Can we talk about how awful tights are?

Just that really - I've recently started working back in an office - so out with the joggers an hoodie and now I "dress" for work LOL.

The tights I've worn are just dreadful.... Often the tights seem to grip onto the fabric of the skirt/dress i'm wearing so it all ends up kind of clinging to my legs...... the crotch area ends up half way down to my knees - the seams end up all over the place and generally they are just not comfy at all!

I've tried buying form M&S and Tesco and a few other places but am yet to find a suitable brand where the tights fit properly aaargh.

I have considered hold ups but just checked out the reviews on M&S online and there are many comments of them falling down..

So MN collective - please tell me if there is a brand of tights out there that are actually comfy - or if you've been able to find a great alternative - I'm all ears.

I swear by M&S 60 denier, come in a 3 pack and I have 15 denier ones (5 pack) for that period where you don’t want to be in thick tights but it’s not sandal weather/raining/ short skirt and pasty white legs

PinkTonic · 25/02/2026 14:55

I won’t buy snag tights but I can highly recommend heist.

Velentia · 25/02/2026 15:13

Stockings and a broad belt and 6 clips not four.

SoScarletItWas · 25/02/2026 15:15

M@S tights are fine for me but I go up a size (I’m tall with a 32/33 inside leg and they never fall down).

Wear a slip to stop the drag/ cling.

EgregiouslyOverdressed · 25/02/2026 15:42

Yes to Snags, and Better Tights.

Hold ups do not hold up. You would be better off wearing a suspender belt - a proper vintage reproduction one with metal clips, not a sexy one designed purely for the bedroom. I like What Katie Did and Kiss Me Deadly (the latter has now closed but you see end-of-line pieces from time to time to time).

But try Snags first.

I suggest trousers.

This! Looks much more current.

I like M&S tights but only for weekends

AnyQuestions101 · 25/02/2026 16:19

I wear M&S tights for work (I wear a uniform, so no choice) I’m 5ft 9 and a size 10 but I wear them in XL. They never slip down

Hold ups stay up on me, but no body lotion and don’t dry them on a radiator, it messes them up somehow

FlapperFlamingo · 25/02/2026 16:20

Another vote for snag - they are honestly a revelation after other tights.

KitsyWitsy · 25/02/2026 16:22

I have spent so much on snag tights.. they are the only ones I wear. I have so many. I am tall and shapely so I have had lots of issues with tights in the past but snag tights fit so well. I love all the lacy ones they do as well and get them for nights out. I'm always getting compliments.

MrsNathanDrake · 25/02/2026 16:24

Another Snag fan here. Haven’t bought anything else for years. Heist also good but I thought they were too expensive.

Benchdogs · 25/02/2026 16:40

On the few occasions I need to wear such things I wear M&S hold ups and they’re brilliant, but as someone said, they fall down if you place them too high so they need to be short enough on you. And once they’ve fallen down that’s it, they’re not going back on, the silicone is done.

It seems Snag have cornered the market in properly sized tights but I had such terrible customer service from them the one time I tried to buy I won’t now on principle. Cue avalanche of people saying their customer service is great. I’m sure it is, it wasn’t that one time for me and they don’t get a second chance.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/02/2026 16:43

I’ve been fine with Tesco and Tu Sainsbury’s opaque tights. The only annoying pair was I had a sheer polka dot pair and they ran after one wear, Tu.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 25/02/2026 16:46

The Autograph hold ups stay up. Snag do some garter tights that are fab, sort of like having an integrated suspender belt.

MrsBenevolent · 25/02/2026 16:49

@Bulbsbulbsbulbs Those are brilliant! Though you do have to be very sure that your skirt doesn't ride up on the 0813 to Slough and a creepy man passes you his phone number.

Thunderdcc · 25/02/2026 16:59

I wear control top tights not just to look thinner but the top of them is properly sturdy and they don't fall down!

M&S or supermarkets are fine.

Boden used to do great tights but I'm not sure they sell them any more.

Notellinganyone · 25/02/2026 17:03

After years of trial and error I now only buy Wolford 66 Velvet de luxe black opaques. They are very expensive- I get them reduced on eBay and they are still about £27 per pair but they last for ages and are extremely comfortable and flattering.

ConstanzeMozart · 25/02/2026 17:21

I know this will come across as annoying, but I don't mean it to:
Wear trousers instead?
It's weird about tights. I don't generally wear synthetic-fabric trousers, jumpers, shirts etc, but have spent years wearing what is essentially plastic in tights form. And round the crotch as well! They always make me feel sweaty and smelly.

Dontgetitt · 25/02/2026 17:37

I just wear trousers in winter and in warmer weather - like today - long skirts with no tights. Had to wear a pair the other day. urgh.

imakomododragon · 25/02/2026 19:55

Another one coming on to say wear a slip/ underskirt to stop clinging.

Ilovecheeseyah · 25/02/2026 19:57

Wolfords

booksunderthebed · 25/02/2026 20:06

bettertights

snag fall down on me but bettertights have changed my life. they don't last forever but i get a year or so of machine washing and hand drying. i think i get the 40 denier ones

Ritaskitchen · 25/02/2026 20:35

Marks and Spencer - size up. Underskirt or slip with cling as does applying moisturizer to legs or over thin denier tights.

StarlightLady · 26/02/2026 12:49

In the cooler weather I wear the Autograph 40 Denier Soft Luxe Seamless Opaque Tights. The top is like a tube, no central seam in the top (they are like a tube) and they defy gravity so no saggy crotch. They also have a cotton gusset.

For spring and autumn (bare legs in the summer) I find that John Lewis' own brand Hold Ups (15 denier) do actually hold up (unlike some other brands) and stop in place all day.

Finally, the OP is asking about tights. Those responding saying "trousers" are not being helpful any more than recommending an Italian restaurant when someone is asking about Chinese.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 26/02/2026 13:01

There’s an Amazon brand like snag, cheaper I think. Everwe or similar. Great range of colours.
