Small (inexpensive) things that make you feel happy.

Slightly inspired by the keyring thread: what small things do you have that make you feel more put-together? I have two:
• a small pencil case, so when I go to meetings I'm not scrabbling about in the bottom of my bag, and
• I got rid of my tatty old shopping bags and bought some in nice colours with ridiculous 70s patterns on them. They always make me feel happy when I use them.

Pack of two custard tarts if I go into M&S and eating them both during the day with a cup of tea. Lovely treat. 😁

I do exactly the same thing 😂

Max Factor lippy from the supermarket especially Rosewood and Sunbronze
Discovering that Fidji eau de parfum is still available to buy online

Wearing clothes that I have sewn myself, that actually do fit

I love Fidji, have been wearing it since the 80s and I'm wearing it today. I probably wear this perfume more than any of my other ones.

My Merlin bird app, which identifies bird calls. I prop my phone on the window ledge in my bedroom with my window slightly ajar while I have my morning shower.
Yesterday it had recognised 28 different species of bird in 10 minutes- all within hearing distance of my house! It has also helped me learn to recognise some bird calls.
Makes me feel there is hope for the world!

S&B ones;
Honing down my make up to things which I know I’ll use until they’re finished:
Mac Teddy eyeliner and a Mac matching eyeshadow
Urban Decay Nildew eyeliner and eyeshadow
All below £25 each and last ages, and it means I can be ready really quickly as I only have two colours to choose from.

Bubble bath - a big bottle of Simple unscented lasts ages and is super bubbly

Uniqlo cord crescent shaped bag - looks good, fits loads in, easy to carry- I love it

Second Burts Bees lip balms, but also would add Clinique Black Honey (and they do a small lip balm sized version now for sticking in your coat pocket)

The Ordinary rosehip oil

Not S&B

Jugs full of daffodils

Premier Inn pillows

Sunshine after weeks of rain

An hour alone in a good hipster cafe with a book, coffee and cake

Yay for the Premier Inn pillows! I've tried hundreds of pillows (why is there no facility for a free night's sleep to try a pillow?) from feather to memory foam - they all start out feeling great but I've hoiked them off the bed by 1am. Premier Inn are the only ones that I've found that are comfortable - and you can't beat a good night's sleep for feeling happy!

Have you tried Dunlopillo (rebranded as Relyon)? They are the best pillows in the whole world!

I would love to try! But I'm slightly afraid to shell out and then find I don't get on with it - I think we should be allowed to send pillows back (I have a cupboard full of 'tried once and discarded' pillows, plus the spare beds are heaped with them. Most end up as dogs' beds).

IsItTooPink · 04/03/2026 08:45

Got up early today, washed my hair and took more than 5 mins to put my make up on and dry my hair. I’ve even put a shirt on today (I wfh so very easy to love in sweats and T-shirts). Also put my favourite perfume on.

I wonder if there are any in a showroom you can try?!

I have to say they don’t fit in with the title of this thread though, as they are not inexpensive or small!!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/03/2026 09:40

No showrooms around here!
But I think Premier Inn pillows are inexpensive - the last ones I bought were £36 for two, which isn't too bad! I'll give you the size thing though.

A free one! Smiling widely at an unknown baby on the street or bus and getting first a stare then an enormous gradually dawning baby smile in return. One of the best things on this Earth.

Ah yes! I’m with you on that!!

Having an at home pamper day, love a relaxing weekend with face and hair masks and some lovely smelling body lotion followed by fresh pjs.

A good bargain!
Just hammered the Primark sale section and got some fantastic bits. Including a tan blazer for £5, some boots I've had my eye on (also £5) and a pair of trousers for £1!

Overdressing for a random Tuesday! Always makes me happy to dress up just to mooch around the house.

Non S&B,
My morning Nescafé Latte

A walk in the sunshine

Snuggling on the sofa with my dog

A trip to the cinema (I have an Unlimited sub)

This thread has encouraged me to do some online shopping, the Helen Chalmers glass jewellery (PP mentioned) is lovely - just bought some.

Something I love - Perfume. Inexpensive because I tend to buy in TK Maxx or Savers, which is far cheaper than other shops. Just bought some CKIn2U which smells quite fresh ( was amused that the web description included "cactus", whatever sort of smell is a cactus ?)

EvelynBeatrice · 17/03/2026 18:16

I bought the Sanex bar soap recently for a sensitive skinned visitor - and - surprisingly - it has a gorgeous light scent.

I buy myself flowers, I love having a fresh bunch in the kitchen and it always makes me smile. Makes my kitchen look a bit brighter too. I currently have yellow roses that cost £2.69 from Lidl

Yes me too, flowers
