Can we talk about how awful tights are?

Just that really - I've recently started working back in an office - so out with the joggers an hoodie and now I "dress" for work LOL.

The tights I've worn are just dreadful.... Often the tights seem to grip onto the fabric of the skirt/dress i'm wearing so it all ends up kind of clinging to my legs...... the crotch area ends up half way down to my knees - the seams end up all over the place and generally they are just not comfy at all!

I've tried buying form M&S and Tesco and a few other places but am yet to find a suitable brand where the tights fit properly aaargh.

I have considered hold ups but just checked out the reviews on M&S online and there are many comments of them falling down..

So MN collective - please tell me if there is a brand of tights out there that are actually comfy - or if you've been able to find a great alternative - I'm all ears.

Are you me? Apart from doing (soggy) gardening, l’ve only worn trousers few times this year. I tend to live in dresses, l love my dresses. And you never have to worry about co-ordinating tops and bottoms as you do with trousers or a skirt.

What do you wear on your feet? I tend to live in trousers in the Winter as I feel whatever I put on my feet with my dresses looks wrong, and even more wrong when I add a coat. All my shoes work with trousers, but look strange with dresses and tights.

I’m probably very unfashionable when it comes to footwear, either court shoes, ballet flats or ankle boots. Never heels. Trainers with dresses sometimes at weekends.

I’m told that as a young (infant school age) girl l use to refuse to wear trousers, once saying “I’m not wearing those”. Somehow it seems to have stuck.

Yes, at first they just had a range of models of different sizes, that seemed a good thing, but then they got increasingly fetishistic and creepy, horrible over sexualised pictures, and the whole men are women if they say they are thing.
I just wanted to buy tights. A photo of a woman in the tights is helpful , that’s it.
Plus the tights themselves were a horrible dead colour in the nude, and strangely baggy at the ankles.

Exactly. They are desperately trying to glorify dangerous levels of obesity. There's nothing empowering or glorious about Type 2 diabetes or dying young from heart disease.

What about celebrating women being choked? That's what put me off.

Charnos do fine cotton tights that are v similar, they are around 50% cotton, I got some from UKtights.

Thanks, I'll give them a try.

The old M&S ones (or was it John Lewis?) were something like 90% cotton 🙁

Really, how nasty! I hadn't seen that!

I love dresses too. I can’t wear ballet flats as I have stupidly wide feet, so they stretch out and look horrible on me. I like them on other women.
I wear dresses with low ish heels if I go out for an evening, and with sandals in the Summer, but I find my frocks look wrong with the flat, sturdy shoes that I wear day to day with trousers.

Snag are an anti woman company

Oh yes that was horrendous. It was mentioned on here. They sell supposedly normal tights, yet have become a website for fetishists.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 28/02/2026 16:59

I love tights! I wear sheer M&S ones and never have any of the problems you’ve listed. Are you buying the right size?

RuthW · 28/02/2026 17:06

Popsy or Snag. Both excellent. Never wear anything else.

Thetigerdrankmywine · 28/02/2026 19:28

Primark.

I'm a tall 12 and all the denier work for me. Small teen dd also wears them. They wash fine and they last and last.

Hairspray on tights stops the static.

I get slips from Amazon.

God yes. Cold, itchy, and they get holes in easily. And the thicker ones make people look bulky. They also increase the risk of thrush.

My daughter brought me some fantastic tights home from Italy. Black but with a nude skin coloured lining so even though thick makes it look like they are very sheer! Genius.
