Can we talk about how awful tights are?

Just that really - I've recently started working back in an office - so out with the joggers an hoodie and now I "dress" for work LOL.

The tights I've worn are just dreadful.... Often the tights seem to grip onto the fabric of the skirt/dress i'm wearing so it all ends up kind of clinging to my legs...... the crotch area ends up half way down to my knees - the seams end up all over the place and generally they are just not comfy at all!

I've tried buying form M&S and Tesco and a few other places but am yet to find a suitable brand where the tights fit properly aaargh.

I have considered hold ups but just checked out the reviews on M&S online and there are many comments of them falling down..

So MN collective - please tell me if there is a brand of tights out there that are actually comfy - or if you've been able to find a great alternative - I'm all ears.

Snag tights are amazing!!

PurpleNightingale · 25/02/2026 13:20

I've heard good things about snag- I am pretty happy with my M&S tights though so I haven't switched.

Plump82 · 25/02/2026 13:21

You'll get a love / hate opinion on here with Snag but they're are, in my opinion fantastic!!

SMM2020 · 25/02/2026 13:21

Snag - the only tights I buy

socks1107 · 25/02/2026 13:22

Snag - awesome tights

plentyofsunshine · 25/02/2026 13:22

Snag

UpAndDownAllTheTime · 25/02/2026 13:22

I suggest trousers.

namechange3651 · 25/02/2026 13:23

I swear by Snag (after years of refusing to wear tights for the same issues having) - they’re life changing and I’ll never go back. Actually stay up, feel more like comfy leggings than tights, never have to worry about readjusting and I don’t think I’ve ever had a pair rip or get damaged.

Bristolandlazy · 25/02/2026 13:24

Snag are the only tights I'll buy, they're fabulous. But in general I do hate tights

TartanMammy · 25/02/2026 13:24

Snag tights.

Also wide leg trousers, I've mostly ditched dresses now in favour of nicely tailored trousers.

Iloveeverycat · 25/02/2026 13:26

Snag are good or wear a slip to stop clinging and knickers on top of tights to stop them falling down.

dreamiesformolly · 25/02/2026 13:31

Not RTFT but I swear by Manzi, from Amazon.

PhaedraWas · 25/02/2026 13:31

You're wearing the wrong size. I buy tights from supermarkets and M & S and Boots. They're all fine.

And wear a slip under unlined clothes

thedevilinablackdress · 25/02/2026 13:33

I get on fine with M&S tights. Slip/underskirt sometimes needed , depending on the fabric of the skirt. Other issue sounds like sizing, either to big or too small, hard to say.

SerenityScout · 25/02/2026 13:39

Totally get it, cheap tights twist, cling and just feel awful. Lots of people swear by higher-quality pairs from brands like Wolford, Falke or Kunert with good stretch and a reinforced gusset that actually stay put and feel comfy all day , worth paying a bit more for proper fit!

hellotomrw · 25/02/2026 13:39

Snag 100%

purser25 · 25/02/2026 13:42

Snag have got rid of all my old tights now

VikingLady · 25/02/2026 13:43

That’s why people used to wear slips. They make your clothes slip over your underlayer.

Mydogisagentleman · 25/02/2026 13:47

Snag always.
I'm 5'10" and hefty.
Never had a pair slip down or cause dresses to cling.
Nor have I had a ladder or hole

They fit, they last, they are comfortable! I have 2 pairs now and will only ever buy Snag tights from now on.

Edited

Nope, mine lasted a couple of washes and now roll down and are absolutely ENRAGING. I was sooo happy to find tights that are comfortable so it’s made me doubly bitter that I can’t walk down the street without having to hoik them up every 5 steps!

CortieTat · 25/02/2026 13:54

Lined clothes or wearing a slip under unlined ones. Falke is my brand to go, I have several pairs from them that lasted over 15 years (bought in 2008/2009).

its2025 · 25/02/2026 14:37

Wow everyone - thats an almost overwhelming bunch of posts in favour of Snag.... I have seen them advertised but never looked properly so I will have a look. I may also re-try M&S but check my sizing perhaps.
Anyone found any hold ups that, you know actually hold up??

StillHereStillFatStillGorgeous · 25/02/2026 14:39

Yet another recommendation for snag tights. They're comfy and last for ages

DisplayPurposesOnly · 25/02/2026 14:45

Anyone found any hold ups that, you know actually hold up??

I wear M&S Autograph opaque hold-ups and rarely have a problem.

My tips:
One size doesn't fit all, buy the right size
Find where they fit best on you - for me that's mid thigh (so no short skirts). If I pull them higher they roll down
Don't put them on until any body lotion has been thoroughly absorbed
When they're on, run your fingers under the tap and run them around the inside of the silicon strip.

I dont use fabric conditioner but wonder if that could be a factor in falling-down problems 🤔
