Lighthearted! Was chatting to some ladies at a group I attend and they were talking about fashion brands that is seen is tacky and trashy, superdry, Tommy Hilfiger, juicy couture, Adanola etc. do you agree with this? FWIW I do wear hilfiger jeans the odd time but seem to live in adanola as I find it nice fitting for my shape and very comfortable and never thought the brands as tacky per se but now I’m a bit paranoid, not that I care too much but nobody wants to appear tacky let’s be honest

Ralph Lauren

Especially the polo shirts with the super sized logo

Brands you think of as tacky
nomas · 12/02/2026 12:41

Juicy Couture, especially with Juicy emblazoned across the arse cheeks.

mcmuffin22 · 12/02/2026 12:41

Brands that are semi sporty but not really sportswear eg. White Fox. Also it has such a bad logo. It looks like something from the market in the 90s. NaffCo 54😁

Gettingbysomehow · 12/02/2026 12:42

On the upper end Louis Vuitton I don't like any of the designs and they all been done to death.
On the lower end Matalan - they used to have some nice things but last time I went in there they were really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

This!!! We call them dry robe wallies. Especially as we live in the middle of the country, nowhere near the sea, and lakes are hard to come by too!

Not too sure why these are for open water swimming only. I know a lot of people who wear them because they work outside in all weathers

Throwntothewolves · 12/02/2026 12:44

Strangerthanfictions · 12/02/2026 11:54

But why do you care if people find them warm and comfortable and use them for non swimming purposes??? I am genuinely curious why are people so bothered that other people like to wear them in a way that suits them? I don't own one but they look brilliant for watching the kids football, I'm too scared I get judged for wearing it in the wrong place or is it ok to wear it to the football if I also use it for swimming? Or strictly no other purposes allowed?

It's just snobbery. I know plenty of people who own them. The vast majority use then when dog walking or watching kids football in all weather. Also, why can't a Dry Robe coat be multipurpose?
I'm sure Dry Robe don't care so why should anyone else?

Don’t be scared you’ll be judged! Firstly other people’s opinion of you isnt your business anyway and secondly, if a person judges another one for keeping dry in the rain, they’re the issue. Don’t let other people judging you about something so ridiculous stop you from being dry and warm.

FWIW I don’t own one, but might get one now purely because I don’t like being told what people should and shouldn’t do 😂

I have one, I do use it for paddle boarding and swimming but it's so warm and dry that is been creeping into my day to day wear. I had to laugh as my friend has been mercilessly mocking me for being a dry robe w*nker but when we were in Cornwall I took the older kids body boarding and she ended up putting it on while she was playing on the beach with the younger ones. Anyway I basically had to surgically remove it from her at the end of the week and she's since bought one for walking her dog 😂

Edited

With you...I don't swim or paddleboard but have used it on the beach and it's AMAZING for standing on the side lines at my son's rugby, keeps me warm and dry so therefore happy to be a 'Dry Robe Wanker' 😊

Pineappleice43 · 12/02/2026 12:46

Pretty little things, Juicy Couture. Anything with the brand all across it in your face and all the people who look the same wearing unbreathable gym leggings as everyday wear, short puffer jackets and beige beanies!

ThatAquaRobin · 12/02/2026 12:46

Mulberry- Now tacky AF and selling in TK Maxx. Those cross body satchels are ubiquitous.

Agree Burberry, Canada Goose and Pandora tacky too

But I love super dry especially their cotton jumpers. Also I love love love my dry robe and embrace my wankerage when wearing it in the rain to watch my kids do sport. I'm toasty and dry 😃

It’s not really lighthearted is it though? Brass tacks, you want to (and encourage others to) sneer at other people’s brand choices.

Not having a good day op?

PauliesWalnuts · 12/02/2026 12:47

BonBonDong · 12/02/2026 12:34

Years since my hillwalking days, but North Face back in the day was highly regarded.

Same here. I trekked in the Himalayas many years ago in NF. But the quality of NF, (and Karrimor, which was bought by Mike Ashley) has declined so much that it’s really just for fashion these days.

Figcherry · 12/02/2026 12:47

I know this is going to sound snippy but I do really mean it- I think judging people for what they wear is tacky. I think everyone has preferences, but to sit in a circle and discuss what is tacky- I just don't think it's a classy thing to do. I think you have to examine what it is you mean by tacky, and whether it's something to do with social class, income, or something else. Good-hearted people just don't look at someone's clothes and make judgements about them. It just isn't done.

I was just coming here to say this.
Pp’s should concentrate on their own clothes what does it matter who wears what.
I wouldn’t dress like lots of supposedly fashion gurus even if I had the money.

Putting together an outfit for me is about the finished look and if I’m happy, not the brand.

DuchessofStaffordshire · 12/02/2026 12:48

Dry robe and all the derivative knock-offs. Anything with obvious logos on, Louis Vuitton springs to mind. Range Rovers are now extremely tacky and dare I say a bit chavvy. White cars. Stanley cups.

Pineappleice43 · 12/02/2026 12:48

I think Dry Robes look really nice and must be amazing for all these rainy school runs. However there's a family by me where the kids even have them, 7/8/9 year olds which I find a bit funny seeing all four of them in their dry robes 😆

abracadabra1980 · 12/02/2026 12:49

It totally depends on the person wearing it.

TheOneAndOnlyMumster · 12/02/2026 12:50

Dragonflytamer · 12/02/2026 11:02

People who wear dry robes but don't go open water swimming.

Well I have commented on the school run that a dry robe is a good shout since it has rained here for weeks it seems!

gmgnts · 12/02/2026 12:51

What a weird thread - so full of snooty judgements!

canisquaeso · 12/02/2026 12:54

Every brand can have nice and not-so-nice items. Some of the brands named here are a bit weird - does something become tacky once it’s available to the wider public? Hmm……….. 🤨

I find anything with logos plastered tacky, unless it’s your overall vibe and you can pull it off (ie the colourful LV bags and someone with a very pop/kawaii style). My boyfriend is prone to logos and it kills me a little, can’t lie.

febstoptherainplease · 12/02/2026 12:54

The Dry robe hatred is weird - surely they're just a practical way to keep warm or as an extra layer. I think of them in the same way someone would wear wellies or something.

ThatCyanCat · 12/02/2026 12:55

gmgnts · 12/02/2026 12:51

It's a thread about brands people think are tacky; snooty judgement is what that is!

SumUp · 12/02/2026 12:56

Weird thread.

I judge the shallow kind of people who judge the clothing of other women. People can wear what they want.

Gowlett · 12/02/2026 12:56

Tommy Hilfiger would have been posh when I was younger.
Still have some jackets, used to wear the jeans.
Adanola, I’ve never heard of…
Superdry, and similar, I’d just think of as youngster brands.
I think Louis Vuitton & Hermes Birkins are quite tacky…
And the Marc Jacobs Tote Bag. And MK, obviously…

Port1aCastis · 12/02/2026 12:56

I don't want to advertise a brand that's why I don't buy clothes with Blakely written all down the sleeve or juicy couture on the arse, or any other brands with writing on, why pay £xxxx to advertise someone's goods for them.

CapacityBrown · 12/02/2026 12:57

A lot of the stuff people think is tacky is because they are knock-offs that have splashed a brand's logo everywhere.

Those Turkish barbers don't actually use Louis Vuitton covers.
