Can we talk about how awful tights are?

Just that really - I've recently started working back in an office - so out with the joggers an hoodie and now I "dress" for work LOL.

The tights I've worn are just dreadful.... Often the tights seem to grip onto the fabric of the skirt/dress i'm wearing so it all ends up kind of clinging to my legs...... the crotch area ends up half way down to my knees - the seams end up all over the place and generally they are just not comfy at all!

I've tried buying form M&S and Tesco and a few other places but am yet to find a suitable brand where the tights fit properly aaargh.

I have considered hold ups but just checked out the reviews on M&S online and there are many comments of them falling down..

So MN collective - please tell me if there is a brand of tights out there that are actually comfy - or if you've been able to find a great alternative - I'm all ears.

Nope, mine lasted a couple of washes and now roll down and are absolutely ENRAGING. I was sooo happy to find tights that are comfortable so it’s made me doubly bitter that I can’t walk down the street without having to hoik them up every 5 steps!

Same.

TurnipsAndParsnips · 26/02/2026 13:04

Better Tights are better!

StripedVase · 26/02/2026 13:04

I am with you - no tights ever fit right, I can't even tell if it's because they're too big or too small, and I don't give Snag my money because their whole aesthetic makes me shudder- so I just wear thin thermal leggings and socks these days. (I realise this approach is footwear-dependent - I do mostly wear boots!) Lord knows how much I've spent on failed tights over the years.... I think they're a flawed concept!!

its2025 · 26/02/2026 13:45

Thanks everyone for the helpful suggestions. I will go away and Google a few of the suggested retailers and try them out.

Yes I know I can wear trousers - and I do quite often. But also I like wearing skits and dresses occasionally. I do go bear leg in summer sometimes - but my legs look better in tights.

Primark tights are great and cheap. Try sizing up to stop them falling down

TeaAndToastedCrumpets · 27/02/2026 12:20

Calzedonia for hold ups, they're comfortable and don't fall down

Oblivionnnnn · 27/02/2026 12:35

I can’t do tights. The feel of them is revolting 🤢

Trousers!!

Gettingbysomehow · 27/02/2026 12:50

I buy cheap ones from Amazon and they are always fine and stay up.

Alpacajigsaw · 27/02/2026 12:51

Plump82 · 25/02/2026 13:21

You'll get a love / hate opinion on here with Snag but they're are, in my opinion fantastic!!

This

the tights are good if you can get past the company

PhaedraWas · 25/02/2026 13:31

You're wearing the wrong size. I buy tights from supermarkets and M & S and Boots. They're all fine.

And wear a slip under unlined clothes

Edited

They're all the wrong size for some of us, though. I'm tall with hourglass hips and thighs, getting something the right size for my hips leaves me with not enough room to fit all my legs in and you end up with uncomfortable droopy crotches.

Yet I perservere because trousers are even harder to get to fit me, especially with the slant pockets they insist on putting in them which leave me looking like I have a dead muppet stapled to each side of my pelvis. Leggings are a good option but don't necessarily pass the smart workwear test.

YouHaveAnArse · 27/02/2026 13:00

I can never work out my size with Snag, though.

I had a pair of Falke from TK Maxx that were great, and some Spanx tights that I've never seen there ever again - but I'm too clumsy with them to pay full price.

John Lewis own brand hold ups are your friend. Unlike some other brands they really do (hold up).

I love the tights from Snag but not the TWAW nonsense and I have to try not to look at some of the morbidly obese models, because I find it unhealthy looking and off-putting. (Same applies to excessive skinnies fwiw). I also think the quality has gone down a bit lately.

Better Tights is like Snag without the above and I 100% recommend.

I'm a big fan of the 'TWAW nonsense' (how much of this is even that prevalent for a clothing company?) and think it's refreshing that an underwear company will show how their range looks on larger bodies at a time when many brands are cutting back on bigger sizes. Perhaps it's a hangover from magazine features promising "bras for every size!!" and not a single one of them being available in mine.

EvelynBeatrice · 27/02/2026 13:59

I love my woolly black navy or mink tights from next or marks in the winter. So cozy worn with knee high or ankle boots.

Yes thinner tights can cause static - but I usually buy lined dresses and skirts or wear a slip from Marks and Spencer or Next underneath. Slips give you a much nicer line, skim over lumps and bumps and usually prevent’cling’. They make cheaper clothes look more expensive on too.

Vinvertebrate · 27/02/2026 14:01

Well @YouHaveAnArse it's prevalent enough that several PP's have already commented on it. I'm all for better sizing - it's the reason why most of us ended up at Snag in the first place. (That, and the fact that supermarket tights seem to be practically single use/disposable because of their crapness, which is not exactly sustainable). I just don't want ordering a simple pair of work tights to involve looking at the ample upper thighs of a size 32 person of indeterminate sex wearing BDSM gear. It's grotesque and unnecessary (and yes, I am an uptight old fart. But I do like my hosiery to stay up!)

EvelynBeatrice · 27/02/2026 14:03

My summer bare legs tip is Boots Protect & Perfect Intense BB facial sun protection - the skin tinted one - on your legs. Gives a lovely golden glow and covers minor skin perfections and if allowed to dry stays on until washed off with soap and water.

I think that This Works and Mac also do body / legs make up but I haven’t tried them.

Brefugee · 27/02/2026 14:05

if i understand right, Snag tights stop the static skirt thing?

I always wear my tights too big and have stopped wearing unlined skirts, or wearing a slip.

Monolithique · 27/02/2026 14:06

Am currently wearing m and s body sensor tights, once I've got them on they are comfy.

I do however have to size up - i am v short so obviously have short legs and according to the size guide a medium should be fine, but it isn't .

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/02/2026 14:42

John Lewis tights and hold ups work for me (I also like M&S though).

Quiptic · 27/02/2026 14:51

For those recommending slips to stop tights clinging to clothing, do you have any recommendations?

caringcarer · 27/02/2026 15:15

I hate tights so don't wear them. I'd opt for trousers instead.

I’m finding this too and I’m actually frustrated that so many women are still finding Snag to be so amazing and fantastic! Their quality has taken a massive nose dive in the last couple of years as they’ve really, ahem, overstretched themselves as a company. The past 5x pairs I got, different styles, were absolute garbage. Credit to them their customer service is pretty good but the replacements were no better. They get holes in very easily, the denier isn’t the same quality. They roll down. They come out of the packet looking shrunken. The toes wear through. All after a few wears. In one case on the first wear, they laddered, within two hours of having the bloody things on. When I first bought them five or so years ago and they were a smaller company with less stock they were far better.

If you’re still having success with them I think you’re lucky, because they’ve gone to shit.

Arraminta · 27/02/2026 15:46

I only wear Wolford. They're perfect and worth the price. I won't buy from Snag because their fetishistic advertising is vile.

Onefortheroad25 · 27/02/2026 15:55

I wore tights yesterday for the first time in years. Awful things. Thank god I don’t wear them often.
