Seriously who wears these. Yet another collection ruined by the dreaded puff sleeve. Stop

Anne Shirley would strongly disagree with you

I was just about to say that!!! 😂

HostaCentral · 13/02/2026 09:22

Oohh, I love a puff sleeve, and a V Neck, and elastic in sleeves, and floaty blouses with voluminous sleeves. Deffo milkmaid look with my big tits.

I also like skinny jeans. Detest barrel legs (seriously they look good on noone), why do designers insist on making unflattering looks for women?

I am MN style pariah 😂

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 13/02/2026 09:26

Ah but @CharlotteCChapel- as someone with a bit of upper arm wobble, I also feel the cold - I can’t sling a cardie or jacket over the top of a puff sleeve, so it becomes a “holiday evening” dress. Or something to wear during the day on an unusually hot uk day, that invariably turns cold in the evening and you have to change. That’s not a dress for a uk summer holiday, you need to be able to slip a summer jacket over the top when sat drinking in a pub garden.

Hmm, I checked their dresses and this is only one of 23 choices. Certainly if you don't like puffed sleeves you can find something else.

I wasn't crazy about the huge collars a few seasons ago, but just chose not to buy one.

This. If there were no choice then you (op and others) would have a point and my sympathies, but there is.
Likewise barrel legs.

Don't know if you sew, but because there's extra material altering the dresses quite possible. I've done it to a few over the years mainly because I'm broad shouldered and big busted. If I didn't I'd looking like a running back (Anerican football).

I sew not, neither do I toil or spin, but I quite like looking like someone out of the 19th century. 😁 Someone mentioned Anne Shirley, so that works too. 😁

Can dropped waists go into the pit too please.

Hodgemollar · 13/02/2026 16:15

I love a puff sleeve so can’t agree with your take.

ChillWith · 13/02/2026 17:14

Puffed sleeves and tiered skirts/dresses 🤮

RetainersinSpainnotontheplane · 12/02/2026 21:22

I do not suit puff sleeves at all. I tried on a really nice (on the hanger) Nobody’s Child dress recently and was immediately humbled in the changing room because I looked like Anne sodding Boleyn.

I lol’d at the Anne Boleyn comment. Sorry!

SingtotheCat · 14/02/2026 13:15

letshavetea · 12/02/2026 21:21

I dislike puffed sleeves and can we add no tiers to dresses as well?!?

Hell, yes.
Tiers are an embellishment too far. They ruin the nice line of a dress or skirt. You have the pattern, the colour, perhaps a belt or a tie at the waist and someone wants to throw in a dreadful frilly fucking ruffle at the bottom too?
Tiers can get in the bin.

stringbean · 14/02/2026 13:21

Tiers are also a cheap way of adding length to a dress or skirt, rather than using a single length of material. As well as being ugly and twee, they’re also a con.

Tryagain26 · 14/02/2026 13:30

I agree i have seen so many really nice tops ruined because they have puffy sleeves. I think they look ridiculous and not at all flattering

Denim4ever · 14/02/2026 23:06

I'm tall and have long limbs. I don't bother with blouses generally. If a sleeve is offering up some shape its odds on the styling will be in the wrong place on me.

When you tell people you have long arms they think it just means long sleeves look like the equivalent of ankle skimmers. If I'm lucky, this is true, but short sleeves and 3/4 sleeves are often worse. The latter can be elbow stranglers.

I tried on a top in Jigsaw in the sale. The medium size with frilly velvet 3/4 sleeve didn't strangle my elbow but still had a puffy sleeve identity crisis on me 🤣

Noominia · 15/02/2026 01:07

While we’re on the subject, can we talk about peplums? They suit literally nobody and there are far too many of them around at the moment.

CharlesPetrescu · 17/02/2026 08:44

Yes! Not a good look if you have broad shoulders like me. Also as previous posters have mentioned it's more difficult to find cardigans that fit over them when it's cold.

ACommonTreasuryForAll · 17/02/2026 08:47

I love a moderate puff sleeve. Like a hint of puff.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 17/02/2026 08:47

They can be ok in summer, but are awful in winter under a coat. I do feel over them though. Give me a nice straight sleeve. I've even managed to buy some garments recently where the long fitted sleeves actually go to the end of my wrist in winter, imagine that.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 17/02/2026 08:49

ChipsandCheesewithGravy · 13/02/2026 15:46

Too high waists, for me.

bananafake · 17/02/2026 08:49

Lararoft · 12/02/2026 20:47

I dislike puff sleeves as I have big boobs and those sleeves do accentuate them.

This is me. Fashion is a nightmare at the moment with high neck tops and sweaters, cropped tops and the dreaded puff sleeve. I also have broad shoulders and look like a rugby player in a dress with them. It looks lovely on delicate women with small boobs but we don’t all look like models!

Seeingadistance · 17/02/2026 09:03

I can still remember seeing a young woman when I was on holiday last year who was wearing a voluminous tiered mini dress with massive puffed sleeves. It was the most unflattering garment I’ve ever seen. It was actually wider than it was long.

Some people don’t dress for the male view of a women’s body. Dressing can be be fun when you aren’t obsessing over an arbitrary version of “flattering”.

CookingFatCat · 17/02/2026 11:31

They were ridiculous back in the day too!

Please no more puffed sleeves
mcmuffin22 · 17/02/2026 12:24

Plasticdreams · 12/02/2026 23:26

I’m slim with a broad back and shoulders, I look absolutely dreadful in puff sleeves. I always quite liked them but recently realised they are seriously unflattering on me.

If you’re petite with slopey shoulders then they can look very pretty imo.

I am with you. I have quite square shoulders and puff sleeves look awful - like an American football player.

I wish I’d worked this out sooner! I’ve bought so many puffed sleeved tops over the years.

RainySundayAfternoon · 17/02/2026 12:47

Yes, it’s time for them to get in the bin. Or at least have enough options that are not puffy!
