Small (inexpensive) things that make you feel happy.

Slightly inspired by the keyring thread: what small things do you have that make you feel more put-together? I have two:
• a small pencil case, so when I go to meetings I'm not scrabbling about in the bottom of my bag, and
• I got rid of my tatty old shopping bags and bought some in nice colours with ridiculous 70s patterns on them. They always make me feel happy when I use them.

Looking at Benedict Bridgerton. The end.

Ooh I wonder if they are the Freckle Face(?) wax melts @BlackCat14? I also don’t drink coffee but they smelled lush in the shop.

Oo no, the ones I get are a local independent seller but she doesn’t always have them available and I’ve never found them anywhere else so I’m going to check out Freckle Face, thank you!

DetectiveDouche · 01/03/2026 20:22

Tassimo coffee. Probably the cheapest coffee machine there is but I love it. Having one when I get up - and another when I get to work (my second machine lives at work) - are among the many simple pleasures in my life

BackinRed101 · 01/03/2026 20:24

cupa of tea, my tablet, and my writing pad / educational journal

Middlechild3 · 01/03/2026 20:24

Bar soap, I buy anything that I like the smell of. It sits in a string bag in the bathroom until used and makes the place smell lovely.
I've almost become a soap hunter and if someone knows where to get Pears herbal in the UK I'd be very grateful. Not the clear blue or green Pears. Opaque green Pears herbal.

I splurged a few summers ago and bought myself an inexpensive anniversary gift of a sterling silver Celtic-knot band ring which instantly felt as good on my finger as if it were made for me.
Usually rings bother me but this felt so comfortable and I couldn't take my eyes off it.
I've had it now over 3 years and it still brings me joy every time I see it shining on my finger!

A bunch of daffodils from the supermarket. They only cost a pound but really brighten up the lounge and are a reminder that spring is on its way after a dreary winter. 😃

CarlaLemarchant · 01/03/2026 20:36

I love perfume and if I need a treat, I’ll buy a dupe from Zara or Noted Aromas.

On the same theme, a new scented candle or diffuser for the home.

Bought some cheap new PJs today, got them on already, they feel lovely.

Style and beauty - I love make up and skincare, love a good mooch up and down the aisles in Boots!

None S&B - Tulips!

Crikey! Where is this gym at £27!!!!

Yes, I'd like to know too!

StillSpartacus · 01/03/2026 21:15

Aldi and Lidl dupe body lotions. Aldi for Jo Malone and Lidl for L’occitane. Love the smell of them all day long and very bargainous.

LatteLady · 01/03/2026 21:20

At this time of the year, bunches of Daffs and Tulip... the bright yellow just lifts me every single time.
Foot Mender for my feet... I put it on at night and it does a brilliant job, together with my heated blanket.
Next door's cats, who leap uninvited through the kitchen window... I know that they love me the most...
Proper coffee... many years ago (I realise now about 40) I promised myself I would never buy instant again and I haven't.
Smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels.
YSL Touche Eclat, via EBay and discontinued M&S Velvet Rose perfume, best Chanel No 5 dupe ever...
Boujois lipsticks, its Chanel roots still shine through.

Teaspoons , a random selection . I buy loose ones from John Lewis or Dunelm and got a sampler set from Robert Walsh .

A nice chunky propelling pencil with decent leads (0.7 , not the spindly 0,5)

Rituals Sakura

Aldi roll on anti-perspirant ( the one that doesn't leave white marks ) it works on my Menopausal Armpits and smells nice even at the end of the day

A walk in the sun. Big coat, comfy shoes, big sunnies, headphones on and podcast playing.
It's a welcome reset to my day.

However the best I feel all week is the drive home from the gym. From an overweight and unfit couch potato to a healthy weight and fitter person, I have carved out my gym time as proper self care. 20mins weights, 20 mins cardio, 10mins sauna, 5 mins swim, 15 mins steam room, 15 mins jacuzzi. Then 10 mins everything shower, lotion and potion, under eye masks and hair dry. I walk out of there 4x a week feeling Amazing. it's a complete bargain at £27pm.

what kind of gym for £27?

petitpasta · 01/03/2026 21:51

A new with tags silver tote from John Lewis that I picked up for a tenner on Vinted. Just makes any outfit better.

A Sainsbury's dress I also bought on vinted last year. Plain navy and nothing special but I got so many compliments when wearing it that I've bought another one in a smaller size as I've lost weight and want to wear it this summer too.

Sorting out 5 workday outfits on Sunday night. I hang a little PE style bag on the hanger and put underwear and accessories in it. I just take one out each morning and it just makes my morning routine more efficient. I also sort out 4 gym outfits for the week on Sunday night too.

Recently discovered Neom sleep hand balm which is lovely and about £9. Lovely scent.

Also biotin. Has made a big difference to my hair.

Looking at my crazy old dog’s happy little face when zooming around in the park makes me feel so much better about my day.

Feeling clean-hands, teeth and hair in particular.
If I think I have done a decent job on my make up.
Looking at my healthy (after years of athlete's foot) toenails.
Agree with the tidy wardrobe

Oooh out of interest how did you sort your athletes foot? I have the same problem!

Having a good looking bag fully stocked and appropriate for each task outside the home.

The Bridge leather crossbody for dog walks.
Backpack for days out (wipes, travel cutlery, tablet in padded compartment, power bank), Ryanair size.
Reading group Hervé Chapelier bag (pencil case, notebook, reading notes)
Cool bag for picnics or road trips (ice packs and Tupperware)
Weekender bag, Reisenthel. Also used for swimming or beach.
Fully stocked Reisenthel soap bags, small and large (sun cream not needed any other time!)

Which means I just need to transfer purse, keys and phone from my work bag and everything stays together for that activity.
I’m also a sucker for mini versions of stuff (mini sewing kit, folding toothbrush, toiletries bottles, hairbrush, lip balm, hotel soaps) and this way I can justify buying them!

Whoah!! This is seriously impressive!

PomegranateVase · 01/03/2026 22:35

A new lipstick.
Drinking from one of my favourite mugs or glasses.
Fresh flowers in a vase.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/03/2026 23:16

Beechtrees19 · 01/03/2026 22:33

Whoah!! This is seriously impressive!

I used to travel a lot for work and had the bag system for different clients or activities in my car boot mobile office.
Now I WFH the bags have migrated into the house!

VWT7 · 02/03/2026 00:28

Temple Spa Drift Away bath and body oil - calming, uplifting and relaxing.
I just use it as my perfume.

Clarins Blue Orchid Facial Oil - a treat after a sauna and swim.

Nicewoman · 02/03/2026 00:42

Reduced supermarket flowers. I can make one bunch last one month on under a fiver. Feels like absolute luxury and I feel like a housekeeper to celebrities. Cleaner = does all the work Housekeeper just inspects the cleaner’s work, unpacks the dishwasher, lets the dog go in the back garden and buys a bunch of fancy flowers.

Caterpillargirl23 · 02/03/2026 06:47

@ToysRus56

I did sort them many years ago using something prescibed from the GP. Once sorted I have tried to look after my feet-prevention rather than cure.
They look so much better than they did and although still not pretty, looking at them and not have to worry about covering them up it does cheer me up.
