Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Great dog walking coat though!

I might get one just for this purpose. We are near the sea though 😆

keffie12 · 14/02/2026 09:53

Burberry
Shouty tops
High street clothes shops (I go for independents with and individuality) though I admit it is very much a preference taste so it maybe just not my thing rather than tacky
Michael Kors
Bobby Brown
Pandora
Boohoo
Pretty little Thing
Fred Perry

I'm sure there is more

Exactly...if I see anyone with a Gucci bag I automatically assume it's a fake 🤣

If you hang around the arrivals area at certain airports when low cost flights arrive from certain destinations, it's like Gucci and Louis Vuitton both threw up all over the aircraft cabin.

River Island has gone bust for good reason, and dare I say it but I find Primark tacky. Any brand which sells those horrible tight leggings so girls can show the shape of their bits and pieces is also tacky.

Er, River Island has never gone bust.

Hellohello48 · 14/02/2026 10:49

I dislike anything with visible branding. That's what I think of as tacky. Some brands are more known for this than others I guess. Balenciaga has become one of these

ChrisMartinsKisskam · 14/02/2026 11:05

I have most of these so called “tacky brands”

mulberry bags mainly used for funerals & wedding

super dry coats lovey and warm in the winter

Stanley mugs get my liquid count in each day

juicy lounge wear lovely and comfortable to chill out in at home

couldn’t care less if people think it’s tacky or not

StarlightLady · 14/02/2026 11:13

I had a top with Virgin branding, but l was threatened for dishonest practices 😆.

HelloandThankU · 14/02/2026 11:47

@Myli1 I didn’t say it’s a Japanese brand — I said they put the Japanese slogan kyokudo kansō (shinasai) on a lot of their clothes, and it looks tacky to anyone who understands what it says.

MyPantsAreMissing · 14/02/2026 11:59

Pandora

PeppyAmberHedgehog · 14/02/2026 12:26

DuchessofStaffordshire · 12/02/2026 16:22

So has my parka

Except with a parka your legs get wet.

Pandora is Lizzy Dukes under a different name isnt it?
Cheap nasty beads on a rope 😉

Pandora is not cheap!

I’ve only just got my first bracelet with a couple of charms, I’ll need to save for more charms. My DDs are the same.

Stuckoncrossroads · 14/02/2026 14:33

I find louboutins black ’killer’ red heels really tacky.
Guess, Michael Kors, Moschino etc etc..
Louis Vuitton..

Any loud display of designer logos. (Costs a lot of money to look this cheap ..).

Gymwear with scrunch bum of any brand ! Ffs

"Trashy" > anything made out of synthetics or synthetic blends (non-recyclable) when there is not a structural or performance reason for that choice. (E.g., heat-retaining ski pants made of polyester/nylon may be justifiable, an acrylic "fashion" sweater is not).

"Tacky" > subjective, but I'd start with Victoria's Secret and anything else associated with Les Wexner (and Esteé Lauder, if we're extending this to cosmetics/fragrance).

Delighted to realise my ex falls within your second definition as a member of his family works for wexner 😂

Kerry242 · 14/02/2026 15:15

I think tackiness comes from the purpose of a purchase. If it was to 'fit a lifestyle' - not tacky but if it's to 'fake a lifestyle' - then it comes across tacky.

People recognise the people who want to 'fake a lifestyle'.

Highlighta · 14/02/2026 15:37

I don't think wearing something is what makes someone tacky.

It's behaviour that does imo.

People being loud, in your face, swearing when out in public (do what you like at home) - tacky
Fake everything like overly filled lips, those huge eyelashes, really dark drawn on brows - tacky
Not picking up your feet when you walk, shoes making that dragging sound on the floor - tacky
Snorting in public - tacky

You can have the nicest quiet luxury clothing, bag or accessories, but if you behave like a lout wearing them - instantly tacky.

I don’t think anyone is really bothered about the translation tbh, it’s pretty irrelevant.

Ponoka7 · 14/02/2026 18:10

I don't see how Next is tacky. I like the odd item, but then they've copied Hobbs etc and it isn't my style. They do lots of styles of jackets/jeans/cardigans, that wouldn't look out of place in a high end shop (except for the fabric). My local TKMaxx has Boden and the White Stuff, you have to be a xs or small. I find it strange that posters are ok with photos being taken of mostly middle aged + women and putting them on the Internet for people to ridicule, because of what they are wearing. But I but kurt geiger because I like the colours the bags come in and the Eagle.
We've done rollers, in Liverpool for decades. Back in the 60's, so did everyone. Today's women have just lost the head scarf. You want the volume that rollers give, for your night out, as you get on with your day. If it rains, it doesn't matter. Why wouldn't you have a suitcase on wheels?

I don't wear brands full stop. Such a waste of money and very unethical if you actually look at where their stuff is made. I think a lot of people wear brands to prove a point and I have nothing to prove.

KimHwn · 12/02/2026 12:31

I know this is going to sound snippy but I do really mean it- I think judging people for what they wear is tacky. I think everyone has preferences, but to sit in a circle and discuss what is tacky- I just don't think it's a classy thing to do. I think you have to examine what it is you mean by tacky, and whether it's something to do with social class, income, or something else. Good-hearted people just don't look at someone's clothes and make judgements about them. It just isn't done.

I judge everyone who wears crocs and pajamas to the supermarket.

Brands that are semi sporty but not really sportswear eg. White Fox. Also it has such a bad logo. It looks like something from the market in the 90s. NaffCo 54😁

Haha... Naff co. I had Naff Naff, Benetton, Oilily growing up and my friend begged her dad to buy her a Naff Naff coat, she was so happy when he said he got her one....her face dropped when she seen it said Naff.Co. Although to be honest it was better than mine it had extra pockets inside which I loved. We used to swap.

PebbleBeAPenguin · 14/02/2026 18:43

gotta agree with the poster who said it depends on age.. but basically any "brand" that you can buy a fake from Thailand or Turkey or on a beach is a tacky brand . for example a rolex omega tag heuer watches are tacky because new money chavs footballers, wags buy name brands people with breeding and class don't buy labels they buy bespoke quality

On a side note, I know someone who was left a Rolex in a Will. She tried to sell it at a Rolex stockist and was told it was fake. 😙
