Anyway, it’s just her ideas and opinions, not universal. But I’ve heard it now, neck, hips, bum, bust, legs all going to be scrutinised in my clothes now, at least for a short while.

OftenOrange · 11/03/2026 08:36

I rather liked seeing her tucking and twisting ideas, although as I’m the sort where clothes twist around in a bad way without any help ,it would work its way into a mess as soon as I’d move.
One thing I loathe is the long back of a shirt left hanging when the front is tucked.
As for feeling the+need to cover the bottom in an ill fitting pair of trousers, why buy them at all.
However I really like the way they tried to show possibilities , it could have gone further IMO

New drop , blah , all those co ords grim and terribly prim. Only possibility for me apart from the silly name. , is Chef’s Trousers.

ScallopShellWalk · 11/03/2026 08:50

Ah maybe I was too harsh on her. I did find her a bit distracting though.
I do agree that if something doesn’t look good on then don’t buy it. There’s plenty of other clothes to choose, or not.

Theteapotsbrokenspout · 11/03/2026 09:11

I felt the same on watching the live - they seemed to be making adjustments for poorly designed and fitted clothes rather than promoting how things work for different size and shape bodies.

In other news, after giving a poor review for the dress I returned with the badly sewn buttonhole placket, I've been offered a 10% discount if I want to reorder it.
As yet I’m undecided, I was hoping for an alternative in the new drop but none of the dresses are really for me.

Primrosespaw · 11/03/2026 10:51

Oh dear the live has notinspired me to buy anything from the latest drop. I think it’s one of the worst in ages. I don’t want to wear tea towel inspired clothes. Looks poorly fitting and uninspired colours.

TosstTastic · 11/03/2026 12:10

I really enjoyed Anna on the live. I think the outfits did look a lot more considered and balanced, unlike poor Evie, drowned in that smock top and elasticated skirt.

And yes the shoulder position for those of us with broad ones does make or break a shirt and those collarless shirts need a v if you've got a bust.

I thought the commentary was a lot more interesting than the usual, love that cord on you, love that smock on you.

CoasttoToast · 11/03/2026 12:59

Ugh so over women being told their bodies are too this or that and it needs covering up or hiding 😡
Short neck indeed !
Why not design and cut the clothes properly and consider a petite, regular and tall range with proportions adjusted correctly?
Agree regarding the Lemons dress, no one needs a fruit salad dress, too busy for the simple Selma shape

ScottishMouse · 11/03/2026 14:04

Had a quick pass through Toast on my lunch break and tried on a few more things from the new and last drops. My overall feeling is pretty meh.
The button through jersey top in the ecru colour washed me out, but there was nothing special about it and the stitching was bad at the collar on the one I tried. The irregular stripe smock top (that Evie was wearing) was also a terrible shade of off-white for my pale skin and it was a bit long and shapeless. I really liked the shape of the market check shirt but not so much the large checks on me. Would look at that if it came in another fabric though. I tried again and still like the washed black waistcoat and the slate knit linen cotton tee so will place an order for those. Also thinking about ordering the gingham Decho sunhat - I definitely need a sunhat for summer, but I find hats really tricky. They don’t particularly suit me, and I have extremely short hair and wear glasses and find that adds more elements to balance.
Also totally agree with all the comments about the live - all that do this so your neck looks longer kind of stuff winds me up, it’s like the bad old days of Trinny & Susannah.

ToastCosILoveIt · 11/03/2026 14:07

I see Anna confirms she is a women’s body shape expert at the beginning of the video, hence the constant references, particularly to ‘short necks’ 😀, but I wasn’t overly enamoured by Anna or by much of her styling. If I had Ari’s proportions and look, short neck and all, I would be dead chuffed.

Contrary to popular opinion here, I love, love the tea towel stripe cotton skirt in sea green and the matching top, and have ordered both, although would not wear them together (unless the top was unbuttoned as a jacket with a white or black tee underneath). I think that sea green top will look great with denim or with blouse trousers.

None of the dresses do anything for me, I don’t like the colourways/prints. I like the gingham blouse but would need to try it on in-store to make sure it isn’t giving too much of a tablecloth vibe.

I have also ordered the flower mountain sandals in blue, if they fit and look good, they will go with lots in my wardrobe.

