Seriously who wears these. Yet another collection ruined by the dreaded puff sleeve. Stop

I don’t think shops should stop selling them because they don’t suit me personally, but I do wish the fashion would pass so there weren’t quite so many tops and dresses ruined (for me) by big puffy sleeves.

Surely one can have an opinion on ‘style and beauty’?

But it's simply not true that you can't find non puffy sleeves.

Nitgel · 19/02/2026 14:09

They do suit me as I had some from Jigsaw that were lovely ! Anyway I must remember to not start a thread with any opinion on fashion. ;) and ridiculous sleeves

I love how the general take is “I look large in puff sleeves so shops shouldn’t sell them”.

It’s not that they shouldn’t sell them. No one has said that. But they have been pretty universal along with the cropped top, high necked and boxy look over the last few years.

If you’re allowed to like them people who they don’t suit are allowed to say so.

Actually many, many posters have said they shouldn’t be sold because they don’t like them or don’t suit them.

Right now we have more choice than ever, you can buy pretty much whatever you want. The idea that all tops are puff sleeves or boxy is just nonsense.

Floisme · 19/02/2026 14:33

'No-one has said that'
Seriously? The op is literally named, 'Please no more puff sleeves'.

I have more sympathy with not liking the oversized silhouette because that has been pretty dominant for the last few years. But as people are pointing out, there are lots of varieties of sleeve around, although obviously variety means there will be some we don't like.

Of course you can buy a non-puffy sleeve, as well as non-boxy outfits or v- necks. But if a large proportion of clothes have these features it limits choice. So you can only choose from a very limited selection of fashionable outfits.

It’s like if you’re short and 50% of dresses are maxi, you might feel like your choice is limited as those left might not be in the right fabric, colour etc.

Anyway if you love a puff sleeve you’ve had your own way for years. Sometimes people want a bit of solidarity, not people telling them they shouldn’t feel what they feel.

It’s the general fussiness of dresses in recent years that I deplore. I’m not Amish but like a dress that’s plain and simple with no embellishments: once you’ve ruled out dress styles that don’t suit you regardless, you’d be surprised how hard they are to find.

NeverTeaTea · 19/02/2026 18:02

There is a wider issue here for me - it’s just not true you can buy ‘pretty much whatever you want’.

I have found it REALLY hard to find shapes of topd that I like for several years. Puffy sleeves, padded shoulders, embellishments like bows/scarf ties/buttons seem to be really prevalent. Simple, fitted styles with classic sleeve shapes are not in vogue.

Same with dresses. I’m 5’11 and most midi dresses are mid calf or longer on me. So much (usually nasty) fabric. So many things shapeless and unflattering.Everything just huge and long and drab.

If you can’t moan about it on style & beauty… 😞

Hate them so much and they just won't go away

In a moment of madness I bought a Nobody’s child puffy sleeve, smocked, ankle length, full skirted dress in a crisp black cotton.

Never worn it. Its only use might be if I am ever cast in a play as a Victorian lady’s maid! Just needs a white pinny to complete the look.

Not sure even someone in Vinted would want it.

I think I have this dress and I love it :)

You’ll have to tell me how you style it. I need tips!

likelysuspect · 19/02/2026 23:22

At the start of this thread I waxed lyrical about puffed sleeves as I do have some puff sleeved shirts (rather than 'pretty blouses') and they're lovely on me, or 'flattering' as I would say

I take it all back having received an order of a top in Sainsburys, looks lovely online, its horrific. I have a small frame and thought it would look as good as my shirts, its horrendous.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 20/02/2026 06:02

I like a puff.
It tends to balance me out.
What I dislike are sleeveless clothes and cap sleeves. I really can’t see the point of cap sleeves as they tend to not fully cover my armpits and annoy me. I have good shoulders so it’s not a flattering look on me to cover my shoulders whilst leaving my arms bare and irritating my underarm.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 20/02/2026 06:08

Yes I have to agree a puffed sleeve is for warmer weather, you can’t easily wear a cardigan or jacket over the top.

IsItWickedNotToCare · 20/02/2026 06:25

I'm wide enough without puffy sleeves emphasising my big bust

muddyford · 20/02/2026 06:32

Cap sleeves are worse. I have never seen anyone, however slim and toned, look anything other than ridiculous wearing them, in my opinion.
