Seriously who wears these. Yet another collection ruined by the dreaded puff sleeve. Stop

OP posts:
TheChosenTwo · 12/02/2026 21:26

I like a puff sleeve personally. I’m quite narrow at the shoulders but have wider hips and have no boobs so the bigger sleeve sort of balances me out a bit.
Or maybe it’s nothing to do with proportions and I just like the shape!!!
But I agree, I don’t want tight elastic digging in thanks, shorter lining on the inside please rather than cutting corners (and blood circulation).

Threeabreast · 12/02/2026 21:29

Yes. puffy sleeves but I raise you angel sleeves. How to ruin an otherwise decent top.

FourBlackCats · 12/02/2026 21:33

Agree. I am broad shouldered. I do not need ridiculous puffy sleeves.

Nitgel · 12/02/2026 20:16

That sleeve is going to be too hard to iron.

ChiliFiend · 12/02/2026 21:50

I love them - they hide my fat arms and are therefore far more flattering on me than sleeveless (or tight sleeves).

patooties · 12/02/2026 21:53

I wear barrel legs - they look great on me. Puff sleeves are NOT my friend though - they make me look like titty mc tit face.

Bruisername · 12/02/2026 22:04

I like them (although not your example!) as I’m narrow shouldered

Dentalqueen · 12/02/2026 22:13

I don’t really like a puff sleeve that puffs at the shoulder , they don’t flatter me a bit , but I’ve seen women of all shapes look fabulous in them. I do though , adore those sleeves that flare gently from the shoulder and puff massively at the wrist before tapering to a cuff, very biba style.

Screamingabdabz · 12/02/2026 22:28

Oh a-men op. 🙌🏻

Ugh I’m sick of them. I have a matronly bust so most blouses and dresses are just a no no. With puff sleeves I just look like Mrs wardrobe from Beauty and the Beast.

I like a puffy sleeve as it manages my bingo wings.

Me too, I would wear these as my arms are bigger so need the extra space.

I like puffy sleeves. Angel/butterfly /flutter sleeves are awful.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 12/02/2026 22:48

I love puff sleeves. They really balance out my body shape.

stringbean · 12/02/2026 23:02

Loathe puff sleeves - make me look top heavy. Also hate tiers/frills on skirts/dresses, breast pockets on dresses (just why??) and high collars (Wyse does a lot of dresses/tops with these - they are hugely unflattering on me). Very difficult to find anything unadorned with at least one of the above. If not, it will be a horrible cutesy ditsy floral print. I really struggle to find simple dresses.

BeautifulBrackets · 12/02/2026 23:12

I rather like that there's a crazy variety of sleeves. Most I would never wear personally, but I'm happy that they're out there.

Like a PP my problem with puffy sleeves is that they don't play nicely with jumpers or cardigans and it's rare that it's warm enough for me to be confident I won't need an extra layer at some point.

Calliopespa · 12/02/2026 23:12

GOAT26 · 12/02/2026 20:49

I think that's the problem, unless you are waiflike there is the danger of looking like a milkmaid.

Much to be said for the milkmaid look though!

RosesAndHellebores · 12/02/2026 23:15

I think they are feminine and pretty. However they accentuate my wide shoulders and on me look bloody awful.

Plasticdreams · 12/02/2026 23:26

I’m slim with a broad back and shoulders, I look absolutely dreadful in puff sleeves. I always quite liked them but recently realised they are seriously unflattering on me.

If you’re petite with slopey shoulders then they can look very pretty imo.

Queenoftartts · 12/02/2026 23:32

They remind me of the sleeves that used to be on some wedding and bridesmaids dresses.

While we're on the subject of sleaves I hate jumper's and cardigans with no cuffs just baggy and hanging down. I have a jumper and a cardigan with sleeves like these. I absolutely love them apart from the sleeves. Just to add they didn't look that huge on the hanger's.

Caniweartheseones · 12/02/2026 23:40

I have two weddings to go to this year but everything is un-buyable it’s so ugly and mostly frumpy (hello
puffed sleeves!) or cross-dressing raver circa 1990s.

Caniweartheseones · 12/02/2026 23:43

Oh. AND the awful materials. With mostly really fake material (that uses a lot of chemicals or plastic) and costs a lot anyway. Might start seeing clothes. I embroider anyway. Or travel somewhere where this is not normal and real fabrics are and just get all my things made there. Good excuse to go to India or Sri Lanka.

patooties · 12/02/2026 23:48

I had a wedding to go to a few years ago - I’m quite tall and reasonably slim but have big tits. I looked like a Victorian milkmaid in every single thing I tried on. Even did the whole ‘personal shopper’ experience- they agreed.

awful. Just awful. You go from coast / Karen Millen to stuff my 80 year old mum would wear. Nothing in between.

ChangePrivacyQuestion · 12/02/2026 23:59

I like the small ones, because I'm a rectangle and it gives me some respite from looking like a pillar.

I would like to nominate piecrust shirts for the bin though, they make anyone look like a cupcake.

Silvermoon8 · 13/02/2026 00:01

I love a puff sleeve and think they can work on lots of body shapes :/ I’m a very flat chested and narrow thin figure and find they add a bit of drama to my very plain shape!

CharlotteCChapel · 13/02/2026 01:31

Once you are old enough to have wobbly bits on your arms they're a godsend

YesItsMe44 · 13/02/2026 02:22

SapphireSeptember · 12/02/2026 20:26

I bought two dresses last year that would not have looked out of place in the 1830s ! 😆 Got them from F&F, a pink one and a black one, they're lovely silky feeling cotton, which makes a change from all the polyester. But the sleeves are ridiculous.

Don't know if you sew, but because there's extra material altering the dresses quite possible. I've done it to a few over the years mainly because I'm broad shouldered and big busted. If I didn't I'd looking like a running back (Anerican football).
