Small (inexpensive) things that make you feel happy.

Slightly inspired by the keyring thread: what small things do you have that make you feel more put-together? I have two:
• a small pencil case, so when I go to meetings I'm not scrabbling about in the bottom of my bag, and
• I got rid of my tatty old shopping bags and bought some in nice colours with ridiculous 70s patterns on them. They always make me feel happy when I use them.

Loving this thread … I’ve been online shopping at least four times up to now though 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

Reduced supermarket flowers. I can make one bunch last one month on under a fiver. Feels like absolute luxury and I feel like a housekeeper to celebrities. Cleaner = does all the work Housekeeper just inspects the cleaner’s work, unpacks the dishwasher, lets the dog go in the back garden and buys a bunch of fancy flowers.

I used to buy reduced supermarket flowers a lot to cheer myself up. They never seem to mark them down now though.

A bag of Peckish complete bird seed. It brings me joy to scatter it outside for the birds and watch them (and the squirrels) enjoying the feast.

Love this thread , little small things that bring happiness .

mine aren’t all purchases but :

*New comfy pjs
*Fresh bed sheets & and in winter I love the teddy ones
*Walkers banana eclair toffees(not easy to find)
*Heat pad on my at home office chair
*Having a few multiples of toiletries , nothing too processed just shower gel , hand soap etc , so when they run out I don’t think I have to re purchase straight away .
*Heated lamp candle warmer

😍

Primroses.
Our lawn is covered with them in spring.

I love primroses, daffodils & snow drops .
Just back from walk around our local park .
It’s a fab morning where I am , ( yesterday lashed all day ) , & all along the path you walk , it goes around in a big circle , at either side is daffodils.
There are primroses when you walk up by the wooded area then .
I love this time of year ☺️

Maybe I should have specified Style & Beauty in my original post... 😆

😂

I think your thread has taken a different turn from what you were expecting - I laughed out loud where someone mentioned custard tarts!

This should have read “nothing too pricey “ not processed 😵‍💫

Cleared my make up
out this morning and washed the brushes.
Threw a few mascaras out so I ordered a Lancôme one as a treat.
I do have a small bag with stuff I never use but can’t bear to throw out, but it’s tiny.
Bought some nice storage baskets from Dunelm to put the pieces I am keeping in.
Remembered all the make up I loved in the 80’s and how prized it was - Miss Selfridge being my starting point.
Going to NYC in the 90’s with a MAC shopping list of what my friends wanted - don’t think there was a lipliner left.
There have been so many things I’ve loved owning and using but I have far less now, and I feel absolutely overwhelmed by the choice now.

Candles in my kitchen with fresh teatowels and nice cups.

wishingonastar101 · 02/03/2026 13:52

Bunch of flowers in the bathroom. Even £1 daffs. My mum thinks it's really fancy (in a kind of negative way) so I do it to lord my wealth over her.... but it also makes me happy!

Lostinmiddleage · 02/03/2026 14:55

Sitting on my own with an iced coffee with a book in a coffee shop. Otherwise new paints/wool/make up!

Hotafternoon · 02/03/2026 19:32

I've just eaten a whole bar of Aldi chocolate crammed full of roasted Hazelnuts. I think £1.09 is very inexpensive for half an hour of absolute pleasure.

Every month I try and treat myself to a pair of wee earrings from here https://www.helenchalmers.co.uk/collections/monthly-limited-run . She does a limited run every month and they are lovely. Gutted cos March run sold out before I got mine!

I get a lot of compliments when I wear the blossom earrings I bought from here . They always make me smile

A hand mask. I like the effect on my hands and it also means that my hands are out of action, so I can have a guilt free afternoon on the sofa, listening to an audio book or watching a film.

Sometimes, I tell my family that it is a special, expensive hand mask which must be worn for five hours and so there is no point in asking me to do anything at all.😀

This is quite simply genius

Frenchlady14 · 03/03/2026 09:58

Beauty and the Boutique chocolate eye crayon with chocolate eyeliner on the other end together with their Doe Eyes mascara - so easy and not having to faff around with different eyeshadow compacts and liners! They go together beautifully and fit in my small makeup bag and (I think) help my brown eyes look chocolately and mysterious 😁

evilharpy · 03/03/2026 12:03

My beloved debobbler. My clothes (particularly knitwear) are all bobble-free. I spent a happy 15 minutes this morning debobbling my daughter's favourite cardigan. Honest to god it is just bliss. Even better if you have a banging playlist on the go while you debobble. It was about £15 from amazon, best money I've ever spent.

IsThistheMiddleofNowhere · 03/03/2026 16:41

Molton Brown bath and shower gel. It lasts forever, comes in a variety of scents and each one is utterly divine.

amoosebouche · 03/03/2026 16:55

Method shower gel - lasts for ages and lovely scents

Max factor waterproof mascara, cheap brow pencil, vaseline - if I have these 3 I can just about pass as human 😆

Nice socks that go with outfit

Primark cotton PJs, really soft and lots of choice

Multiples of the same style of M&S bra in black / white / nude

EvelynBeatrice · 03/03/2026 17:37

A free one! Smiling widely at an unknown baby on the street or bus and getting first a stare then an enormous gradually dawning baby smile in return. One of the best things on this Earth.

EvelynBeatrice · 03/03/2026 17:38

Thick new white towels for the bathroom. TK Maxx bargains.

Rosenspants · 03/03/2026 18:23

Max Factor lippy from the supermarket especially Rosewood and Sunbronze
Discovering that Fidji eau de parfum is still available to buy online

Wearing clothes that I have sewn myself, that actually do fit

Mary46 · 03/03/2026 19:26
