I really like that top @ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs but haven’t tried it as the fitted waist put me off. Maybe I’ll give it a go though, it could be very useful. Did you go for your usual size or go up one (lots of the reviews mention sizing up)?

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 12/05/2026 08:46

@ScottishMouse that’s my usual size. Or rather, it’s the size I’ve only recently shrunk into. At the end of last summer I was still a 14. I felt daring ordering the 12, but I think a 14 would have been too big. On the other hand, just a few cm larger and I’d want 14 because I wouldn’t want it too fitted.

ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs · 12/05/2026 08:52

Looking at the size chart, for a 72 and 98 hips waist I should have a 10, but that’s wrong, I definitely need the 12 for waist. Also for bust, since the size 10 expects 89cm to my 96. So I see why people say size up.

I am definitely going to the sample sale on Friday at KC now, so will report back.

Me too! How will I recognise you? 😂

IlovePond · 12/05/2026 10:51

@PrincessofWells - I will be the one trying everything on whilst DH and DDog lurk outside!

That’s assuming I can get there - DH has just told me that the petrol cap has broken on the car!

We ought to have a secret MN Toast sign!

Has anyone tried the black jersey vneck dress? I haven’t seen it in store and to be honest it kind of underwhelmed when I saw it previously online. But I am searching high and low for a plain neutral coloured dress with sleeves of some sort that I can wear on holidays and hopefully layer up in spring/autumn too. I am really not a dress person and have none in my wardrobe anymore, so it needs to be a workhorse dress.
I returned the seersucker dress as it was just too sheer for me, and it needed to be perfect for me to get over the lack of sleeves 😆 i have looked through all the dresses online and find it hard to believe the jersey one is the only one that looks a possibility.

Have you considered the Lydia dress with a t shirt underneath?

ScottishMouse · 12/05/2026 12:14

Thanks @ToastSafeFromMothsAndDogs I am usually the 12 end of medium but bought the fish top in a 14 so I might try 14 in this if I have no luck with other things I have ordered. I quite dislike the overly a-line shape of some Toast tops on me, so this appeals, but I wonder if darts are going too far in the other direction 😆

ScottishMouse · 12/05/2026 12:18

Thanks @PrincessofWells I had (and sold on) the vneck Lydia but could never get on with the more fitted skirt, I need something less straight. I tried the vneck jersey dress at the weekend and it was a no - too long, sleeves a bit flappy, vneck wasn’t cut straight on the one I tried, just quite underwhelming. Maybe I’m just not a dress person anymore.

hicat · 12/05/2026 16:23

@faustina i think im going for this one? It doesnt say a length but I think their measurements plus some extra for mistakes (or further projects if i actually can do this) mean needing about 6/7 meters. according to the internet, 125grams is more than enough, though I'm not sure how true that is, it visibly looks like a good few meters...! (sorry for the un toast-like amazon link) This one

ScallopShellWalk · 12/05/2026 16:59

@hicat one thing- the Amazon reviews say this is a flat cane, though it does says it’s round in the title??

ScallopShellWalk · 12/05/2026 17:23

@hicat thank you though as it did at least get me to sort out buying some. I went for the #3 round reed from vfuli. I have no idea if it’s too much or not enough but I’ve ordered it so fingers crossed.

faustina · 12/05/2026 18:45

Thanks @hicat and @ScallopShellWalk for reminding me about the round reed - had completely forgotten about it, and it nicely rounded up my Amazon basket to free postage!

hicat · 12/05/2026 21:46

oh thanks for the heads up! I saw one review complaining it wasn’t flat enough and I thought “that’s because it says it’s round reed” and obviously not! Luckily I had to wait for partner to get home (to use his prime) so I hadn’t ordered yet. Might just copy you! Also buying some olive oil soap which is apparently an excellent stain remover—had never come across this knowledge before!

mizu · 13/05/2026 07:09

@ToastCosILoveIt they look great! I have those sandals too but the ones from last year so a dark blue. I love them so much and the comfort factor is off the scale!

mizu · 13/05/2026 07:12

@PrincessofWells@IlovePond I am definitely going too. I have an old uni friend who lives in Glastonbury and we usually meet up there to have a shop. I have taken a day off work and am very much looking forward to it.

ScallopShellWalk · 13/05/2026 11:19

Has anyone any experience of using leather soled shoes? I bought a lovely pair on reworn and they are so comfortable. I have did some research on leather soles and what I would really like to do is use them as normal in drier weather. I do very little indoors that requires a shoe. I want to use them outdoors but my concern is perhaps that the amount of walking I do when I’d want to wear them could be little or could be hours of walking on pavements. I read that some say this is fine if not worn everyday or in the wet. Might need resoled annually but probably less often if I’m hardly wearing them in a week or only really in summer. I’m not interested in adding a rubber layer. Just wondered if anyone here did this and what they found.

ScallopShellWalk · 13/05/2026 12:05

Correction. I may consider rubber topy’s to the leather sole.

ScallopShellWalk · 13/05/2026 13:42

I asked the manufacturer and they do not recommend having a rubber topy added to the leather soles in case of interference with the sole/welt. In truth I didn’t want to add one and will be content now to use, care for and resole when needed.

IlovePond · 13/05/2026 14:31

@mizu - I shall be there - looking forward to it after the week I am having at work atm 🙀

OP posts:
faustina · 13/05/2026 15:09

@ScallopShellWalk - the last pair of leather soles I had were really slippery underfoot so I did get a rubber sole put on, after first scoring them (which didn't really work)

ScallopShellWalk · 13/05/2026 15:26

@faustina thank you for letting me know how you got on. I’ve never had leather soles. When the time comes for resoling them I may choose a complete rubber sole. But I want to enjoy the leather, while I can. I wonder if leather soles allow for earthing?

ScottishMouse · 13/05/2026 17:37

Wondering if anyone has the Beton Ciré rain hat that Toast had a few years ago and can tell me what size is marked on jt. They make them in s, m, and l but Toast just had one size. Thanks!!

ShanghaiDiva · 13/05/2026 18:58

Is the sample sale at KC only on Friday or all weekend?
The fish print top is gorgeous: fabric is really soft and I love the colours. The armholes are a little larger than I would like, but fine with flesh coloured bra and given the current temperature am planning on wearing it without a jacket or cardigan!

mizu · 13/05/2026 19:31

@ShanghaiDiva it’s Friday and Saturday.

CakeAndJazz · 13/05/2026 19:52

@ScottishMouse is it the olive coloured one without ties? I just checked mine and it isn’t marked with S M, but does have T57 on the label - could it be the circumference?
