Brands you think of as tacky

Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

People who wear dry robes but don't go open water swimming.

Hahaha YES!

Juicy Couture definitely and now Whitefox even though the matching sets do look really comfy 🙈

WTF? is white fox about? I only see Mum's on supermarket runs/school pick wearing it.
Also any brand that Boots use for Christmas Gift sets FCUK, Jack Wills etc...

Hahaha YES!

Hey!! @Dragonflytamer I dont understand the dry robe hate. I got one before the it got popular and it is good for dog walking and school runs. It's just so comfy and waterproof and has big pockets.

CovenOfCheeses · 14/02/2026 19:07

Trapstar, Hoodrich, Pimp, GTTOBTCH, Juicy Couture seem quite classy to me.

CovenOfCheeses · 14/02/2026 19:09

I wish I had the nerve to walk to school in my PJs with Uggs and rollers. Pure class

Whistl3r · 14/02/2026 19:12

I just think it’s weird how much people hate on Dryrobes. I didn’t realise staying dry and warm was somehow location-restricted.
No one says anything about people wearing Barbour jackets or Schoffel gilets in the city, nowhere near the countryside. And no one questions people carrying LV bags on the bus or train. I’d rather wear something practical than something aspirational that doesn’t reflect my real lifestyle or budget.

SebastianFlytesTrousers · 14/02/2026 19:19

Pandora jewellery. Utter trash. Gluey Vuitton (this is what we call LV fakes in our house), those Represent and White Fox hoodies, anyone who goes to 'filler bars', leggings with the pleating that goes right up the crack of anyone's bottom. I'm sure there's loads more.

Amiacoolorwarmcolour · 14/02/2026 19:24

I think big logos are more likely to look tacky. Sportswear brands when not worn for doing sports. Totally fine on the school run before/after a session at the gym. Tacky if worn for a day out or night out in town. Even more tacky when worn by someone who looks as though the mere thought of exercising would kill them.

PennyBP2 · 14/02/2026 19:26

Louis Vuitton handbags and luggage, to me just scream of wannabees. TBH these are the only things that I shudder at holding. As for dry robes, living in the country they are brilliant for a wet/windy/cold walk with the dogs (who gives what anyone else thinks).

All this talk of what is tacky is also a big bug for me (OK, I went with LV luggage) but if someone feels good in it let them be. Who cares about a brand name, sometimes it can make someone feel good and that's all that matters surely? I'm a 63 year old M&S shopper but love to treat myself sometimes to a branded item of clothing, usually better made and will last longer than some F&F clothing but that's not to say that I don't wear a lot of F&F clothing.

Let's stop with the judgement and do what makes us happy (experience has taught me this)

It's not hate. I have one for surfing. But can still think it is tacky wearing them everywhere - maybe it is because in the circles I move in people tend to use them to drive home in their knickers after taking off their wetsuits.

They are certainly polarising. I have never had so many likes/responses to a post before!

MumToad · 14/02/2026 19:42

Ted Baker and especially the girl's dresses. They look nothing but pretentious on a little girl. Also ... and I am shaking my head in disbelief thinking about wearing a piece ... Pandora's Jewellery. It's tasteless, overpriced tat. And then there's Hotters ... probably because we will all own eventually a pair of them and know that the blue-rinse is just around the corner

Unreliablenightmare · 14/02/2026 19:44

Charlotte Tilbury. It's make up for people who drink caramel lattes.

This is hilarious, i use charlotte tilbury and drink caramel lattes!

No, Superdry started in Cheltenham.

I knew the founders.

Hotter tourist sandals are ok and they used to a narrow version which was useful

gotta agree with the poster who said it depends on age.. but basically any "brand" that you can buy a fake from Thailand or Turkey or on a beach is a tacky brand . for example a rolex omega tag heuer watches are tacky because new money chavs footballers, wags buy name brands people with breeding and class don't buy labels they buy bespoke quality

This is peak MN... Do you hang around with people with "breeding and class"? Hermes comes to mind is that just for "chavs"?

GTZ · 14/02/2026 20:17

As someone who owns a Tiffany necklace (albeit one that is 20+ years old), a Victoria Beckham t-shirt (in the exact shade of green I was looking for), a Stanley cup and two Superdry jackets, I don't feel qualified to comment!

I don't own any Pandora, so I suppose that's something.

BRB off to buy matching Dry Robes for me and the dog.

Stuckoncrossroads · 14/02/2026 20:24

@Kerry242 good point .. It made sense .. then I thought of some v successful social media& only-fans stars,’WAGS’ ..etc..… not necessarily faking a life style, but displaying it loudly& distastefully … super tacky …to me it’s the showing off and general lack of good taste..

SauvyBplz · 14/02/2026 21:01

This is cracking me up - who knew we had 100’s of fashionistas on mums net 😂 literally sat here DYING to see all of your outfits haha I can just picture you all 😂 The bottom line is, it doesn’t actually matter does it, we can’t all like the same stuff. One man’s trash another man’s treasure and all that jazz. Wear what you fucking like and don’t let anyone make you feel bad for it 🫶🏽

I don’t think anyone is really bothered about the translation tbh, it’s pretty irrelevant.

Japanese clothing lines have long used crazy English wording on their clothes, which makes no sense to us. It's part of their culture. I always assumed that Superdry were doing the same the other way round in homage to this.

Dogladycrazy · 14/02/2026 22:24

Off on a tangent here and not a brand but in advertising I can’t stand it when someone with hideous long plastic nails tippety taps them on the item they’re advertising for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I won’t buy on principal! Also make up ads when they put their flat hands under their chins and look to the side.

Crudd99 · 13/02/2026 19:56

It's for people who like to look really shiny.

I thought it was for younger teens who go for the sparkle look because they are really still little girls but feel like they need to be doing more grown up stuff. For that I think its ok. (Provided they ARE teens, not children)

From someone who designed mskeup. I completely disagree. I love charlotte tilbury's makeup the quality is amazing her makeup understands more mature skin....and I hate caramel lattes.

It's mostly the branding I find questionable. If you find the Oh My Darlings! Pouty Kitten Vampy Luscious Lash Lick! or whatever actually works for you, crack on.

TheBeautifulMoors · 14/02/2026 23:47

My loving DH has just bought me the perfectly-sized Michael Kors tote bag for work. It’s a bit blingy (as it’s got the logo on quite a bit ) for me but I know he chose it with love so I intend to wear it with pride from Monday morning. Stuff whatever anyone else thinks.
He also bought me a Tommy H watch. It’s a bit too fancy for everyday wear but will
come out with us when we go out out.
I feel rather spoiled.
Two out of the most mentioned brand so far.

oh just remembered that last Christmas he bought me an amazing maxi coat that gets complimented a lot.

And again a pandora present a couple of years ago.

All the above were surprises but I’ll tell him he might need to buy me a Coach or Gucci bag for my birthday, which is soon 😜😉
