@ScottishMouse - mine's the black and it says S

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2026 20:15

Thanks @CakeAndJazz and @faustina. It was the black one I was thinking of. Searching high and low for a sunhat (I do not suit hats!) for a holiday and wondering if the linen version of the Beton Cire rain hat might work. I’d have to order direct though.
I’ll try some Toast options first. Anyone tried the muehlbauer tobacco linen one, the Decho washi charcoal one, or the sublimeroe raffia one?

RockaLock · 13/05/2026 20:29

Solbari might be worth a look for sunhats? I’ve got a couple from there that I really like.

But don’t buy full price! - they seem to have 20/25/30% off offers reasonably frequently.

CakeAndJazz · 13/05/2026 20:47

@ScottishMouse I have the Muehlbauer linen one from a year or two ago, it has ties, but seems very similar to the linen ones from this season. I really love mine a lot. Very light, easy to pack and manipulate into shape too.

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2026 20:54

Thanks @RockaLock i don’t know Solbari, will have a look.
Will also definitely try the Muehlbauer one @CakeAndJazz

@ShanghaiDiva it’s Friday and Saturday.

Thank you!

So - the sample sale at KC - it was very busy, I got there at 9.45. There were a lot of dresses but I don't really have the lifestyle for them. However, I did pick up

  • a sample beautiful velvet column dress, very simple and elegant at £55.
  • a cream vest sample at £15
  • a boxy cream t £40
  • a longer cream t £42
  • a cream cord overshirt which I thought might be useful on chillier days just to throw on £60.

It was a useful trip, well worth the drive.

I'm off to Bradford on Avon for coffee (and hopefully I can sneak a piece of cake).

ScallopShellWalk · 15/05/2026 11:52

@PrincessofWells sounds lovely. I like the sound of all of your purchases, especially the cream and the cream chord overshirt. Does it have buttons?
Coffee and cake sounds perfect.

I love BOA. What a fabulous morning!

Hi, I went to the sale - got there at 9.15 and queued.

Compared with previous sample sales, there wasn’t much there and it was - on the whole - more expensive than previously.

There were:

Lots of dresses
Three coats
A (very) few skirts, tops and trousers
Some shoes and sandals
A couple of woollen blankets
A few pots

Lots and lots of people 🙀

@PrincessofWells - sounds like you found the bargains whilst I was dithering by the pottery 😹 You got some good bargains!

@ShanghaiDiva - I went back in again at 12.30 and there was very little left. Apparently they are not restocking for tomorrow, unfortunately.

There were eight or nine small rails of stock, a table of shoes and a tiny table with some pots. There were also one or two men’s sample rails in a separate part of the shop.

When I popped back in, they had taken most of the rails away as stock had sold out.

OP posts:
PrincessofWells · 15/05/2026 16:35

I think the shop was laid out quite poorly tbh and I did find I had to really hunt things out. A couple of things I picked off the rail which were changing room returns and a couple of things off the rails next to the q whilst waiting to try on, which was just luck.
I struggle with Toast trousers other than jeans so didnt look very hard, but the trouser samples were all small sizes. But I will say everyone was very polite to each other even though it was very busy.

IlovePond · 15/05/2026 16:40

Very true @PrincessofWells - customers seemed much better natured /more patient than in previous years!

I agree about the layout - it was much better when they held it upstairs. I was surprised how cramped the area of sample stock was.

I’ve not long been back - bought an ochre coloured long linen sleeveless dress £60, a pair of denim dungarees that are too big but were £20, might have to try and shrink them and a one off quite unusual dress. I’ll try and post a pic.

it was crazily busy and most stock went in the first hour or so.

@IlovePond were you wearing your flower mountain trainers?

mizu · 15/05/2026 18:03

Has a tie belt if needed.

I was @mizu! Did you see me?

mizu · 15/05/2026 18:16

@IlovePond I may have been behind you in the queue??? I had on my flower mountain sandals……

IlovePond · 15/05/2026 18:16

£20 for dungarees @mizu - that’s brilliant!

As in your lovely brown jumper and blue FM sandals @mizu?

OP posts:
mizu · 15/05/2026 18:18

They don’t latch very well hence the £20 but I’ve tied the open clasps with a tiny hair and each and they are fine.

mizu · 15/05/2026 18:18

@IlovePond yep ☺️

IlovePond · 15/05/2026 18:20

Wow-small world! So nice to have met you in real life!

OP posts:
mizu · 15/05/2026 18:25

I did think about asking you something like do you like pond swimming as I knew from on here that you’d bought those trainers…… but then thought there were probably quite a few of us in flower mountain and I’d look a bit silly. Also I was on the lookout for old uni pal. Nice to have met you too!

IlovePond · 15/05/2026 18:28

We really do need a special MN Toast password @mizu 😹