Bimblesalong · 11/03/2026 15:19

Afternoon, Toasties. Thanks for the link, I must catch up on the video.

I’ve popped into Toast Edinburgh this week, a lovely shop with a person mending things downstairs - a gorgeous basket of wool in front of her to choose from.

I wasn’t too inspired by what was on show but randomly tried on the Pantry Stripe cotton wrap shirt. It’s not my usual thing, which is why I like it and it’ll go well with my linen dress and blue crinkle skirt from last year. I anticipate wearing it as a shacket as the weather warms.

CoasttoToast · 11/03/2026 17:06

What on earth!
Anna is the founder of the Think Shape App
Yes you can get an app to tell whats wrong with your body shape and how it can be fixed
An example if you are wearing a sweatshirt to the airport and tragically for you you have broader shoulders then she can suggest how to soften them!
Literally speechless
I DONT CARE how broad my shoulders are.
They are actually like an Olympic swimmers and I had no idea this was a bad thing

Toast what are you playing at !

ScottishMouse · 11/03/2026 17:19

Oh my word @CoasttoToast! I am off to take a look, intrigued….

PrincessofWells · 11/03/2026 17:24

I'm not sure how I feel about the video tbh. I think it's difficult being a woman, and I'm a woman of a certain age, but it feels a bit like somebody saying this is the ideal woman and this is how to look more like her. When the reality is we come in all shapes and sizes and colours and heights and arent we all over the 'how to conform'? On the other hand some of the tips might be of interest to some people. I don't know. I think I'm a fence sitter on this one . . .

PrincessofWells · 11/03/2026 17:26

@CoasttoToast I too have Olympic swimmers shoulders and I love them 😃

Countmeout · 11/03/2026 17:41

Could we start a petition to bring back Nikki ?

But her styling tips are nonsense

Im a woman of a certain age and I dont give a hoot about my long neck /broad shoulders / loooong pelvis etc

Its sooo old fashioned to be looking for and disguising these imaginary flaws instead of encouraging women to wear what they like.

IlovePond · 11/03/2026 18:10

I’ve been reading all your thoughts on the live and that woman - and what she stands for sound dreadful - I can’t imagine what Toast were thinking.

Plus: If the clothes need adjusting to look vaguely ok, then imo, they are not fit for purpose!

OP posts:
faustina · 11/03/2026 18:22

I'm afraid I got irritated by all the neck stuff and didn't watch to the end. Usually on the lives, we get to see people of all different shapes and sizes which is great and very helpful, but we don't usually see one of the presenters banging on about how their shapes need tweaking - not in that way at least. It doesn't seem very Toast (as Nikki might say)

VivienneDelacroix · 11/03/2026 19:09

Yea @faustina I felt the same about the neck comments. It seemed really odd, and they're not models, they're staff in the shops, so it seemed really unnecessary to comment on something they can't change about their appearance.

mizu · 11/03/2026 21:19

I stopped watching after the broad shoulders comment.

MiracleToast · 11/03/2026 21:22

I felt very uncomfortable watching it too, sadly. Poor Ari got it worst I thought with the constant reference to her broad shoulders. What’s wrong with that?! She was stunning. Agree very outdated and jarring to witness. Also didn’t really like any of the clothes.

IlovePond · 11/03/2026 23:08

Good grief: Am I the only one who thought Ari looked as if she wanted to smack Anna when she said sneeringly: ´reasonably balanced’?

Given that Ari is a staff member, it’s practically workplace bullying making her stand there just to be insulted!

Ari’s first outfit was nice. Most of the others were pretty awful. Evie looked like she was about to take off in that shirt!

IlovePond · 11/03/2026 23:15

´Round-shouldered’ 🙀

IlovePond · 11/03/2026 23:21

I quite like the Selma but I agree with the PP - those purple grapes are too dark against the rest of the fabric.

I’ve got as far as ‘If you’ve had too much to eat…’

OP posts:
Countmeout · 12/03/2026 07:56

The dark grapes really detracted from the dress. The blouse in the fabric has not the same placement and looks reasonable but it’d be a lottery where the grapes are. It’s like those black and white wide trousers from a few years back where the leaf placement could be unfortunate.
