Small (inexpensive) things that make you feel happy.

Slightly inspired by the keyring thread: what small things do you have that make you feel more put-together? I have two:
• a small pencil case, so when I go to meetings I'm not scrabbling about in the bottom of my bag, and
• I got rid of my tatty old shopping bags and bought some in nice colours with ridiculous 70s patterns on them. They always make me feel happy when I use them.

Having a good looking bag fully stocked and appropriate for each task outside the home.

The Bridge leather crossbody for dog walks.
Backpack for days out (wipes, travel cutlery, tablet in padded compartment, power bank), Ryanair size.
Reading group Hervé Chapelier bag (pencil case, notebook, reading notes)
Cool bag for picnics or road trips (ice packs and Tupperware)
Weekender bag, Reisenthel. Also used for swimming or beach.
Fully stocked Reisenthel soap bags, small and large (sun cream not needed any other time!)

Which means I just need to transfer purse, keys and phone from my work bag and everything stays together for that activity.
I’m also a sucker for mini versions of stuff (mini sewing kit, folding toothbrush, toiletries bottles, hairbrush, lip balm, hotel soaps) and this way I can justify buying them!

Style and beauty related:

Huggie hoops from Silver Rain Silver on Etsy. Comfortable enough to sleep in, shower in and always look like I've made a bit of an effort. I have loads of different ones and just swap them out once a week.

An everything shower on a Sunday. Face mask, body scrub, shave, hair mask, body lotion afterwards etc. I put a podcast on my bluetooth speaker and lock myself in the bathroom for half an hour of me-time.

One in one out policy on clothes, shoes, bags etc. It means I've slowly updated my wardrobe to items that I love so if I buy something new it has to be really worth it. It has saved me loads of money too on unnecessary spending.

I absolutely love an organised bag!
I literally only use the dust bags I've collected from Radley/coach etc over the years but having things where I know where they are brings me too much joy.

Crikey! Where is this gym at £27!!!!

NW England. I pay £313 for an annual membership, works out closer to £26pm.

changeme4this · 01/03/2026 18:16

I treated myself to a monthly music subscription which operates through my computer. I’ve saved music from my youth onto it, and always feel better (and more productive) when it’s playing.

I probably move around a bit quicker too!

Jo Malone candles- I only got two of them (two of my favorite ones) and the make me feel good!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 01/03/2026 18:44

A good buy in the charity shop (all clothes £ 1.00)

Cheap flowers. There's a charity shop in town which gives away fresh stuff from Tesco. Two weeks ago I got two bunches of lilies (normal price £ 12.00 each) and they are fantastic. As DH said, they are really showing off now.

Something extravagant from Tesco reduced to clear.

Sheeppig · 01/03/2026 18:45

I have a small tub of Jo Malone body cream that I rub into my neck just before bed. I can smell the delicious scent all night and the small tub lasts me ages.

Flowers from lidil or Aldi every week .
I put them in a lovely jug on kitchen table .
Candles that I also buy every week, & I always have batteries in house for my different sets of lights I have draped here & there 😊

Daffodils and a lovely smelling shampoo. Something that looks lovely and smells lovely lifts the soul.

TheToteBagLady · 01/03/2026 18:58

I bought pots of primroses last year for near my front door. When they’d gone over, I planted them in my borders and forgot all about them.

They are in full bloom at the moment, and make me smile every day

GreenFingeredClara · 01/03/2026 19:11

This time of year £1 on a bunch of daffodils from the supermarket keeps me happy for a week.

Wintertime, snuggling under my heated throw (1p per hour apparently) with a good book or in front of a fire.

Having time and money to sit people watching with a cuppa in a cafe.

Or, as this evening, treating myself to a good steak, salad and glass of wine.

Seeing old friends.

Being single and doing as I please.

BeWildPearlFish · 01/03/2026 19:30

Oh I have a few!

I started using Revolution Pro Miracle night serum and moisturiser few months ago, it has made a huge difference to my skin

Biab nails every 3-4 weeks makes me feel more 'dressed'

A beanie hat with a satin lining for dog walks and no messy hat hair

A5 notebooks from Amazon haul which have a soft cover (a bit like suede) are great for work, I bought a batch last year and have different ones for different meetings/projects. They make me feel more organised and i can quickly jot down notes and thoughts without being all laptop efficient

CatMum27 · 01/03/2026 19:34

I got fed up of scrambling at the bottom of my bag for whichever lipstick/balm I was using so treated myself to a lipstick holder keyring. Means I can clip it onto an inside zip in my bag and always know where it is. It also makes me feel a tiny bit fancy 😂

SpodeFan · 01/03/2026 19:35

Organic clipper tea in a nice mug. A bunch of daffodils in an antique vase. Decent active wear and new trainers. A silk scrunchie.

Sometimessmiling · 01/03/2026 19:38

Getting into bed with newly laundered bedding
Cleaned out my herbs and spices today chucked the old ones
A phone call with both my sons who live abroad.
Tea and toast in bed from my wonderful amazing husband
Watching the birds on the bird feeders from my favourite seat

Pieceofpurplesky · 01/03/2026 19:44

Aromatherapy shower discs in a hot shower with gorgeous shower gel.
Them wrapped in a towel by the fire (in winter) and lots of moisturiser. I don't like baths so this is my equivalent

Placestogo · 01/03/2026 19:47

@BeWildPearlFish ooh im interested in your silk lined beany… care to share a link? Tia

i like daffodils - really worth their £1!!
i love my apple watch, it’s like a friend who cares about my sleep and my fitness (maybe it sounds sad said like this???)
going dancing with my friends - so much fun, makes me feel like i am 21 again!
my heated throw
my new jacket
my new converse because they were a proper bargain
my apple earpods and listen to great house music when i workout in the gym

mommatoone · 01/03/2026 19:48

There has been a thread like this previously where I've commented on- but don't know how to find it 😂🙈. Mine is an eye(sleep) mask I bought from Amazon , nothing fancy ( i looked for loads as i couldnt sleep!)But I put that on when I go to bed,and it instantly calms me and I have a great night's sleep 😴

I’ve had this plain summer dress from Boden for about twelve years. I get tons of compliments when I wear it. The colour, style and length all work for me I guess. A stylist would probably know why - I don’t!

I think this meets the “inexpensive” brief in the OP when cost per wear is considered.

Ooh, I think we need to see the dress, that sounds perfect!!

BlackCat14 · 01/03/2026 19:52

Coffee scented wax melts. I don’t drink coffee but the smell is amazing. I love putting one on in the morning, makes me so happy.

MulberryPeony · 01/03/2026 20:07

Ooh I wonder if they are the Freckle Face(?) wax melts @BlackCat14? I also don’t drink coffee but they smelled lush in the shop.

MulberryPeony · 01/03/2026 20:11

A warm bath with a few drops of essential oil.
Jojoba oil for the face gives me a lovely glow.
An incredibly unstylish fleece onesie.
Elemis cleansing balm (not massively cheap but seems to last forever).
Indoor plants to cleanse the air.

Catcooper25uk · 01/03/2026 20:15

Not possessions as such but going for a walk with the dog down our lovely country park thats practically right on our doorstep. I adore being at one with nature and being out and about in the fresh air there's just something so soothing about it. So to me thats priceless and its free so bonus.
