live in Ireland and I’ve never ever heard anyone referred to as a “harlot”. This dress is tame by the standards of what a lot of women wear nowadays . I mean elderly Irish people are used to walking down the shops and seeing women walking around in scrunch bum shorts and the like on a daily basis .

I agree - anyone I know that referred to a woman as a harlot would not be someone I had any time for - nevermind respect.

When I land on something I'll try and remember to update here 😊

I haven't heard the word harlot, but hussy now that's possible.

The English love piling on us don't they. Haven't we suffered enough 😂

Gowlett · 22/03/2026 22:58

Irish weddings are very dressy affairs.
We love a bit of glam on the Big Day!
