Brands you think of as tacky

Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Stuff from Oh Polly, Pretty Little Thing and the like.

Tortephant · 12/02/2026 10:27

Tommy Hilfiger, Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, and many more.

Charlotte Tilbury. It's make up for people who drink caramel lattes.

Got to agree with the first comment, also not a fan of Charlotte tilbury, I am partial to Louis Vuitton though! 😄

Superdry. Their Japanese slogan, Kyokudo kansō (shinasai)極度乾燥(しなさい), on their products is grammatically awkward and unnatural. A native Japanese speaker wouldn’t use a phrase like this as a slogan. It sounds like a bunch of random words strung together rather than a coherent expression.

Juicy Couture definitely and now Whitefox even though the matching sets do look really comfy 🙈

Thecows · 12/02/2026 10:54

Depends on your age surely ?

Dragonflytamer · 12/02/2026 11:02

People who wear dry robes but don't go open water swimming.

TheAutumnCrow · 12/02/2026 11:03

Burberry
Victoria Beckham

ForRealViper · 12/02/2026 11:05

Personally, I find brands which are pretending to be fancier than they really are to be much more tacky than honest cheapo brands.

When I see £40 Pandora trinkets set up in their fancy pink window displays, tricking people into thinking they're walking into a high-end jewellery store - yuck. It's not just tacky, it's exploitative.

This!!! We call them dry robe wallies. Especially as we live in the middle of the country, nowhere near the sea, and lakes are hard to come by too!

Most ‘brands’ can come across tacky, I definitely class Guess and DKNY as this. Just because something is expensive doesn’t mean it’s not tacky. Also partial to adanola myself but agree it is a bit tacky 🥴 especially the massive slogan jumpers. Talking of jumpers…Blakey (?) seems to be extremely popular around here with a huge logo on, as well as white fox both I cringe at.

ItWasCalledYellow · 12/02/2026 11:25

Louis Vuitton is the first thing that I thought of, and Golden Goose trainers!

Vinvertebrate · 12/02/2026 11:26

@QuickPeachPoet and @Dragonflytamer you should check out “Dry Robe Wankers” on FB to see them secretly photographed in the wild.

For me it’s Michael Kors, White Fox, Moschino, Burberry and - weird because it’s insanely expensive - Canada Goose.

Plus anything that regularly ends up in TK Maxx.

MarianofSherwood · 12/02/2026 11:28

I think your group is quite snobby

Probably because Superdry is from Cheltenham! Can’t be much worse than the Engrish you see on Japanese clothes though

I have one, I do use it for paddle boarding and swimming but it's so warm and dry that is been creeping into my day to day wear. I had to laugh as my friend has been mercilessly mocking me for being a dry robe w*nker but when we were in Cornwall I took the older kids body boarding and she ended up putting it on while she was playing on the beach with the younger ones. Anyway I basically had to surgically remove it from her at the end of the week and she's since bought one for walking her dog 😂

LostThestral · 12/02/2026 11:36

Juicy Couture
Burberry
Lacoste

Are people tricked, though? Everyone knows it’s just affordable trinkets. It’s nice to feel a bit special for half an hour. Nobody in there will be going to Tiffany or Asprey.
